average resort
! 1/2 hour drive from Punta Cana. Tennis courts are neglected. Not enough chair so make you claim early or you wont have one. Our neighbour had no AC and our fan did not work. The food was average. The water equipment was in need of maintenance but was not usable due to the rough water conditions. The Mediterranean restaurant was an excellent surprise. A little run down

Royalton Punta Cana was an amazing resort. Entertainment staff and fitness team were great as well as all other staff. Service was excellent and resort itself was beautiful. Everything was clean and rooms were also great. Food was good lots of selection.

Treasured memories
My stay at the Royalton was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a seamless check-in process. The resort itself is absolutely stunning, with beautifully landscaped grounds, pristine beaches, and modern, luxurious accommodations. We had the time of our lives. Thank you to the wonderful staff who went above and beyond to ensure we had a marvelous stay. Would highly recommend.

NOT a 5 star resort, do NOT waste your money. Lots of people were ill. There is obviously a hygiene issue at this hotel
1st experience at check-in Not warm and welcoming, infact the 1st thing they wanted to do was to take $200 from my credit card. Apparently, this was in case of damage to the room. We BOOKED a double room and was given a twin room. When we asked to swap they said they were full and to try the following morning. We spent 2 nights in a twin room, living out of a suitcase, before they eventually moved us into a double room. Breakfast was, in my opinion, good and that's about the only thing I can say was good. Room Our 2nd room was OK, but cleaning was hit and miss, sometimes we didn't have towels, coffee and water was not left, so most days we went on a hunt for a cleaning trolly. We ended up getting our own water, coffee, toilet rolls and sometimes towels. The shower does not have a shelf, so all your toiletries, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, etc has to go on the floor. Ceiling fan made an awful sound, but we got that fixed. Air con only goes to 18, and to be honest it wasn't great and we were still too hot. BEACH The beach was VERY crowded, narrow beach, loads of sunbeds, but all on top of each other. Not pleasant. We actually used the Diamond part of the beach, and the boys there, JC, Romano and Yiavanni were amazing. They were 5 star, and they looked after us so well. The sea is VERY rough, red flag pretty much every day, so not suitable for swimming. RESTAURANTS the WORST experience EVER. Firstly for breakfast there is only the buffet, which is common for all-inclusive hotels but lunch choice wasn't much better, you had either the buffet, coffee shop or a grill wagon, that served burgers, sausages, chicken, pork and chips. If you wanted this food, the queues were ridiculous, we heard people saying they waited an hour in the queue, only to find out there were no chips left. If you are vegetarian, then you only have the choice of the buffet or to go to the coffee shop. Apparently the Grazie italian restaurant opens as a 2nd buffet when the hotel is full. However, even though we were told the hotel was full, which is why we couldn't get the double room we had actually booked, the Grazie restaurant never opened in the entire 2 weeks we was there!!! Advertised 12 restaurants!!!!!! So in the 10 restaurants (NOT 12), one was buffet, one was extra cost, and one was exclusive for Hideaway guests, which leaves 7 restaurants NOT 12 as advertised!!! Now out of that 7, one is actually the sports "BAR", not a restaurant and again unless you want a burger or chicken wings then you'll be very disappointed. 6 restaurants are, mexican, steakhouse, jade, Zen, grazie and italian at Splash. So 6 a la carte restaurants to choose from, but now the catch, even though it says on the website you don't have to book, they say you do...so down load the app and just book. Easy hey? Well NO, actually it isn't, after trying every hour of every day, and spending the 1st 2 days on my phone like a crazy woman trying to get a reservation all you get is "no availability". The INSULTING thing is when it says "no availability" on the app, if you add an expensive bottle of wine or champagne, miraculously a table becomes AVAILABLE!!!! Just another scam, and a way of ripping you off. Talking to other guests it was the same for everyone. So on the 4th day I asked to speak with a manager. Unfortunately he was "busy" so after an hour, they got a supervisor who told us, there was a problem with the app, and what you needed to do was go on the app between 6 and 6:15 the day before. So basically you have a 15 minute window to book a reservation, and you can only book for the following evening, meaning every day you need to be on your phone at 6. Seriously!! We did manage to book for a few evenings and then it seemed to stop working again, and again this happened to the other guests we'd met. We gave up, after trying to get help from the reception staff, no joy, the customer service team or the supervisor we came to the conclusion we had wasted so many hours sat around waiting for help we decided to do our own thing. I don't recommend this but we bought our way into the restaurants, we either found a member of staff that worked there and paid them or we paid at the front of house. We shouldn't have had to pay but it was the only way to get in to an a la carte restaurant. This made our already OVER PRICED, OVER RATED HOLIDAY even MORE EXPENSIVE but as we wanted to experience these restaurants it was the only way. Now the most annoying part of this is when we actually got into the restaurants they were more than half empty, (obviously these tables were reserved for people buying the wine and champagne) and I'm talking between 10 and 14 empty tables. (I took photos) Absolutely shocking!!!! And as for the service, so as you are eating your starter they are literally shoving your main course infront of you. So a three course meal took 24 minutes, from sitting down to finishing your dessert. Appalling service. I don't eat McDonald's but I think you'd get better service. We kept telling them we wanted a break and at least 10 minutes between courses and in the end we refused to order our main course until we had finished our starter. The presentation was NIL. This was without a doubt the worst Caribbean hotel I have ever stayed at. The food was not good. There were 2 exceptions, and one of these was actually the restaurant exclusive to the hideaway guests (but you can pay to eat there) Frances at the Italian, was very accommodating and looked after us, even though the pizza oven had been broken for 3 weeks, so no pizzas I'm afraid. And Soriy at the Dorado, which you need to pay extra for if you want to dine there. The mexican was bad, and everyone we spoke to said the same. It's like they just get you in throw your food at you and want you out as quick as possible. Awful experience. So after 30 years of travelling to the Caribbean I can honestly say with my hand on my heart I have never been ill. I expect to be ill in India and Egypt, but not the Caribbean. However, unfortunately I was very poorly here and so were many other guests. The 2nd week many guests came down with a sickness and diarrhea bug, about 48hours. We did report this to the rep, who logged all of our illnesses. I did think it was maybe just an unfortunate, isolated case but on returning home, friends we met just before we left, rang us to say they had been ill too. Is this a common thing? No one knows where these things come from but if you watch the bar staff at the swimup pool you may find the answer. The staff collect the plastic glasses, tip the leftovers out, throw all the glasses in a sink of water, rinse them out and then reuse them!!!! No detergent/washing up liquid, just water!! Disgusting !! We reported this to the rep and the manager, who said they would look into it. On top of this we had noise from some maintenance which we also reported. And not major but we had over a 3 hour delay, and during the flight one of our veggie meals went missing so we were offered a cheese sandwich (you have to laugh). To summarise the Royalton Punta cana is NOT 5 star, do NOT waste your money, you can get better hotels, better food and better service for a lot less money. I have put my complaint into TUI and they have offered me £10 to reimburse me for the minus vegetarian meal. They did say they were sorry to hear I'd been poorly. And to confirm the hotel had met its targets. I'm presuming they mean they filled rooms and fed people (regardless if they were ill) TUI you can stick your £10 where the sun doesn't shine. I wouldn't go to a Royalton resort if you paid me. Bahia Principe is my favourite and from now on there's where I am going back to.

The overall experience was great!
The hotel is beautiful and the staff professional but the butler service was terrible.👎🏽 When asked for them to do something it was always here it is do this basically do yourself, so what is their purpose? I would give the butler services 0, but the ladies and gentlemen who checked us in and out even the maintenance guy was fabulous and helpful. I will be back but not with butler service especially if I have to pay for one. They (the butler) didn’t give me all the information I needed to really enjoy all the perks for my Diamond club membership. 🤨
