Jan 29, 2025Nice Resort in Panama!
Hotel Riu Playa Blanca Our group of 14 from Ontario, Canada (Listowel, Hanover, Cargill, Wingham, Atwood and Walkerton) had a great time! Short 15 minute ride from the airport in Rio Hato Check in was organized and efficient Room 6032 was nice with a king size bed Food at the buffet had lots of selection and was pretty good Pineapple at the buffet was delicious Beach had real palm trees for shade Entertainment was enjoyable We went on the Panama City tour through Sunwing which we paid for in advance in Canadian currency Our friends arranged a private Panama City tour on a small bus which was much cheaper than the Sunwing offer even with the exchange The resort has reliable wifi You can make requests through the Riu app I used google translate on the app and translated my request from English to Spanish and that worked well We went to the Italian restaurant and most of our group enjoyed their meal. I had lasagna and it was different because they didn’t integrate the ground beef into the sauce but instead they put a layer of ground beef on top of a layer of lasagna noodles. Didn’t appeal to me because I don’t eat ground beef unless I can’t taste it. We went to the Steakhouse restaurant and the food was delicious! My husband had steak and it was a good portion and he enjoyed it. I had salmon and it was very tasty. We had brunch at the snack bar. Lots of selection. Clean and tidy! One notable difference from resorts in other countries is that the people don’t constantly ask for expect tips. We had a lovely day at the pool We had dinner at the Asian restaurant and the sushi appetizer was good. I had the crab and cream cheese app which was okay. My husband main was the pork rib and he liked it. I had the chicken and it was okay. For dessert they didn’t have what was on the menu and instead they had cheesecake which was delicious. The other option was some sort of white coloured shell filled with soft chocolate. The chocolate filling was basically chocolate icing. I could not eat it as it as it was so sweet just like icing you put on a cupcake. The pools are great some adult and some for families There is always a lot of selection at the buffet We haven’t had any rain in January which is their summer season (mid December until mid April) Winter season (late April until the end of November) it rains all the time.

Jan 28, 2025A nice hotel in an exotic area
The five nights spent in this hotel charged us with positive energy. The room on the fifth floor, where we stayed, with a partial sea view, towards the east, was fine. The meals served at the Balboa restaurant and the beach restaurant were tasty, with many dishes to suit all tastes and delicious exotic fruits. All the hotel staff, receptionist, chambermaid showed professionalism, which denotes a rigorous management. We had a wonderful time and would definitely return to this hotel.

SCAM ALERT – This review only applies to the RIU Playa Blanca, Panama. If you’re looking for a ride from the airport in Panama City to RIU Playa Blanca and booking transportation through the hotel you’ll want to know the following. First, be prepared to spend a lot of time on hold and be passed from one person to the next. This not only applies to arranging transportation to this property, but will apply to anything that appears to require some discussion. After one hour on the line (mostly on hold) I was able to book a round-trip ride by private car to the RIU Playa Blanca and paid for it over the phone for $132. The SCAM plays out here… When you schedule the time of departure on the day you check out, or days before, you may observe that your e-voucher states no return flight # and no specific time for departure. The hotel told me that when I made the reservation I didn’t provide the return flight information; thus, I will not receive a return ride!?! Then, I was advised that the $132 that I paid them will now only cover the cost of the one-way trip to the resort, and that I would have to pay for another ride to return to the airport at an additional $132. I stated that we were never asked for any return flight information. The front desk said that they could check the audio recording from the phone call to prove that they did ask for this information; although, it was stated that even if they didn’t ask for that information there was no guarantee that they could help. What? I spoke to another person who worked at one of the 2 or 3 other “supposedly” independent, transportation companies within the hotel. I explained what happened and they said “this happens all the time“, and forces the customer to pay double for transportation to and from the hotel. . It’s an extremely frustrating experience as you have very little to leverage other than telling them that you will dispute the charges to your credit card when you return to the United States, or your country of origin. I have now done so and the disputed charges have been refunded to my account. I want to be clear that it does not appear to be a companywide policy to pull this on all RIU customers, but certainly appears to be the norm at Playa Blanca. Lastly, don’t get suckered into thinking that Seaview and Seafront mean that you can see the ocean. I was told you must have a Seaview room to see the ocean, and they do not characterize obstructed view, if applicable. I will not be returning to this property. Hope this helps those of you wanting to enjoy your vacation and not be scammed.

Sun and Fun
Had a fantastic time, met up with people from home that I did not know were traveling there. The location was right on the beach, and even the vendors on the beach were pleasant. Pool bar was always hoping and active. Food was good.
