Beware of this resort! Theft!
This resort has many employees that steal from you and steal things in your room and safe. Beware and go at your own risk. They take advantage of spring breakers and prey on them so theft is a big problem there! Definitely would pass on this one. So many things that were very sketchy there..

Absolutely do NOT come here with families during Spring Break!!!!
Written on Sunday March 30. I know... I know...I know what you're going to say, it's spring break, what did you expect? Well, I expected that once the party was over, there wouldn't be screaming, yelling, and fighting in the halls unpoliced until 4am. I expected that they would adjust the door closers in the hotel rooms so they don't slam closed. All hours of the night people are going to their rooms and cannot close their doors respectfully. Then again in the mornings, people seem to simply not give two F's. So don't come here if you're a light sleeper. By the way I'm not, but apparently I will be this week... The food is okay, but I knew that and am/was A-okay with that. (I'm currently here so no rose colored glasses at the end of my trip). Since it's spring break, I'm guessing the staff is going flat out. All are really happy, friendly and courteous and trying their best. However, my room has/had stains from spills on the coffee table, sand in the sheets, and black hair on the pillow, my partner is blonde. Guessing this got a quick once over and the sheets weren't changed. The WiFi likely has a ton of phone connections right now, we haven't been able to get on it at all. It says it connects but everything times out. Expect to pay for your data plan or go without. Maybe it works better in gathering areas? No option to turn off your ceiling fan... and you only have sheets for blankets. So raise your T-stat to 23°C and set the fan to low, and request blankets. Or remove your card from the enable switch, but lose the ability to charge your phone. Also, they limited the heat pump to cooling only, no heat. Speaking with the front desk staff and about a quieter area/room, I was offered with an upgrade for $435/room USD to suites (we are a family of 4 and were set up on opposite sides of building 7. Rooms 7002 and 7292, we asked for adjoining or same floor, they did their best based on availability and our booking selection ((what we paid for)) so I get why we were split up, but a family of four with two older kids, we hoped for closer, but the hotel is at max capacity). So what did they end up doing? Offered us two rooms side by side in a different building with King size beds, after another night in the same loud rooms. Not ideal, but it's the least they could do and obviously they want to do the bare minimum and preserve their suites for paying customers rather than striving for excellence. Just remember when booking, the star next to the 5 (*5 Riu Santa Fe) is an asterisk, indicating "not really their best". Mind you this is all a stark contrast to places like the Dunamar. So don't hold the chain to the same standard as the Santa Fe. The good, cus this needs a little balance. I'm not a complete hater: It's big, lots of bar and food options. You don't have to wait much if at all for things. The layout is really beautiful. We love the small Mexico town feel that they are going for, it's what drew us to this over the Jalisco (similar price point). We love large resorts and are active people, so the walking is right up our alley. The staff are so great. Especially my front desk person Rosse who tried her best to help within the constraints she was working within. We suggested 1 suite with two cots and give them back a room, for no cost, but no can do. No fault of hers. I know Riu sees this stuff, so we'll see if I modify/delete this review. Or if their standard canned "Thank you for choosing RIU and for sharing your concerns with us! We regret that your stay at our hotel did not fulfill your conception in some aspects, as our priority is to provide a professional service at all times and to ensure a relaxing stay to all of our visitors. We truly hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back again soon in one of our Worldwide premises to regain your trust in our brand and services. Please receive our warmest regards" Is exactly what you think it is; lip service, or if they actually strive for more than mediocrity. I'll wait with baited breath.

Long needed vacation
We haven’t had a chance to travel since COVID. We were so looking forward to this vacation and the RIU Santa Fe didn’t disappoint. Although the resort was huge it was easy to navigate. We ate most of our meals at the buffet and the food was top notch. Our evening server was Brenda. She welcomed us every night and looked after us as if we were the only ones being served. Room was clean and comfortable. All in all will probably return.
