Great location…though think twice if you want to use the pool area over a weekend…
We spent three nights at the Westin exploring Brisbane. The hotel is well located in walking distance to the river, Southbank, shops and the Botanical Gardens and plenty of restraint options. Staff were friendly, rooms great and the buffet breakfast was good though maybe a little gourmet for my kids with strong Italian influences. The one downside is the hotel allows outside guests to pay for bookings of the cabanas and sun lounges by the pool on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday which means for hotel guests it is near impossible to find somewhere to sit and the pool is full of people standing in the pool drinking cocktails. Now the pool area is not big so I feel that this is really taking away from the hotel amenities that as a guest you would expect to have easy access to. Perhaps this needs to be noted on room bookings particular when weekend nights are generally charged at a premium rate.

Great stay better people
We had an exceptional stay at this property. Location is perfect with easy access to Southbank and CBD, shopping and restaurants. A solid property with all amenities. The real difference were the people especially Taylor at the front desk. From our first meeting arriving with a request for an early check in to every request regarding things to do, restaurants, hotel amenities and even the plans for the future Brisbane Olympics, Taylor was gracious, enthusiastic and welcoming. I can’t say enough about how she and her team enhanced our experience, a great stay and would happily recommend the hotel.

Great hotel
I stayed here for 5 nights out of a 6 week holiday up the east coast. This was probably my favourite hotel on the trip. I flew in early so couldn’t check in yet as it was 8am but they got housekeeping to service the next available room for me which was nice. In the mean time they gave me access to the swimming pool and gave me a couple of water bottles. The room itself was spacious and the bed was really plush and comfy. Bathroom was a nice size too! The view out the window was of a giant building but is to be expected given the location. The new casino is just up the end of the street. The mall and public transport are a short walk away. The buffet breakfast was nice but not overly big and felt like it needs to be in a bigger area, got pretty cosy in there with the amount of people. Reception printed out some documents for me and delivered them to my room. Overall a great hotel and nice friendly staff

Going downhill
I tried to write the hotel directly but was not happy with their response since this was such a high price tag for such a low quality experience. I have stayed here in the past and enjoyed it quite a bit but it just feels like it's going downhill. To start, it's Summer and the room does not have air conditioning. I checked in, lowered the theromstat, went out for the day and came back to a hot stagnant room still. I called the front desk and they excelled in saying no. I asked for a standing fan to be sent up and they said no. I asked for maintenance to look at it and they said they didn't have any maintenance. They said I could wait until tomorrow. You know, like right before I check out. Maintenance came the next morning and had to reset the thermostat and clean out the vents, etc. It was highly inconvenient to have to get an early start and clear out of the room on my holiday just to make way for maintenance so early in the morning. By the time I was leaving on my late check out, the room was getting much cooler. On top of that, when I checked in, they asked what my plans were for the day. I said that we were going to Lone Pine then coming back to enjoy the infinity pool before dinner. They said, "that sounds like a great plan." I did so and was denied from using the pool. It was closed that day due to a private event. They should've told me at check in that it was closed when they ask about my plans. This hotel is baking the amenities into the high price but not able to offer them on top of not being able to offer basic necessities like air conditioning in the middle of Summer. Housekeeping is also a bit reckless. They left a vacuum cleaner out in the hallway with the wire askew causing me to trip over it.

What You Would Expect of a Westin Property
Quick, 1-night stay in a king, partial river view room before a flight out the next day. Centrally located hotel. If you like high-end shopping, this is a good place to stay. I like the Westin brand; I find their properties soothing, and that's what I got. The rooms are spacious, beds comfy, fair amount of storage space, colour scheme calming, etc. The staff were as expected. I ordered of the in-room dining menu, which I always find has a few good picks for meals. The weather was quite bad and, since I was there for only 1 night, I didn't use the facilities. Negatives: The hotel driveway is much too small for drop-offs and pick-ups; I wouldn't bother reserving a partial river view room, as there is construction equipment somewhat obscuring the view.
