The hotel is very good, the service is excellent, Josefina Medina is amazing and the staff is really nice. Really good, the hotel was perfect, and the waiter forced me to write the comment, but everything is good as she said. Breakfast is amazing and the waiter is nice

We are not very demanding travelers and after reading many reviews, and knowing it is not a top notch resort decided to give it a try. Unfortunately the trip proved to be disappointing and we will not return for 4 reasons: 1 - LACK OF CHAIRS -beach and pools 2 - LACK OF CHAIRS -beach and pools 3 - Poor quality buffet restaurant 4 -Poor entertainment In our over 30 trips to Dominican Republic we experienced shortage of chairs situations few times and the "towel games" too. However, this resort was the worst of them all. If you did not go to the beach before 7 am you had no chance of getting a chair. Pools were a bit better but not by much. We only secured 2 chairs on the beach once, and only because it was a rainy day. We did not come on vacation to wake up at 6 am. We usually managed to find places at the pool, but we came to a beach resort, and if we wanted only pool, we could have gone somewhere else at the lower price. A lot of complains about lack of shade are true, but this is a minor issue comparing to lack of chairs. The food in the buffet restaurant was basic and cold even just after opening time. Lacked basic items like plain yogurt, some variety of cereals. Some meats and fish were undercooked. Yes, you can always find something edible and will not starve, unless you have severe dietary restrictions. The layout of restaurant is ill designed, there is no logical flow and place becomes chaotic. Service has a lot to be desired. And for some strange reason there is no salt or pepper on the tables. You need to ask for it, but often by the time it arrives you are finished eating. Entertainment is kind of boring during the day, and the animation crew not very enthusiastic. The schedule is not always followed or things suddenly happen without any announcement (typical "Dominican thing", so no surprise here). Most of the day there is no music throughout the grounds and lobby. Half of the week the evening entertainment is a guest participation type like "Battle of the sexes", "Karaoke", "Ideal couple", or so called "Beach party". The live music with a singer or live band happens, but only some of the evenings and last only 1/2 hour. It is a shame, because hotel grounds are well kept, the resort has great layout and perfect size and beach is beautiful. The lobby with the bar is great too, and could easily become lively hangout spot for the evenings. There is a lot of potential here, but currently not realized. We did not let all the negatives get to us and still had a good vacation. Weather, despite short rain basically every day, playing with waves and long walks on the beach were the highlight of this trip. Unfortunately, will not return to this resort.

Occidental, not for foodies
If you’re a foodie, this ain’t for you. It’s expected that the food won’t be amazing. The beaches are amazing but the thing that really annoyed me was the service. No smiling, they didn’t serve us because we were young and were only 2. It made me feel like I wasn’t good enough for the resort.

Occidental Punta Cana
Excellent resort. Josefina was awesome, waiting on us while we spent the day at the beach!! She is the best!!! Beautiful weather and beach. Great pools. This was our first time visiting Punta Cana with friends and will return. Wr had an amazing time!

the food was not that great. They would run our of rum . The grounds of the resort are beautiful . Only 1 pool you can actually swim/float tin. all the rest are too shallow
