Winter Break
Great winter break. Excellent food choice, well cooked and presented. Excellent waiting staff (Shima in main restaurant is lovely). Excellent cleanliness throughout. Evening entertainment some of the best all inclusive we've experienced. Only negative is the fact there is nowhere quiet to sit with a drink in the evening, if you want some p & q. Would recommend.

Tips for your next stay at RIU Tequila
My husband and 2 kids (6 & 9) spent spring break at the Riu Tequila. Overall we had a good vacation, no major complaints. The buffet had a good variety, the resort was very clean and the staff were very nice. The bed was comfortable, and so was the sofa bed where the kids slept. The area surrounding the resort is really nice and safe to walk. Just 2 blocks away are some cute shops and a starbucks. Here are just a few tips for future travellers: - The shower only has hair and body wash combined in 1. Bring your own shampoo and conditioner if this will bother you. - We were in building (villa) 25. I found it to be a bit far from the lobby and buffet. It was close to the kids pool. Building 37 seems to be closest to the lobby and most pools. The buildings don't have elevators, so if you have trouble with stairs, ask for the ground level or 2nd floor. - If you need to plug several devices at once, bring a charger with several outlets. - The only swim-up bar is at the adults only pool. It was pretty loud and rowdy. We had a great time at the 2 pools on either side, and there were staff that came around to serve drinks and ice cream. - Italian resto: the buffet starter was pretty good, and the Lasagna was probably the best entrée. - Steakhouse: the mixed grill was good; so was the steak - The beach is very nice, BUT there are no umbrellas or palapas, just palm trees. This seems to be a common thing for the RIU resorts nearby, not sure why. If you worry about getting burned, maybe try to bring your own travel beach umbrella.

Great stay at the riu tequila
Came here for 2 weeks in February and honestly enjoyed every minute of it, did not want to come home!! Every single member of staff were amazing, cleaners, waiters, and animation team especially we're so friendly and helpful. I go to riu hotels quite a lot in all different countries, but the riu tequila is my favourite so far, will definitely be returning

Fantastic All Inclusive!!
I CANNOT fault this hotel. The entire place is kept spotless at all times by the hard-working cleaners. The grounds are well maintained. Rooms are cleaned every day and come equipped with a coffee machine, 4 optics, and a fridge full of beer, soda, and water, which is topped up every 2 days (more if you ask). The rooms are air conditioned and also have a big ceiling fan if required. There are plenty of restaurant options, we tried them all, and our favourite was The Black Cow steak house. Food in all of them was plenty, with loads of buffet choice just for starters! You could have made a complete meal from this if required. The steakhouse was the only restaurant NOT to have an additional buffet. There's also the 24 hour sports bar which makes uo sandwiches which we took on days out for the following days, by which time they were a bit stale, but perfectly fresh on the day they were made! The private beach is a short walk down a lovely shady path, or the buggy runs every 15 mins or so from 8am to 3pm.but we didn't use this. Beach was clean, not a lot of shade. Didn't experience an issue with seaweed. The beach restaurant serves buffet food and wine from 1qam (I think) to 3pm. Have to walk a short distance to the Yukatan pool bar for an alcoholic drink, which was sometimes a pain in the heat, but no biggie. What wasn't made clear, although I did read it in the hotel book after, is that the ONLY meal you can have at one of the other 2 hotel restaurants is lunch. You MUST have breakfast and evening meal at the hotel you are staying at, but again, no real issue as they all have the same menu. We just wanted to go to the Mexican at the Playacar as the Tequila didn't have this, and was disappointed that it didn't open u til 6.30pm, which meant we couldn't eat there. Pools are always clean and never have a shortage of sunbeds. Towels can be collected by swapping it for a card that you get back when you return the towel. If you lose the card, you will be charged 30 pesos. There is also a pool BBQ, which is delicious, and we saw one pool party in our 10 days there. We took dollars and pesos, but I ended up changing the dollars to Pesos as it worked out to cost a bit more when paying in dollars. We o ly spent money on tips and tourist tat (souvenirs), plus stuff on days out. Visited 5th Avenue, taxi is 150 Pesos one way, and they are parked outside the hotel. There is only one firm in Playacar, so you can't get it wrong. Every shop person along 5th Avenue was pestering us to go into their shop which was really annoying and on our return, we saw that Playacar literally has its own Plaza a 5 minute walk from the hotel which had similar shops and stalls (only not on such a large scale) that we needed or wanted without having to go to 5th Avenue and they sold the same stuff at a fraction of the price! Remember to barter and look around as the prices for the same thing vary quite a bit from shop to shop. Hotel has a different themed show on each night from 9.30pm to 10.30 pm, which is basically the enterta8nment team dancing, but they are amazing and a lot of work goes into them and the production. Friday night is party night, one week neon, next, white party. These are always packed as everyone comes from the other Riu hotels. Finally, staff are all so friendly and hard working, they never stop! Always wanting to please, and nothing is too much trouble! Check in was easy and we were greeted with a juice. Check out was easy and they cut your band off and give you a ticket so you can still eat and drink up to the point of your transfer to the airport which is good. I'd definitely go back tomorrow!
