This is not an autograph collection or even close to a 4-5 star

Let me start by saying, do I like nice things? Yes. Do I need Ritz/4 Seasons or bust? No! I like to get what I paid for and what is advertised/represented. My family stayed at PH for 4 nights, thank God we had done 3 inland at a really nice resort. Mind you, we paid for "star class." The 2 star part: *When we arrived we immediately noticed that the resort was carved into the side of a mountain. Walking the resort is not an option. They have carts that come and go frequently to cart you wherever you need, and they did a nice job of this. *When we got to our room, it smelled like mold/mildew- worse than it's supposed to in a tropical place, and the pull out that my kids were supposed to share was beat up and springs popping out. We ended up getting two roll aways for them. The pillow cases on our bed were ripped and there were stains all over them. The pillows themselves looked super used and old. *When we got to the pool area, we immediately noticed that the chairs were disgusting- cushions super faded, stained, and ripping. We got extra towels each day just to cover the gross chairs. Every day we used the pool, we would find at least a couple of tiles that had fallen off. *The beach- it is a black sand beach, which is sort of cool. The chairs are far away from the beach, and camped out, right where you want to lay out is about 4-5 groups of locals trying to sell you stuff. Literally every time we got near the beach we were swarmed by people wanting to give us a massage, sell us an excursion, bracelets or pottery. I have been to many islandy tropical places and usually you'll have people walking up and down the beach, but not camped out. There were more locals on the beach than guests, every single day we were there. I love supporting the locals, but it was really a turn off to visit the beach area. *Dinner reservations- a disaster! This is a common all inclusive problem, so this time I thought that I would be smart and contact concierge a week before our trip to book the dinner reservations, so we wouldn't have issues. Can't book them until you check in. Every person that we talked to, star class or not, had to eat at the buffet every night, or the Tex Mex 3 nights in a row. We got reservations, but mainly because they knew how disappointed we were with our stay. *Lunch- you really only have 2 options- buffet, or Guy's burger joint where you will wait an hour for your food. There was a small trailer type thing in the star class area with a few options. We didn't hang out in that pool area much because it wasn't super great- pool, etc. *Star class service, this was spotty, but generally really good. *We did a snorkel excursion- the snorkeling wasn't great, but they also dropped us off super far from where the good snorkeling was. The catamaran sunset ride was fun though, the crew were super kind and helpful! The parts that made the trip at least tolerable: *The food is actually really good here! I have never had such good all inclusive food before...if you can get into the restaurants! *The pool drink service, especially Andrey!!! He was absolutely amazing, even taking the time to ask me how my margarita tasted because he squeezed some fresh orange into it! We found him on our last day because it was his first day- he's a gem!!!!!! *Tony was our Star Class concierge and he did a really nice job of trying to "fix" the things that were wrong with our stay. He worked so hard and was often very present! The main management did NOTHING for us, no upgrade, no discount, no spa credit- nothing, knowing the issues! Tony was the only one who went above and beyond to try to remedy the situation and we REALLY appreciated him! *The entertainment was just ok. Silent disco is always fun and the foam party at the pool was a blast. If you don't have high expectations and are used to a more 3 star class and get a good deal, you might really like it here. Otherwise, I would check out other options for sure!

    Cabana

Irene was amazing and very attentive. We had all we needed and more. Highly recommend having an experience with her. We had food and alcohol delivered and she took our photos at the end of the day. She was so nice and very friendly. The cabana was the perfect relaxing end to our week.
