Beware of Destination Services - RIU’s preferred shuttle service c
Riu Dunamar for March break was mediocre. The place is nice for a non luxury resort. The bartenders are really nice but I have to say the pina colada’s tasted like medicine. Lots of food selection but its not the best. The steak is rubbery at the steak house and the Bamboo Restaurant is more a fusion that chinese food. The salmon sashimi was served room temperature. We went there few occasions and the both times sashimi were room temperature. Cant complain about the service at the hotel as everyone was doung what they were supposed to do - and thats to make sure guests are happy. The shuttle service - Destination Services - I have to say, had a very bad experience. My daughter lost her phone and left it at the shuttle Service. It was an Iphone 15 we called Riu and the Shuttle service and neither one was not able to assist. We called Destination Services and they said they needed to wait for the driver to make a report. We were dropped off at the airport at 4:20 AM we were the only people he dropped off. My daughter was able to locate her phone thru location finder at 5 am. We were going to where the phone was but was told by the airport staff to not bother cause the area where the phone was located is dangerous part of Cancun. We decided not to go. I called Destination Services and told them what we were told and still was told not to worry will just wait for the driver. Finally when we got to Toronto I received an email from Destination Services and was advised the driver finally sent a report and no phone was located meanwhile as per the phone locator the phone did not move at all, it was still at the same spot when my daughter checked the locate me. I told Destination Services about it and never heard from them. Lesson learn!!! I called RIU and told them of what happened and I was just told they are not responsible for the phone. I get that i am not asking them they should be - but hust an FYI!

Mixed Stay at RIU Dunamar – Safety Concerns and Poor Service Undermined Family Trip
We stayed 10 nights at RIU Dunamar (March 2025), booking a multi-generational family trip. While the location and some staff were wonderful (thank you Eva, Adriana, Arturo, Willy and Christiano), the overall experience was deeply disappointing. Key issues: Safety: A cat scratched my 2-year-old son in the reception area—why are animals allowed in common areas and near food? A lamp exploded near us in the evening. A guest openly smoked marijuana by the kids’ pool with no action taken by staff. Rudeness and disrespect: My elderly parents were denied basic service (coffee, water) and mocked by staff in the dining area. When raised with management, we felt blamed or dismissed rather than heard. Laundry incident: After my father-in-law had a health issue, reception staff (Aldo) lied and laughed at our distress when we asked about the laundry. Only after escalating was it returned—without any apology. Housekeeping & maintenance: Rooms weren’t cleaned, gym machines were broken, and feedback was brushed off as “not my job.” Poor communication: We waited 9 days for confirmation of airport transport, despite asking daily. Thankfully, subdirector JO was the only senior staff member who showed true professionalism, apologizing for her team's actions and trying to make the last days more comfortable. But even her hands were tied on some basic issues, like requesting a staff member to apologize for disrespect. Sadly, we will not be returning to RIU. Hospitality is about care, safety, and dignity—things that should never be compromised.

Very clean and nice food 👌
Beautiful week, and we transfer to the Riu Palace Costa Mujeres, high standard, very nice room and the most clean hôtel I ever seen. We love Riu Hôtels, for now we went to Riu Nudamar, Riu Palace Costa Mujeres And Riu Palace Los Cabo’s.

family vacation - Riu Dunamar Cancun
Review: Riu Dunamar – Spring Break 2025 We are a family of four with two teenage boys (17 & 18) and spent a week at Riu Dunamar over Spring Break. A special shout-out to Santi, the evening bartender in the sports bar—as a hockey family, we truly appreciated his effort to stream games for us, even using his personal account. Pros: Stunning beach – Soft, sandy, and rock-free Plenty of activities – Waterparks, water sports, beach volleyball, pools, lively parties at the resort and sister properties (for adults), and a sports bar with a pool table Clean, spacious rooms – Though we requested one room with two beds and received a king bed with a cot Well-maintained resort – Hardworking, attentive staff Good food variety – Enjoyed the first-come, first-serve dining over reservations Cons: No quiet areas – Central layout makes it loud all day and night, with no adults-only pool Remote location – Over an hour from Cancun airport in peak traffic Strong winds and waves – Challenging for families with small children Unregulated smoking on the beach – Disappointing to see cigarette butts in the sand Limited late-night food options – Not ideal for always-hungry teenage boys No washrooms at the waterslides – Closest facilities were back in the resort Overall, we had a great trip, loved the beach, and appreciated the well-maintained resort. The staff truly exceeded our expectations.

Great last minute destination
I enjoyed my stay here although it’s far from everything. 45 minutes from the airport and 35 from the main strip. My suggestion is Uber. It’s cheaper than the cabs there. Overall, the staff is friendly go to Luigi at the pole bar, and my suggestion is the bamboo restaurant.
