Wish I had listened to the poor reviews.
I chose to ignore the poor reviews before traveling and I wish I hadn’t…. Me and my husband were due to stay here for 10 days in December for our honeymoon, we lasted 4 days. To start with the food and drink hygiene is none existent. None of the food is labelled meaning that at times you have to guess what you are eating, children are unsupervised and we observed several children to be using their hands to grab food due to the utensils being too difficult for them to use (not a fault of the hotel but staff are not encouraging parents to supervise their children), none of the buffet food is covered meaning flys are constantly landing on the food. They advertise this hotel as having 5 restaurants, apart from 2 of the restaurants the others are themed buffets which was a disappointment. My husband in fact did become ill with sever stomach pains as well and vomiting and diarrhoea. I asked the bar for 4 bottles of Pepsi to take to the room and these were out of date by 1 month. These bottles were being served at the bar during that day. The blender used to make the cocktails were being cleaned using the tap water and not dried before making a drink which is alarming when there are signs around the hotel stating the water from the taps is not safe to consume! The hotel is a party hotel, with guests highly intoxicated in the evening. We didn’t mind this but when guests are being rude and offensive due to having consumed a large amount of alcohol it is a let down. The hotel staff appeared to choose when they can understand English or not and often not very helpful. After all this we decided after 4 days to pay to change hotel as we were on the verge of wanting to go home as we were not enjoying our time. I wish I had listened to the bad reviews and changed hotel before travelling. On a good note we flew with TUI and there was a TUI exclusive only pool which was lovely and we enjoyed spending time around. Also the room we stayed in (a villa) was large, clean and we cannot fault except the shower could have been cleaned better but was clean.

Amazing trip with our family!
We came for 8 days to RIU Bambú in Punta Cana. Moises at the pool bar was especially memorable. He was so kind and attentive to our whole family and made each day at the pool great.

Very disappointed
My experience was very poor. From the hospitality to the food. It was not worth the money I spent. We never received the proper linen even after asking numerous times. The food was not even hot. The only thing worth eating was the hibachi restaurant

RIU Bamboo, it’s loud and not a typical RIU as we know them!
We mainly use RIU hotels when we travel and are fairly brand loyal. Sadly our very recent visit to the RIU Bamboo has spoilt that loyalty. The room was ok on initial impressions, but we soon discovered that there was not a remote control for the TV in the room at all, not a problem as we weren’t going to watch it anyway, until the TV came on by itself when we put our card into the power socket by the door on day 5, then despite a thorough search, non was to be found, the TV we discovered was hardwired into the wall, so after a while we had no choice but to pull the small power socket out of the back of the TV! Also the toilet seat was very loose, we didn’t report it, but in an alleged 5* hotel, the cleaning staff should have raised this. The hair dryer was loose on the wall in the bathroom, with exposed wiring easily acceptable to prying hands behind it, should you have curious children around! No problem as we didn’t intend to use it, as my wife had taken her own…. Until I decided to use it after a shower one night during the second week, then after a minute or so’s use it made a strange noise like the fan bearing collapsing, then it stopped and after a few seconds caught fire before I had chance to turn it off, it was quickly remedied when I turned the power off, but some people may have panicked! One night during the second week, we decided to stay in, so I thought we’d make use of the coffee machine (no kettle provided,if you prefer other hot drinks!). Even though there’s no milk supplied, so I knew it would be a trip to the restaurants to ask the waiters for some, as milk seems a closely guarded commodity! Anyway, I opened the receiver to put the water in so the coffee could percolate whilst I went on a milk finding adventure, only to find hundreds of ants suddenly escape from the receiver! Both of us were very surprised to see this, so I videoed the scene on my phone and immediately went to reception to complain. They promised immediate attention, which never happened. (This was the night before the hairdryer fire) so needless to say we went down and complained strongly and demanded to see the manager after the small fire! The staff then dealt with both matters very quickly, but this was after several complaints regarding the ants, lack of optics being replaced (after 5 days of requests etc)! The RIU app requesting drinks to refill the optics and fridge is a waste of time, I even got an app message saying that matters had been dealt with and we hoped you liked our prompt service! Er, what service! Maybe we were unlucky with our room, who knows! Positives were that the staff were very friendly, particularly the bar and restaurant personal. The maids kept the room clean and were also very friendly. The food is plentiful but not of a great quality on the whole, and with heat lamps trying to keep it warm, well, don’t expect hot food unless it comes straight off the griddle! The alcoholic drinks were mainly branded and plentiful, no complaints there. Fantastic white sand beach, even the beach vendors were pleasant, friendly and took no for an answer if required. If you like the beach as we do, we’re not pool people (pools were nice though) then don’t bother taking snorkelling gear in December at least! Far too rough for snorkelling, but the water is warm and the beach has an even drop, no sudden drops in height etc! Overall, this hotel is large, it has a lot of different nationalities and is a loud place!! However, everything is easy to find and navigate, but in our opinion, it’s certainly not a 4 or 5 star hotel! Other RIU hotels we’ve been to, easily overshadow this one. Staff are great, service for problems is very poor unless you demand strongly! We won’t be going again!

Shame on you, RIU Bambu!
Worst experience my family and I had with this RIU chain resort so far in the whole Carribean AI hotels, including other RIUs. We’ve travelled extensively over the last 15 years but never experienced such low level of service. Front desk representatives are the worst, they either ignore you or ask for additional money for everything. For example, my 14 y.o. daughter left her key in the room and asked for additional key. They demanded $10us as a deposit and promised to get her money back once she returns the key. Guess what? Renee and some old woman in glasses at the front desk bluntly lied to my kid and refused to return her money back. Shame on you, RIU Bambu! So low, so corrupted… Please avoid traveling there and don’t make my mistake ignoring negative reviews.
