Fantastic Housekeeping and Poolside Hospitality Staff
Grateful for everything about this resort, but especially appreciative of housekeeping and poolside service teams. Knowing they're probably considered lower on the totem pole of pay rates and internal promotions, we are always appreciative of their 5-star service and gracious hospitality. This year, Juana Magdalena gave our large suite the best housekeeping we've ever seen, consistently, professionally, and graciously. Poolside and at the Bucanero, every server worked together to give us a fantastic experience every day.

Great location, beautiful property, but there are three reasons this isn’t 5 stars.
We had a several day stay at the resort, with the all-inclusive, during the Thanksgiving week. Cons: -Upon arrival, there was a demand for an extra $550. As it turned out, the reservation had “changed” after we made it, resulting in the extra charge. They were insistent until we were able to produce the original reservation. There was never an explanation for the mix up nor an apology. Our ask to talk to the manager went unanswered. Had we not had the original receipt (we booked directly with the hotel), we would have been stuck with a large extra bill. -They didn’t have enough seats at their restaurants for the crowd. You need reservations at the restaurants days ahead of time - so make sure to book them! Additionally, when we asked what time we could go to the main buffet, the receptionist said it never fills up and just go anytime. This is false. You need to go around 6 to secure a seat. -The “spa credit.” Our rooms had a spa credit but the small print (which isn’t explained) is that it can’t actually be used for a full spa treatment, just a portion of it. It cannot be used for the service fee, which is baked into the cost of the treatment. So, don’t believe you are getting the spa for free. Mind you, it’s still a fine deal - but not what it seems. Pros -The location is terrific. You can see the cape, you can see the cruise ships come and go, you can walk into town along the beach. Terrific. -More on location. This is as close as you get to town without having the crowds of town. -The pools are great. The temperature of them (around 80) is perfect and the hot tubs are great. They also have separate kid/adult hot tubs and got tubs away from the main pool complex (very smart). -The food is above the standard for an all-inclusive. Guillermo and Sergio at the buffet were especially helpful after the first day when we got turned away. -No surprises in the bill at the end. We never ordered top shelf booze and never ordered anything off the all-inclusive menus. We still expected something to go wrong. It didn’t. Okay, maybe the daily environmental fee, but it was a few dollars. -The beach is swimmable! They have a red flag up and tell you not to swim. If it’s a big wave day or big current, don’t do it! But if not, our kids enjoyed the water. I’d stay there again. Perhaps I would call and go over the reservation before arrival to make sure there are no shenanigans next time.

Great Stay at the Arco
We had an amazing stay at the Arco. Service was impeccable. Want to particularly call out Emmanuel and Ramon for being so great. The rooms were clean, the pool always had availability, it was a great trip! We would definitely come back and stay here again.

A scammy bad experience negates any good experience
A bad customer experience negates all the good experience you had. That’s what my family’s stay at this resort boiled down to. We booked 3 all inclusive room paying $7K+. We wanted to enjoy a good drink so we went to their El Patron restaurant bar and ordered 3 margaritas with a premium tequila. They offered us one with selección suprema de herradura tequila and showed $50 on screen, we thought that was reasonable for 3 drinks. But turns out it was $53 per drink, I have never paid this much for a margarita served on a plastic glass poolside even at 7 star hotels. This was completely scam/ripoff, but front desk said they can help because it was restaurant transaction, restaurant just blamed it on us even though they did not explain and confirm the charge until they delivered the drinks poolside. I would suggest just look elsewhere for a hassle free, secure vacation. If you have already booked here be careful on what you order and check charges carefully.

Beware of All-Inclusive Service Scams on Property
BEWARE!!! This isn't the first time we have stayed here and unfortunately, this will be our last. We chose the all-inclusive package. We traveled with friends staying in different rooms. When asked for our rooms, we provided them to the pool staff. We didn't think it really mattered on what was issued per room because of the all-inclusive. Turns out, it does. They will post multiple charges across receipts, plus add waters, shots, etc. to the receipt to inflate the final bill so they can expect a bigger tip and collect the labor on the back end because they are a union. Look at EVERY SINGLE CHARGE before you sign. We asked for a drink and when they said it was premium, we course corrected to the inclusive, but they still charged it. I signed it without review (totally my fault for not checking), but we ended up with an extra 100$ on the bill at the end because we were not careful. For the tip, if you put it on the room, apparently they will only get 35% of it, and actually call to see if they can get cash, or have you sign another receipt for the same amount (essentially charging DOUBLE), for what was initially a very generous tip. You will not get a choice for a room, so you better hope you don't get something looking right at the pool towel distribution center...that wasn't awesome. In addition, at check out - LOOK AT YOUR FOLIO, in detail! Erroneous charges will be there and you cannot dispute them at all. We had issues in the past but wanted to give this a second shot and were very disappointed in the staff and management for how they handle anything related to money or managing accommodations. Its says "Yes I can" on their name badge but should be updated to "Nope, Don't Care".
