A yearly family holiday
We have been Viva members since 2003 and have gone to the Viva Azteca at least 20 times including 2025. We love the people, excellent food, small intimate outdoor courtyard and long beautiful beach. Sister resort the Maya is close with a shopping centre across from it. Playacar area safe for walking and biking. We have brought our family and friends to enjoy. Many perks with membership. The staff are amazing and our friends.

From the maids to the servers to hosts and bartenders, every single employee goes above and beyond to make sure you are happy. The beach access is beautiful with excellent cabanas. All in all an amazing place to spend a vacation.

Vacation in Azteca Jungle
Very beautiful boutique resort suronded by lushly plants. It feels like you are in the Azteca jungle. Delicious food. There are no reservations for restaurants in Azteca. It is very easy to make reservations for the restaurants in the sister resort Viva Maya by using the Viva app. Resort is very clean with very nice people working there. The beach is amazing and looks very tropical with many palm trees for extra shade . The Playacar community is beautiful, with many nice places to explore. We felt very safe and explored walking around Playacar, Playa del Carmen, the beach from Punta Esmeralda to Playa Amore. We had a great time and can highly recommend Viva Azteca.

Relaxing, Enjoyable and Beautiful Week Stay
We stayed for a week and enjoyed every single relaxing moment. Very accessible for everyone. Super clean. We honestly can't name one single person that made a difference as they ALL are a team and work together. From the servers at the buffet, the animation team, the pool bar crew, the staff who clean, and the gardeners. Everyone we encountered during our stay was amazingly friendly and helpful. This review is an overview of our one week experience. We did not leave the resort so I can't talk about excursions or the shopping experience. From the airport to the resort took about an hour by bus. They do like to encourage the discussion regarding the time share option but we managed to divert from that conversation as we were not interested. ECO FRIENDLY This resort is eco-friendly in most of their practices. DRINKABLE WATER - Bring your own mug, however they do have plastic cups which are not throw aways thank goodness. Cold drinking water is available everywhere including flavoured water. TOWELS - Big thirsty towels available which you can exchange daily. Don't lose them as they will charge at the end of your stay. ROOMS - We stayed in 1132. The room is nothing exciting, basic really. The beds were very comfy. We had two double beds and asked for a king size but they didn't have anything available. No big deal. The air conditioner was super cold but you have the option to turn it down. The bathroom has liquid hand soap and plenty of towels. The shower has shower gel and shampoo. We used both but if you bring your own that would be best. There is a coffee maker and a small fridge with a few non alcoholic drinks. FOOD - The buffet serves breakfast, lunch and dinners. We enjoyed everything. There is always something to eat and it is quite yummy too. One night was a Mexican theme another was an Italian themed evening. The effort put into the food is nothing short of perfection. Don't forget to try the desserts - delicious. The pool bar has a small buffet available with pizza, hamburgers, French fries etc. never a shortage on food. We also had dinner at the restaurant in the trees which was beyond delicious. The ambiance was stunning. No reservation needed at any of the restaurants. To start you receive a delicious mango martini and then pick from the menu. We're not big dinner eaters so the buffet serves enough for us to enjoy keeping our bellies happily full. SMOKING - This resort has two smoking areas and they are not by the pool or beach. You would think it was a non smoking resort as we never smelled smoke anywhere. You can't vape or smoke on the beach or by the pool or the pool bar. Smoking section at the front of the resort and the other is midway through before you get to the pool. MONEY - it is preferred to have Mexican Pesos when tipping or purchasing. We exchanged money before we left Ontario. They will also take American money. There is a bank machine on site as well as a person who will exchange your money. Come prepared, it'll make your life easier. STORE - On site boutique store sells virtually everything. From cigarettes to clothing and jewelry. Forgot beach toys for the kids? They have it!! BEACH - Stunning!! No shortage of lounge chairs EVER! The weather has made a huge ledge to get down to the beach level but people have made sand steps to help with that. Mother nature's issue not the resort. In front of this resort the beach has a lot of coral making it hard to navigate but a few steps to the right down the beach in front of the other Wyndham is super soft and easy to get in. We also went to the right and enjoyed the waters from there. POOL - lovely! We spent more time at the beach but did have a day at the pool. The animation team worked hard at engaging people but never became pushy if you simply said no thank you. There is a foam party afternoon which was so much fun to watch. The animation team embraces children as well as adults making sure everyone feels included. Pool water is warm.
