Would recommend for a vacation. Lovely resort. Well maintained and friendly staff. Resort is very close to the ocean and walking distance to downtown Tamarindo great for souvenir shopping!

    Destination wedding

I have been to the Occidental previously and would not had booked again except for the fact that my son chose to have a destination wedding down the road from the location. I quickly became tired of the same food over and over. I ended up spending more money by going out to local restaurants to get a change in menu. The staff are very nice and helpful. The area was clean. I found it to be very expensive for what you received.

Occidental Tamarindo was Just average but in a great location.

We have stayed at other Occidentals and we feel this one was below average compared others. The location is what attracted us to booking here. We feel the hotel could definitely be the shining star of Langosta/Tamarindo area if they stepped up their game. We stayed in the 9000 block which is very central to the main hub of the resort. Pro's -Our room was very clean and kept clean during our stay. -Cleaning staff were polite but very limited English. -General staff around the resort had better than average English skills compared to the Mexican all inclusives. -The location could not be better -And like other reviews say the sunsets we feel cannot be beat. -The property was very well groomed. -A few Howler Monkeys around, lots of Iguana's and bird life everyday. -Very quiet resort. -Seems like most of the visitors are either Canadian or Americans with a few Europeans. -Booking of the a la carte's was easy, of course just a line up when you want to book with the lady. -The buffet was average, fresh fruit and vegetables were above par. -The a la cartes were average. Con's -Smoking is a problem at this resort either on the pool deck and especially down at the beach lounges. There is roving security always walking around but they seem to look away. Which is great for smokers but terrible for non smokers. This would be the main reason we would not return to this resort. -We are beach people and not very often lounge on the pool deck, what we saw alot is locals using the loungers especially on the weekends and every afternoon when there is paying patrons tiring to find a spot looking and again security looked away. -My wife and I have been very fortunate to visit a few resorts through the Caribbean and this area has the most amount of locals dogs and strays hanging around the beach we have ever seen. -The pool snack bar was the lamest we have ever seen with selection and condition of the prepared foods. -The pool deck bar was very understaffed and really not well trained in mixing drinks, nice enough staff but the drinks were definitely weak even when you even request doubles, and one day they even ran out of liquor and beer. In conclusion the resort was average with the potential to be great. But as a couple we probably would not return. Make sure you do alot of reviewing mainly because there is a few all inclusives on the Pacific side that looked very good when we booked but we wanted to see the Tamarindo area and Occidental was the only all inclusive we found.
