Nice Week at the Sunscape Coco

This was our first time at this property. The trip down was good, check in was easy. We were worried about the bad reviews and the many people complaining about sickness. We were there from December 14th to the 21st. We did come prepared in case the rumors were true. We only met one person who's wife was sick, but it seemed to be too much alcohol, not an illness. We had upgraded to the Sun Club adults only when we booked. We did that to get the top shelf liquor and the private pool and beach area. We ate at most of the restaurants and tried most of the different foods and had no ill effects. The food was okay, but nothing was outstanding. The Kaleidoscope buffet had the same food for both lunch and dinner, with very little variety. The pizza shop was a joke. We went there right after they opened at 11 am to find out that the pizza wouldn't be ready for an hour. All they were serving was hamburgers, and the whole thing is very unorganized. It's a mess. The Teppanyaki was by far our favorite restaurant. It was a hit. The pools were clean but dated. The ocean had seaweed, but the sand was cleaned every day. There was seaweed and trash at the resort next door, Jewel Palm Beach, but that resort is closed. We were never bothered by vendors at the beach. The grounds were lovely, and most of the staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was cleaned every day early, with the sheets changed every day. We never stayed up late enough to see a show, but everything we heard about them was positive, especially the beach party. Most of the week was sunny and warm, but if it looks like rain, take your umbrella to dinner. We were soaked several nights. Special shout outs to the bartenders in the Flip Flops Sun Club beach bar, Pedro, Rosa, and Astephanie. We don't remember the name of the hostess at the Kaleidoscope breakfast buffet, but she was very enthusiastic and friendly. She is a ray of sunshine. Our Concierge, Jorge Luis, was a great help with restaurant reservations, and was able to resolve any issues we had. He checked in with us several times a day with suggestions and to see if we needed anything. The only complaints are that the bartenders at the Sun Club Adults Only Bar are very unprofessional and unhelpful. Over all the stay was okay, but we would not return. It is definitely not more than a three star resort.

Pleasant surprise at Sunscape Coco Punta Cana

March 2024 attended a Resort Wedding with friends and booked a Sun Club Junior Suite Oceanfront King Adults Only section. The room was wonderful and our view was fabulous. In short we had no issues at the resort, with our room and with the restaurants. Others in our group about 100, had issues with their rooms and some got sick where they had to miss a day of enjoyment at the resort. The highlight, aside from the Beach Wedding was the nightly entertainment and all the staff. I would and have recommended others to stay at this resort, the only issue we had was at the main buffet, we went once for dinner and were disappointed with the selection of food and found a lot of the food was cold.

    Extremely Disappointing

When I arrived I had to wait 45 minutes for a room to be allocated, and was not offered any help to locate it despite the fact that it was some distance from the main hotel block. When I located the room I discovered that it was already occupied by someone else. I then went back to the reception and was taken to a room at the far end of the resort (Block 16) where the room had been locked by security. We then went back to the Reception and I was shown other room which overlooked a wall and 2 palm tress despite the fact that I had booked a room with a tropical view. I refused this room and was then given a room in Block 3 which I accepted. Although it was in an acceptable position, there was NO hot water for 3 days despite reporting the fact to Reception each day and then I discovered that there was a general problem with the hot water in Block 3. I then insisted that the Concierge allocate me a room in the SunClub at no extra charge, which they did and I was given a smaller room in Block 2 and for the first day the hot water did not work in this room. There were also minor inconveniences such as the coffee machine having a plug which did not fit in the socket, no hairdryer, towels not being replaced, toiletries not be replenished when empty. The room was never cleaned until late in the afternoon despite being available since early morning. The food generally was appalling the Kaleidescope Restaurant was marginally better that Windows, mainly fried food, which was cold, very poor salad selections, and the only fresh fruit was pineapple and melon. The food in the a la carte restaurants was marginally better, however when there was a starter buffet there was an extremely poor selection. Despite the Kaleidescope Restaurant supposedly being Adults only there were children eating there at all times. When I made my booking I was not told about the Sun Club option, however the hotel could see from my reservation that I was a single lady and therefore did not want to be located to a room close to lots of families with small children but despite this they tried to allocate me to a room at the far end of the resort which was inhabited mainly by such families, which was totally unsuitable for me. Also unless you were a member of the Sun Club you had to use the main swimming pool which was always overcrowded. It was only when I moved to Block 2 that I was able to use the two adult pools which were very nice. The nightly entertainment was very disappointing, being extremely amateurish and repetitive. When I arrived and tried to resolve the issue about the room I was constantly being put under pressure to pay for an upgrade which was unacceptable. Another problem is that despite the fact that probably 80% of the guests speak English very few staff can speak or even understand any basic English which make communication extremely difficult. In no way would I rate this as a 4 star hotel.

    Sunscape Coco Punta Cana

I have just come back from Sunscape Coco resort. It was my first solo trip. I was worried about many things. I have travelled with my husband for years and a few times a year. This time my husband could not go, and I thought to work away could never make me bored at the resort. I booked a superior deluxe pool view room but on arrivals in the lobby I was asked if I wanted to upgrade to Sun Club. I read lots of reviews before going to this place, and many of them from people who paid for Sun Club were particularly good. I paid some extra money and was given a pool view room in Adults Only. My room was big, quiet, clean, and pool view. That is all I needed for my trip to balance my work and vacation. I stayed in my room for online meetings, worked from the pool view patio, or used a great spot in lounge specifically prepaid for guests with computer needs. The workstation had a white leather office chair, and an office desk with a computer. I was lucky that no more people worked from the resort, the workstation was always free to use. Before going to Sunscape, I installed a “World of Hayatt” app in my cell phone that I used for booking Ala Cart restaurants, checking each restaurant menu, room service, checking daily activities and night shows. I recommend downloading the app on your phone before arriving to the resort. I always had hot water in the shower, fresh towels, and daily bedding changed in my room. On arrival, my fridge was empty. I told the bell boy who brought my luggage to the room, and I got it stocked twice by him and another person. The “open concept” bathroom didn’t bother me because the washroom and toilet had the doors. The room was nearly renovated, with no smell or mold that I read in others’ reviews. The Sun Club pool and beach bars had international drinks, but no mint for mojito most of the time. People asked about the pool and beach bar service. You get a better smile and drink while tipping at bars or restaurants. It depends on who made you a drink. Once I had a very big and good Aperol Spritz, another time it was made of lots of ice and no prosecco that made lots of difference and was not tasty. The beach was cleaned in the morning but not every day. Sometimes only the Sun Club part of the beach was cleaned but the regular area was covered with lots of garbage laying on the sand. I never had a problem getting a lounge chair at the beach or at the pool. I was told that I can get as many beach towels as I need at the Sun Club beach, but it was not true. Some days I was asked my room number and my name and given one tower. I like going to Ala Cart restaurants while away. My favorite restaurant at this resort was Tierra which I booked three times, however, people needed to wait for a half an hour until they opened the restaurant. The last time I was at Tierra with my friends who didn’t have a reservation, and they had no problem getting a table. Other Ala Carts opened on time, I never waited to get a table at the Italian restaurant, Damario. This is my second favorite Ala Cart. I booked it twice and liked it with two different mains I ordered. The service in both Ala Carts was great. FYI – not all Ala Carts opened every night. About three out of eight opened. The Blue Water had the worst service, but food was good. They brought me not my order, had no glasses for wine and waiting time was the longest. The Kaleidoscope Adults buffet did not have much variety of food, but it was enough to me to find something to eat or wait until they cook meat, fish, or chicken in front of you. The second buffet, Windows, had more food variety but no good service. I ordered sparkling water from two different waiters and got nothing. I asked the third one if I need to say it differently, so they understand my order, and he said that I ordered it correctly and finally brought me some water. Many waiters speak Spanish and too little English. The entertainment was my least favorite thing, but I watched so many of them in different resorts, I was fine to spend time with my new friends or chatting with my husband on the phone after dinner. All in all, I had a great 12 nights trip. I would not have such a good time, meet new friends and make my trip as good without the Sun Club upgrade. If you can pay more money, you need to definitely upgrade. Finally, some people had stomach flee. Is this a seasonal thing, I don't know. I was lucky do not have one.

Explorer’s Club the best, Candy was awesome! Hotel in general not so good, food NOT good. Not your paradise beach dear i

Resort it’s small and quiet, so if you are looking for rest time then it’s perfect. Only one main pool and bars don’t really have many drink options. We struggled with the food since it was not good except the Bluewater Grill that was delicious but buffet doesn’t have anything good, at least for us. The pizza place was good ok for one day but not for everyday unless you are a pizza lover and you don’t mind it everyday. The Explorer’s Club was the best part, my son LOVED Candy, she was great with him and he loved spending time with her playing and talking, she was GREAT. They have a small park next to the club for them and a small water park. We went by the water slides but unfortunately couldn’t stay since the pool surrounded its small and it was packed. Rooms are ok just keep in mind that they are doing some remodeling and some room might smell like paint or not be good like others, we had to request to change rooms at arrival due to the strong smell and then got a good one on a different block. The beach is fine but not the greatest, if you are looking for blue clear waters then this is not the resort, the resort is located on a different side of Punta Cana and beaches on this side are not the best, they do a good job at keeping it clean though but it just don’t feel the same. Overall not bad for a 1-2 days trip but I wouldn’t spend more than that there, they really need to work on the place and specifically the FOOD. Most of the employees were friendly and made feel at home, others didn’t but they do overworked them so we understood why they were that way.
