Very well run resort on a beautiful stretch of beach
I've been to maybe 6 or 7 different Riu Resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean, and this one is my favorite. The entire resort is spotlessly clean, beautifully landscaped and the beach is superb. Can't wait to return

Nice
The hotel was at a very nice location. Was a little disappointed with service…no welcome drink no information on what to expect. The customer service could be better at check in. The spa service was not worth the money. It was the most expensive spa service I have paid for in Mexico and was not impressed. The food was delicious the waiters at the restaurants were great! The Mexican restaurant was my favorite. The rooms were nice. The fire light flashed twice at night which woke me up but the was not the hotels fault. The beach was one of the nicest I have seen. Lots of palm trees, clear water and no sea weed. I would go back and just would not do the spa service.

70th Birthday at the Amazing RIU Palace Costa Mujeres.
When we arrived, we met Marimar Luna, who welcomed us to the hotel. She was lovely and very friendly and met up with us several times during our holiday to ask and check we was alright. We got a lovely surprise with a room upgrade to an Oceanview room, I still can't get over the gorgeous view of the ocean we had, and thank you for all the little presents we had in our room. The holiday was for my mum's 70th Birthday. Food/Restaurants. There was plenty of choice of food. We ate in mostly the speciality restaurants, and getting into them was fairly easy. Not much waiting time with the buzzer they gave us. We booked the Krystal restaurant when we arrived for my mum's birthday on Saturday 1st March as it was for a special birthday meal, with Marimar Luna, she was lovely and very helpful and friendly. The Krystal restaurant had done a lovely job of decorating our table and using balloons, etc. They even surprised my mum with a good portion of cake (it was so big we shared it)! and everyone was singing happy birthday to her. Our waiter in the Krystal restaurant treated us very special and I want to give a shout out to Jose. Pools. Our favourite pool was the Tequila pool bar! All the staff are lovely and work so hard and they are always happy and smiling. A big shout out to Irvin and Miguel, who are amazing! I was gutted that they did the Domino at the bar less than an hour after our pick-up time to the airport! We will have to come back now to see it again! 🤣 This pool bar also had the Pepe's food, which was so delicious! Beach. Beach was gorgeous, hard to walk on, but lovely. We didn't go swimming in the sea as it was a red flag pretty much every day we were there. But then I'm not really a sand person anyway, I prefer the pool bar! 😆 Room Service. Room Service was good, Menu was a little limited, but we enjoyed it, especially the Nachos and Tacos. We haven't used room service before so it was a nice luxury for when we was abit tired from the sun all day and just wanted to chill in our gorgeous room and sit on our balcony and listen to the night time entertainment as our room was above the theatre. Entertainment. The silent disco was excellent, which we had on our first full day there.

Questions:
Question: about my next vacation: as we love RIU"s and want to try Mexico: is the water tides high, is the beach low and shallow, is the beach rocky for little kids? Are water shoes needed? How far is the drive from the airport? Is July a good time to travel, or is there seaweed like much of Mayan Riviera?

Beautiful location and delicious food
The resort is beautiful, and will be even more so as more trees and flowers mature. Impeccable upkeep, maintenance and cleaning throughout the resort. There’s always a space to do what you’ld like at any given moment (whether it’s for some quiet time, a coffee or tea break, a snack, a meal, etc.) because there are multiple/variety of places to go to, and they are never crowded. The food is fresh and delicious (breakfast, lunch, supper, snacks, you name it) at both the buffet and specialty restaurants. The staff is very polite, friendly and accommodating. My only complaint is about the linens in the rooms ie: would be nice if they had new towels (the ones in the rooms now are past their prime and thinning) and replace the bedding, especially the pillows, with a higher quality brand.
