    Great family vacation

I wanted to write a review because I was very nervous before going to Sunscape Coco after reading some of the reviews. This was a family vacation. When we arrived there was a line for check in but it wasn’t too bad. I have to admit that I was a little concerned about the vacation at first glance when we arrived. The resort is right off the road and doesn’t look great. I upgraded to adults only sunclub immediately for 6 people (wasn’t super expensive). We were all located in building 2. The rooms were huge and very clean with big balconies. As said in other reviews there were no dressers (no drawers) and very few hangers. We didn’t have much much over the week with the cleaning staff (actually cleaning our room) but I got fresh towels when I asked and water when I needed. The pools were great. I am an early riser so we didnt have an issue with chairs but yes, people do put towels. We rented the Bali beds a couple times at the beach and these were amazing with great food and beverage service. There are so many options for food and snacks at all hours and we all really loved the food. The service at the buffets was inconsistent but that isn’t abnormal in my experiences attending all inclusives. We loved the Pizza Shop, Chopsticks and Tiki Taco. We also LOVED the Coco Cafe and the staff there were amazing. There were lines but they worked so hard all day and always with a smile. They serve hot and iced coffee and some baked goods. There was an amazing vibe every day at the main pool and the entertainment at night was fun. The stage is outside in the middle of the resort so it is very loud. We didn’t mind this but I could see how it would bother some. My daughter and I worked out a the gym and it was good. A lot of cardio equipment and some good weights. All in all we had a great experience. For reference this was our 4th time going to Dominican Republic.

Good but wouldn't return (reasons listed)

Checkin- Offered sunclub adults only, initially for $375, and then $250 extra per week. I thought this was a deal until our friends received it for $100USD. The inconsistencies regarding this has left a sour taste in our mouths (and others who paid even more). That being said, we were happy that we did choose sunclub; however, it should be consistently applied EXCEPT for the last day. We checked out at 8am and went for breakfast before our flight and were turned away DESPITE paying for 7 days. Again, a major inconsistency (more on Kaleidoscope later in food.). Room: We were in building two second floor overlooking the adult pool. Thankful we had upgrade as it was very quite, not kids running around and not nearly as packed. Very clean grounds and the pool was beautiful (although one was under repair later in the week). Room was very nice, clean, lots of hot water and pressure and a very kind cleaning lady who restocked us daily :) Food: Kaleidoscope (sunclub) was delicious compared with other resorts, and again much better than the Windows restaurant (without sunclub). We were all very happy with all of the difference choices each night, so kudos to the chefs. ZERO out of our group of 10 had diarrhea (but were mindful of what we ate). The issue, again, is that they clearly allowed in non-sun club members, and some with children. If the resorts says adults only, why do they let in children and why do they not check room cards and names upon entry? This was again, an inconsistency. And to be turned away on our last day for a quick breakfast before our flight was embarrassing, especially since we paid for the seven days. Windows restaurant (no sun club), especially after Kaleidoscope, was much more busy with way more people, less quality food, and children running around. Beach: This isn't Cuba. While the beach was cleaned each day, the water is murky and surrounded by unsightly buoys. In the water there was alot of seaweed. Sand was lovely, and staff did a good clean up. Security (Jensen) tried to do a good job as we were solicited far too many times by seascape employees and we appreciated having Jensen there. I do not know why the resort allows this when we can simply go to the seascape booth to buy an excursion. It gets exhausting having to say no to 4-6 reps doing rounds all day, not to mention the other vendors. The worst part- if you are not there at 6:45am (yes THAT early) good luck finding a spot beside the shade canopy's. In fact it was like that for pool seats too, but since we had sun all week, we didn't do much of the pool activities. Luiz at sun club bar was very good- thank you. An alternative, if you walk 20 minutes left the beach is much much nicer (you will eventually see a broken dock structure out of the water that marks the spot to go). Very nice although no fish to see snorkelling. Pool: Sunclub pool was amazing. Main pool looked as though it was a large toilet, packed with people. The waterslides were fun but should be roped off where you go into the pool. Many times kids would be waiting at the bottom opening of the waterslides while adults would torpedo out. Again why we appreciated the upgrade (just wish it was consistent and not Make a Deal). Nightlife and entertainment: It was great. We loved the magic show the most. The sportsbar is where you go to party after the show, and was very active each night. Thank you Richard and his staff. Would I go again? NO. Probably not because I want to pay fairly and while the resort was very clean and lovely I am more of a beach person. The beach, and having to fight for chairs, was just not up to what I was expecting or have had in other resorts. In addition, just too many solicitors. The inconsistency in sun club pricing again was a turn off. Tourists talk, and when some pay $250 more than others (or even more than that) you can't help but feel ripped off a bit? Was sun club worth it? Yes- but not like this. I was also really put off by not receiving my breakfast on my last day that I paid (with my family), so think of this next time you turn someone away while allow others in. Unfortunately to the lady that worked the Kaleidoscope door the morning of Sunday February 23rd (8am), you left me a very poor taste in my mouth for how you handled that situation especially after seeing us all week, seeing us tip your staff (and complimenting your chefs), and us explaining the situation. You were very cold to us wearing our long shirts and pants, but welcoming to the kids walking in right after.

    Very disappointing

My wife gave it a D grade and I said C-. They made us wait 4 hours then gave us the wrong room. Food was only OK but we waited more than 2 hours to get in most nights. Drinks were good. Beach was nice, but too many people smoking. We just wanted a stress-free vacation but didn't find it here.

    My Stay

The trip was worthy the money. Staff are excellent. Don't buy into all the negatives on Facebook page. There is plenty to do, eat. and enjoy!! There are plenty of choices for eating and even at the buffet, if you do not want what is out,. there are plenty of cooking stations for your meal choices.

    Good vacation. No major complaints

Beautiful resort Spotless Large beautiful rooms ( we were in adults Club Level ) Wonderful lounge with plenty of snack foods all day long and during cocktail hour. Friendly, courteous staff always with a smile and always willing to help Some suggestions - Add more bar staff - all restaurants should allow reservations to avoid standing in line - would rate restaurant food as average - the adult smorgasbord had good variety and some really excellent dinner choices . The club level is well worth the money with: seperate lounge , seperate check in and check out, seperate pool, seperate beach area. Definitely book a Cabana for the week, attendant puts out towels each morning, and constantly checks on you for drinks and any food you require ( all included ) We just gave a nice tip at the end of week . Overall 7 out of 10 rating .
