Certainly not 5 Star with Family Concierge

We went to this resort as a family of 3, 2 Adults and 1 Child aged 5. It was our first visit to DR but travel extensively. Rooms - The room is large and has plenty of space for a larger family, it is well equipped and serves it purpose. This was a positive experience. Service - This was hit and miss, bar service was slow if used it but we didn't really use it much. Our room was not always made up and we had to chase this on several occasions with our concierge. Likewise we went a few days without having our fridge stocked. These are the basic items that you would expect. Service in the restaurants could be good or bad depending where you were and who served you, not consistent also. Food - this was in our opinion terrible, it was repeat, repeat, repeat. Everything was luke warm with no real options. Mangu was OK but that was about it. Family Concierge - not worth it in our opinion. We were not a demanding family and asked to settle in for our first week without any restaurant bookings. For our last few nights I explained which restaurants we wanted and on what nights, knowing they would be released on the Sunday for the week we gave ample notice prior to this. First ask couldnt be met, second ask we turned up for a 7pm table and not booked in until 9pm. My wife had arranged for the steakhouse for my birthday, apparently it would be decorated and they were providing a cake...nothing not even good service. We had 2 concierge through our stay Thiana and Ricardo. Ricardo was absent and not helpful in any way whatsoever. Pool, Beach and Water Park - staff were good in general and all in easy access to. The main pool and beach was dirty and not reflective of a 5 star resort. Activities - plenty of activities to do through the day, which we used and enjoyed. Would I return...no This is at best a 4 star resort and does not compare to other places we have stayed. Disappointing concept from Melia.

    Amazing stay!

Best time ever we came across Lissette a concierge hands down the best very attentive and sweet she even hung out with our kids while we watched showing them the turtles and getting them balloons in order to keep them calm while our room was worked on. At the pool bar, you will come across Jorge and Pedro y They will even look over your wife or girlfriend while you are gone making jokes and ensuring that no one else tries to pick them up. I would say I will definitely be back not only for the food and service but definitely for the vibe. My kids loved it too. If I could give 10 stars, I would. Also if you get to go to the beach ask for Ivan he will take care of you. Hope you guys use this to book your next stay you won’t regret it.

    Nice hotel. Great people.

Nice hotel with spacious rooms. Even if not new they keep it clean and tidy. Franco was very helpful on the reception. Lots of activities for kids. Quite a few restaurants. Not the beach side but walkable and they have a shuttle. Food mostly the same in the buffet.

    Dominican beautiful…paradisus not quite there!

Dominican Republic is just a slice of paradise! Paradisus however doesn’t quite match up unfortunately. Don’t get me wrong, we had such a fantastic holiday, but there’s many things that aren’t up to scratch with the hotel. Service isn’t always friendly or prompt, they play really loud music from 9.30pm- 11.30pm every night (we became immune to it after a while and slept through most nights!), the food choice is lacklustre at both restaurants and buffet and we didn’t enjoy the a la carte restaurants. The service in the a la cartes were hit and miss, especially Tori being pretty down there- the family sat next to us got up and left after not being served for 20mins!! We had the concierge service (Ricardo) who wasn’t very good, he booked us into the same a la carte twice (tori as above, he knew we didn’t like it), got the date of our excursion wrong so it ruined our plans, and also told us we had a 1pm checkout but the reception called us twice to say we needed to vacate the room- lack of communication in the hotel seemed a common theme! He didn’t meet us on the day we arrived, didn’t show us around or even say bye on the day we left! He only attempted to meet us on the 5th day of our 7 night stay! Couldn’t say he did anything special for us, but he did do some things we asked to his credit. The hotel itself is beautiful as are the rooms, the pools and splash park especially a massive hit! The beach is an absolutely stunning scene and yes there is seaweed but the tractor cleans it up every day but that didn’t bother us. If the food and the service were better we would return, but most likely wouldn’t! Dominican we would definitely visit again though! Also if you’re a vegetarian/vegan there is next to nothing to eat at PUJ airport!

Paradisus Grand Cana - Friendly Staff, Clean, modern and safe

The Grand Cana was new, modern, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We had the concierge service, and our concierge was Ricardo Ceballo. Ricardo made all the difference from taking our stay as a standard vacation to an experience me and my family will remember forever. The resort, the décor, the staff and everything about the Paradisus Grand Cana was amazing. However, Ricardo made our stay feel personalized; his attentiveness, responsiveness and proactiveness allowed me and my family the time to enjoy the resort and all its amenities, instead of taking the time away from family and friends to figure out how things work. Once we asked Ricardo for something, we had peace of mind that either it will get done (like dinner reservations) or he is trying his hardest to make it work. The Paradisus Grand Cana resort overall gets a 9, however, with Ricardo's attentiveness and consideration, the Melia experience definitely deserves a "10"!!! A true 5 Star feel!
