    Service could be better

We are here now. When we arrived the room we were given, 1303, was awful. Despite being very clean (the smell of cleanser was very strong), the room was not properly set up - no cups or glasses, or water. The fridge needs to be thrown out. It was very old. The interior was cracked in several places and it was not cold. Inside was a half full bottle of Pepsi, nothing else, obviously left behind by a previous guest. The safe had no lock and was an outdated model that uses a key. We decided not to stay in that room and we were told no other rooms were available in our category. We were offered the option to upgrade to a room in building 3. This room has an ocean view and modern amenities like a digital safe, walk in shower with frosted glass wall that adjoins the main room, separate water closet and glass railed balcony. It cost us $324 CAD to upgrade for 9 nights. The resort grounds are beautiful and meticulously maintained. The beach is also beautiful and we had no problem finding chairs, but we are early risers. Many people had staked out chairs very early. Later in the afternoon we like to move to the pool and never had a problem finding chairs. The wait staff are a mix of friendly and indifferent. The alcohol at the pool bar is definitely watered down. As a test we ordered some tequila shots that were at least half water. Drinks at the sport bar and beach restaurant are better. Frequently they ran out of wine everywhere. Service in the buffet is friendly but needs better training. We were given water but never asked if we wanted wine or beer with dinner. When I asked they said they didn't have any. We had to go to the sports bar for wine with dinner. Many times I finished my breakfast before I was asked about coffee. There are 2 coffee machines in the buffet but often no cups. There were times where they ran out of clean plates too. Alexander at the Sports bar is the only server who was friendly and efficient. The others act like it is a big imposition to serve you. Several days there were no towels. There is no wifi on the beach and I got kicked out frequenly during the day in my room and in public areas. These are all minor things but other resorts seem to handle these better. Senator needs to fix their infrastructure. It's like they cannot handle times when the resort is busy.

Overall good stay. I stayed for 5 days in November which is rainy season but I made the most of it. Staff did a great job of accommodating entertainment on the days it did rain. Room - stayed in the standard room which had its small imperfections however it was spacious, clean with a/c so I was more than content. If you want something more luxurious there are really nice upgrades available. Food - there was something for everyone. From common North American foods to traditional Dominican dishes like Mangu and sancocho. Some things can get repetitive in the buffets so you can book reservations to switch it up. Book in advance because you probably won’t be able to get a reservation same day. Beach - the beach was fine however on the rocky side. Packed water shoes which was suggested in other reviews and it definitely helped. Staff - The staff here is great and brought great energy. Pool - The pool area can get busy so getting chairs for can be a hassle, especially for groups but I was always able to find one. There will be periods of time where beach towels aren’t available so just a heads up for that. Overall, for the price this was a great deal. I had a positive experience and felt safe the entire time.

    Great sunshine getaway.

The staff definitely contributed to a wonderful trip. Animation Team - Skinny, Monkey Black, Baby, Sexy Belly. Wait Staff - Danersa, Juan Pablo, Christi, Miguel and Julien just to name a few. We travelled in a group of 8, had lots of laughs, visited the street market and local market. The water was quite rough but provided for some laughs, the foam party was a hit and I can’t say enough about how enjoyable the food was. This is our second trip to this resort and definitely would not hesitate to return.

    Beware of Time Share Sales

I was at this location twice in two months. Will not be returning to this "timeshare" location. This resort is selling time shares for there other worldwide locations. The first time I listened to their 90 minute talk and politely said no. From this moment forward the staff ignores request or slow walks it. If you see staff with light blue shirts and khakis carrying a clipboard, they will smile and attempt to set up for a timeshare seminar. Beware. As for the property, it nice and manicured. The buffet reminds me of a military mess hall with the exception of children crying and playing echoing throughout. In order to even receive a coffee or water at table you must remember your one dollar bills. I did business in Puerta Plata but will stay at another location. I have been to this city many times but will stay away from the Senator
