    Modern rooms, beach a little disappointing

    Very clean resort. Friendly staff. Great pools with lots of sun and shade. It can be a bit difficult to get a la carte reservations as they fill up quick on the app. The Bach sand is very hard, and lots of seaweed near the shore. This resort gets 8.5/10 from me. The beach is lacking, and there is no drink servers around the pool. The wait times for the poolside chicken hut can be excessive, and it’s a pain to change out of swimwear to go to the buffet for lunch.

    Great entertainment staff they always had something going. Food was good, property was well maintained, we were in an accessible room which needed a makeover but our friends room was very nice and newly renovated.

    Just OK. Not the worst place I’ve been, but certainly not great. A cruise ship stuck on the reef. It was next door

    In many ways this was like a cruise ship that didn’t go anywhere. The food and beverages were free, but both were uninspired. The rooms were adequate, not great, but OK. Minibar was short on softdrinks and there was no temp control on the minifridge. Staff was very friendly. Would not stay here again.

    NOT FOR US!

    What a peculiar experience. We are much travelled RIU hotel fans - and having had a previous enjoyable stay at the Riu Palace in Negril, we did not hesitate to try the Riu Montego Bay. Regretfully, that was a big mistake! The hotel itself is very well appointed, and the rooms and public areas are all in good order. Food was pretty typical All Inclusive fare - certainly nothing to complain about. Alcohol was of course local brands (ie weak!) but plentiful and with a $1 note in your hand service was good! The main issue was the incredible behaviour of our fellow guests. To be frank, if you over 40/ 45 years of age - my advice would be to stay elsewhere. Over the weekend the hotel was inundated with rowdy, noisy and often inebriated youngsters. In fact the atmosphere, particularly around the pool bar, was often quite intimidating. I have no problem with guests enjoying themselves, but there was absolutely no evidence of control by the Management of the Hotel. Bare chested men, and scantily dressed women were allowed anywhere they wanted to wander - including the main bar area. As you might guess - most of them were well lubricated and extremely noisy. For what it is worth, I think the Hotel should just advertise as a party Hotel. I’m sure it would be very well supported - and old fuddy duddys like us would be advised to stay elsewhere.
