Avoid this Resort!!!
This resort is rated at 4.5 stars; try a 2 star. If you are looking for a relaxing place to stay, this resort is not the one. If you like 3 to 4 bands playing at the same time on the beach with a lot of beach vendors bugging you again, this is the place for you. The food was not good. The resort, beach, and rooms were very clean; the only plus was that. Serious folks, I DO NOT recommend this resort on many levels; please don't waste your money. There is excellent food in the restaurants outside the resort, and the staff is friendly.

Avoid at all cost.
This property was not as advertised... we wound up leaving after the first night despite forfeiting 3 pre-paid nights. I wish we had seen the room before we paid at reception. The condition of the hotel grounds and the the room itself was gross and sticky. Pubic hair all over the bathroom and we slept fully clothed in the beds. The rooms were not secure with a flimsy door and patio door. It's a family hotel and at the time of our stay was filled with screaming children and drunks making noise unchecked until early morning hours. The breakfast buffet was inedible. When approached, the manager was hostile, totally obnoxious and laughed at the pictures that were presented of the pubic hair in the bathroom and the bandaid found in the bed. We didn't even bother asking for a refund.

WORST PLACE EVER
Never again would I stay in this place!! From the beginning upon our arrival it was hectic and chaotic. Check-in took FOREVER and once it was finally all done we were only given 1 of our 3 rooms and told the other 2 would be ready by 3pm. We returned at 3pm to get our keys for the other 2 rooms and were told they were not yet ready. 6 of us were in 1 room for a few hours before the other 2 rooms were ready. And to make matters worse, on our last day of being there, we were robbed. Cash was taken from us and when reported management did absolutely nothing. They looked into who accessed our room throughout the day and it was clear when they went in yet still nothing was done. Worst experience ever, completely ruined our trip and time there.

Our yearly trip to Mexico
The hotel was clean and staff was friendly. The buffet was okay the restaurant food was a better choice. The coffee cafe was great. It was over crowded, especially in the pool area. several charter buses came in and out through out the week. The hotel also allowed day passes which my have been the reason. We were the only Americans there and seemed like the only ones who tipped, The staff was very grateful. The pool bar said adults only but there were children constantly coming and ordering drinks as well. That was a little frustrating

The Total Solar Eclipse
I will always stay at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan. Once again this hotel exceeded my expectations. My deluxe ocean view room had in my opinion the best view of Mazatlán. Most of the staff knows me by name and I consider them my friends. The restaurants and entertainment are unmatched and this hotel is my favorite anywhere. I am looking forward to my stay in October. All that I have to say is wow!
