Royal level all the way!!
Royal level is definitely worth the extra money! From the minute you arrive, you feel the Royal difference! The foood at the royal restaurant was far better than buffet and never any waiting! The privacy and quiet is amazing! Jenry, the Royal level manager is amazing and very accommodating! All of the Royal staff are very friend land helpful!

Look no further!
This our experience for the Royal Level at the Occidental Puna Cana. If you are looking for the best beach, friendly staff, great food, beautiful rooms, pool and beach bar - you found your vacation getaway. The staff are amazingly. Call-outs to Jeffery the pool guy, to Willie the beach bar bartender, to Hippo, Wendy, Victor, Katherine at the Royal restaurant and to Jenry at the Royal Check-In - you are wonderful at what you do and are great ambassadors for the resort!

Okey but a bit disappointing
I expected more from this resort since the hotel is describing itself as "where experience turns into unforgettable memories". Hmmm the downsides will be more remembered than the upsides... Service: 2/5 The staff in the restaurants look tired, unhappy and uninterested and it would sometimes take 20 minutes before you got attended and could have your drink. There were some staff that was great and friendly but they were the minority. And the tipping.... I come from a country where we only tip if its very very good service above expectations. I think its is horrible to see people waving their dollar bills to get service. The service should be equal even without loads of tip since everyone there has payed thousands of dollars to come to stay and get the all inclusive. And the piles of dollar bills on the counters in the restaurants next to the stoves were not very hygenic or nice. It made me feel uncomfortable. Food: 3/5 The buffet was mostly very good. A variety of food and fresh vegetables and fruits. The other restaurants where you have to book was nothing special, we went to the seafood restaurant and the mexican. Overall uneven quality. Breakfast was good though. Facilities: 4/5 Nice rooms, nice pools, enough sun beds, beach is beautiful and the water is nice. In the cost of Punta Cana there is motsly windy so large waves and not so clear water to expect. The main thing bringing the rating down is the poor service. You can do better Occidental!

Long review.
We recently stayed for a week 3/1-3/8. We thought we safe from spring break. We were not. We booked Royal level and we're told we were upgraded to oceanfront rooms in building 13 right across from the beach. We did not know it was right across from the beach where student city was set up. We had more than one occasion where the music was so loud it was shaking the windows. I will add here (in case management responds to this review by saying to please stay again to give us a chance to make things right), we did speak with guest services and to the people at Royal and we're told someone would be in contact with us. This, in fact, did not happen. We felt the whole week that the students received the premier type experience while other guests were not. It is a very small property without a lot of amenities. There is a spa and nightly entertainment. The massage I had was very good. The ala cartes and the buffet had bland overcooked food. The service with the exception of one area in the buffet was not good. No water, poor drink service, and we had to consistently ask for things. Easy things like our next course, water refills. Forget ordering a drink because there is only beer, challenging wine and soda in the restaurants. Housekeeping was amazing throughout the entire stay. The best we've had at any all inclusive. Clean rooms, stocked mini fridge with beverages of choice and towel replacements at the end of the day. The Royal area of the beach was nice. It was policed so other people were not using it or removing chairs. There is a bar dedicated to that area that was nice. Frozen drinks were not good. They use a pulverizer so the drinks end up like foam. I was hoping for more of a slushy consistency and did ask one time but they really couldn't do it with that type of blender. They did try! We ended up eating most meals at the Royal restaurant which was for the most part, pretty good. The Royal pool area was nice to be able to use. Lots of vendors on the beach and the water was pretty wave filled. Some undertow so maybe not for young kids or weak swimmers. Beautiful views of the water and deep sand. We would not return but we did have a decent time. Long review because I like to read details of other people's stays.

Shortages and Management Did Not Care
Chronic shortages like Pepperoni and the pizza station for days, the pool bar ran out of beer and vodka later in the afternoon and did not replenish it. never pepper on the table. Returned many days to our room late in the afternoon to find our room cleaned but no towels, Management was not concerned or available
