Feb 22, 2025Lovely hotel - could be amazing with a few tweaks
Just back from a lovely week at Secrets. Overall we had a relaxing break in this beautiful hotel. We paid for all inclusive and preferred. Here are our positives and negatives: Positives: Beautiful hotel. Well designed and stunning pools. Gorgeous room, spacious and immaculately clean. Very comfortable beds. Super bathroom with shower and jacuzzi bath. Lovely view and balcony. Mostly charming staff who are extremely hard working. Excellent breakfast at Portofino - everything you could want and divine fresh orange juice from Valencia - waiting service superb esp at breakfast. Steak at the evening grill restaurant excellent. Amazing staff at piono bar working so fast its amazing to watch them. Very impressive. Good entertainment. Spa is absolutely wonderful - would go back for that alone. Super couple of lunches at Oceana - delicious grilled fish 'on the back' was delightful. Tuna salad was a pate not a salad - good but still a pate. Negatives: Pools were cold. Told they were 25-27' Not the case. You only had to see guests faces when they stepped in. Not freezing but very cold and I swim every day in UK. Hardly anyone in the water tells you its v cold. Food offering lets the hotel down. It was very inconsistent. First night at Oceana poor. Scallops very overcooked and fish covered in unpleasant sauce (maybe matter of taste here). Other meals average at best generally. (except breakfast which is excellent) I would say 3* at best overall. Being preferred and all inclusive not allowed a bottle of wine at dinner etc. Only a glass which is topped up if you can get attention. Staff work hard but not enough of them. No wine in the room service all inclusive bar just lots of soft drinks and beer. I drink wine and my husband alcohol free but not taken into account despite advising them. No shade around the pool - difficult for someone who burns and has skin cancer. Very few places to go to relax with a drink and a cigarette. Very Very anti-smoking AND vaping even outside! which should be made more clear when booking - not even allowed on your own terrace with doors closed! You have to stand in full sun at a smoking point. Ridiculous verging on dystopian. Although it seems like I have made more negatives than positives I dont mean to. If food improved, with more shade around the pool and heated better, more attention to 5* all inclusive benefits we may return. Overall its a super place if you aren't a foodie, can sit in full sun all day, swim in v cold water and dont fancy the occasional ciggie. The room was worth preferred but not the food. Overall the place is lovely, staff super just needs a few tweaks. I would finally give this hotel 5* for the care it takes of its local cats. All well cared for by a local lady which the hotel facilitates. Nearly all neutered, vaccinated, flea treated and well cared for. There are only a few so shame on those who resent them. They live here. You dont They are probably cleaner than you!

Overall, my stay was truly wonderful. The staff were incredibly friendly and made me feel right at home. The drinks and bar services were fantastic, adding a touch of luxury to my experience. However, I did have a couple of minor points regarding the food. While the meals were generally good, I felt that some dishes could have used a bit more seasoning to really bring out the flavours. Additionally, I wasn't too impressed with the Italian restaurant. It seemed as though the food there lacked the level of care and attention that I experienced elsewhere in the resort. I hope this feedback is helpful for your future guests. I appreciate all the effort put into making my stay enjoyable and look forward to visiting again soon.

Second visit to this hotel and everything was great once again.
Good choice of restaurants with great food. Nice traffic free promenade walk into Puerto Calero and the Marina area is lovely. The outstanding feature of this hotel is the staff. They are all so helpful and friendly and always smiling. Couldn't fault anything on this our second visit and hope to return.

Home from Home
Friendly , welcoming staff, treated everyone like family. Good service and very professional in dealing with peoples needs and requests. Very clean and pleasant ambiance, couldn’t fault it, very comfortable and relaxing. Enough sun loungers and towels for everyone . Good drinks service at the privilege bars. Very happy overall

Standard of service and food quality below standard expected. Some areas of the hotel look tired and worn . Spa was lovely Views and location was peaceful and beautiful. Preferred club areas were worth it. Quality entertainment at night, though short.
