The new Zel
Very relaxing resort. Not quite fully opened when we were there early January but everyone was working hard. Staff were very friendly. Decor was new and attractive. A la cart restaurants were fine and the buffet was excellent at breakfast and there were some choice selections for lunch and dinner such as lobster, Iberian ham, smoked salmon etc. Food should be kept warmer for safety, but there was always a cook to order section. Some better liquor was only available for extra charge. Rooms were large and newly renovated. Grounds are beautifully taken care of. Pool has a swim up bar. Entertainment is minimal, DJ and a live band every night. There were daytime craft classes as well. It’s best suited for a relaxing holiday. Carts can take you to the private beach area where there was good food at the beach restaurant and bar service at the lounges. Not really enough shade but perhaps they will fix that. Overall a good start.

Good hotel but maybe to small
The rooms are excellent but the size of the hotel may have led to our overall experience. Lack of variety at the buffet in the evening and at times leftovers. Beach area is small but plenty of space. Beach seaweed was not cleaned everyday.

Disappointing and Misleading
We booked this hotel because we thought it was beachfront (as advertised in photos and amenities), but it’s NOT on the beach. Instead, you have to take a shuttle to the beach, and the wait times could be frustrating—sometimes over 20 minutes with no shuttle in sight. The rooms and property itself are undeniably beautiful, but the overall experience left a lot to be desired. The service was hit-or-miss—some staff were friendly, while others were not accommodating. The food was a big disappointment. Everything tasted the same, was served at room temperature, and was left sitting out for hours—even meats and cheeses, which felt unsafe. Drinks were inconsistent and mostly bad, except for one excellent bartender at the Tacorini restaurant. Unfortunately, the main bar didn’t meet expectations at all. Another frustrating aspect was the pressure to buy a membership to Melia. When we declined, they became visibly frustrated and pushy. It made the experience uncomfortable and left a bad impression. I did enjoy a paddle yoga session, which was a nice touch. However, the spa experience fell flat. I got a massage, and while the therapist was kind, it felt like he had absolutely no training—it was more like being lightly petted for an hour. Overall, while the resort has beautiful grounds and some enjoyable activities, the food and misleading beachfront claim make it hard to recommend.
