Wonderful place, but keep an eye on how your drinks are handled!
This was our 2nd stay at this Riu. Like last time, our stay was great. The food was good, the rooms were comfortable and clean, and everything went well. We did notice the staff wasn't quite as friendly this time as last, and the evening shows weren't nearly as entertaining. But it was still great. Our biggest complaint though is that the waiters/waitresses and bar staff all grab glasses and cups by their rims. So, they'll pick up someone's emptied cup/glass by the rim, and then promptly hand you your fresh drink handling it by the rim. So, if they pick up 20 dirty cups before handing you your drink, you get to put your lips on a cup/glass that potentially has the germs/viruses of 20 other people on it. But it's actually much worse than that, because we watched several of the staff do this for over 2 hours and never once wash or sanitize their hands. So, they're spreading around germs and viruses by the truckloads. When we were there last year, there were numerous people who caught COVID at the resort, ourselves included. We're pretty sure the cause of it was the way the waiters and servers were handling the drinks. And the thing is, the types of viruses that can be spread around this way contain some that could be much more severe and/or long lasting than COVID (I'm thinking Herpes, Hepatitis, etc). This is something the management really needs to pay attention to and discuss with ALL of their servers and waiters/waitresses. Regular hand washing and sanitizing should be a topic of discussion as well. This time around, we took our own cups that had screw on lids, and the portion of the lid that your mouth touches is an inch or so above where the servers are grabbing your drink by the rim. As such, while we didn't completely negate our potential exposure, we did definitely lessen it. So, a word to the wise, take your own cups with tall lids and watch how your drinks are handled. The only other thing that really bothered us while there was that we tried eating at the Steakhouse several times. Every single time though, we were told they were full and wouldn't have vacancies for an hour. However, we would count and there would be 6+ tables vacant. After we'd get done eating at one of the other restaurants, we would walk back by the steakhouse and the same tables would still be vacant. We never really understood that. But regardless, we had great meals at the other restaurants, so it's all good.

Amazing, Wonderful, Awesome
We have stayed many times at the Riu Palace Las Americas, and the reason is the staff, from the Front Office Manager Laura Perez, who is attentive to everyone's needs and makes sure they are happy, to all the staff whom we have seen over the years, that are still working there, which speaks volumes for the resort. The Rooms are comfortable with all the amenities you would ever need, the food and restaurants that cater to everyone's pallet, and the beach and pools which are well taken care of as well as the service which we have not seen any better in all of our travels. If you want to pampered and have a great time in a wonderful location by staff that care that your vacation and stay with is a memorable and great time while you are there, then this is the place for you.
