Dec 18, 2024Extreme disappointment
We went into this so excited and was the most disappointed we have ever been. We have stayed at Riu resorts elsewhere and this was trash in comparison.bRiu in Ochos Rios is the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. Most of the staff minus some servers have been rude and dismissive. Even upon check in it was very apparent we were an inconvenience. When we got to our room it was mediocre clean, with stains on sheets including a mold mark on the pillows and only one blanket for two beds. The closet door was off the hinge, and the safe barely worked as well as a towel holder was clearly ripped off wall. We got in late so too tired to deal. The second day we had to go ask a question so we stood in a line at the customer service line and was given the side eye while they ignored us and whispered and laughed. No one was in line. My husband finally went up and again they were dismissive. We did bring up the issues and only the closet door was fixed. The whole property is covered in trash and filthy including the beach. The common areas of our building were dirty and had trash. Our elevator didn’t look like it was cleaned in years. One day it didn’t even work. I also heard people talk about needles on the beach. The pool area was all sandy and trash from drinks everywhere so there were a ton of bees. Most of the lifeguards weren’t watching anyone and spent most of time flirting with girls. I saw people pushing others drunkenly into the pool with kids and the lifeguards were on their phones or checking out girls. The first few days of food was ok but then became mediocre. The specialty restaurants basically had the same as buffet. The buffet I thought was clean until I noticed the black mold all over the walls. There was also mold on my pillow the first night. We did try going back to the front desk but were once again ignored by the staff and honestly at this point we were too nervous to say anything because we wanted our room to be safe and treated respectfully. Thankfully the weather was mostly nice and the Infiniti pool area was better than anywhere else. Anytime we went into the store we would say hi and would be glared at as if we were an inconvenience. I’ve never been so insulted and disgusted in my life. If we had the money I would have 100% moved to a nicer hotel. Was too nervous to move and have same experience. Also the bathrooms by the beach never had soap someone clearly brought a room soap in and it kept getting filled with water instead of soap being replaced. Gross!! As for the room, the cleaning was mediocre. I instantly stepped in sand on first day in room when I took my shoes off. The dust and stains in bathroom was gross on trim. The building in general needs some serious upgrades. I had to call again today about the safe and no one came by so I have to go to front desk. It’s so hard to press the buttons I had to use my nail clippers round end to push buttons in. I would never stay here ever again and am extremely disappointed. Really put a damper on what should’ve been a nice vacation. I also did some review reading and there are lots of concerns from others. I understand having mold at times BUT to have it outright in the kitchen eating area all over the wall is a health hazard. I did not l. Here are some photos. I’m sure there is more. I included photos below. You will see one of them being a coffee cup, which should’ve been rinsed out and cleaned, but they look like they washed it with a dirty rag. Disgusting! Would never go back.

My first day there they had no towel cards for us so I couldn't use the pool or go to the beach. No iron in my room till day 2 so I couldn't wear what I wanted to

Been twice now, absolutely love it there. The position to the beach is ace which can't be said for all hotels that claim to be by the beach. I like that it has a quiet side during the day round one of the pools, and a mental side at the other pools on the other side with loud music, a d.j and foam parties etc. The food is a bit samey but that's the same in every all inclusive i've ever been to, but the choice that they did have was really nice. I wish they had proper pork sausages for breaky not hot dog ones or little spicy chipolata things, but everything else was great. Good branded spirits in the room, plenty of mixers in the fridge and as many more as you want in 15 mins when you order on the app. The only thing i would've wanted different would be better equipment in the gym... nowhere near enough weights for anyone that trains seriously, and no bench rack in there, just a rubbish machine that needed the pin to be at the bottom of the stack straight away. The aircon in there is non existent and none of the staff knew where the controller for it was for it... I think they were lying and said it was on full but it was like a sauna in there. I could also have done with cooler aircon in the room. It was ok when you first go in from the outside heat, but at night it was a bit warm for me with 22 degs being the lowest you could set it.

I have two days left till I leave.... The entertainment staff are fantastic... the pools and beach is beautiful. The food is average and repetitive, however most of the staff were lovely. I stayed in room 3549. This was a partial sea view room. I have had to swap rooms as I found cockroaches in my room. This seems to be an issue in the complex as I have seen a couple around. I would have thought that I would have had a room upgrade as I had to swap at 2am which was a major inconvience. The phone on the new room does not work. As I said the entertainment staff is great, the grounds are beautiful, however this is not 5 star due to the rooms and the food.

I’ve stayed at better Riu’s
Let me start off by saying I love Riu Hotels and resorts , but this was not worth it ! Staff is not friendly , the restaurants are horrible, buffet was really good ! Hotel was very clean and the beach was amazing ! I’m just use to friendly staff and a welcoming environment and this was far from that !
