Highly recommend this resort! Staff are amazing and friendly and helpful! Services are too notch. It was our second time to this resort and we’ll go back for a third!

We were here for a 60th birthday, girls week. It is an older, fairly small resort but very clean. Great beach, great location. Mall, Starbucks & grocery store across the street. Hospital just a block away. Good room & updated bathroom. We downgraded from a fourth floor ocean view balcony (excellent) in favor of a less fancy ground floor room so my elderly mom could have access the shady porch & not have to take the elevator & walk long hallways. Our room cleaner, Sobreida, for 110 & 109, Oct 9-19/2024 was very kind & efficient. Room 109/110 is a "short" distance from the pool & buffet. Another person fills the mini bar with water & they could have been more generous with the water bottles & diet Pepsi. I'm sure she was following the rules. I left a note in spanish asking for extra Diet Pepsi & less beer! Diet Pepsi is the only sugar free pop available, other than club soda THE FOOD WAS AMAZING IN THE BUFFET!!! We wished the lounge bar was open early in the day so we could have cappuccinos in the morning. The entire pool area needs a refresh as do the chaise loungers. The chaise & matching tables all need a good scrub or replacing. There are only three pools, all very close together so there is not a quiet pool to escape to. Even the Royal section pool is right next to the activity pool & kids pool. Our biggest complaint was that the music was very, very LOUD & endless at the pool. The guests were not listening , in fact they had to yell to be heard in the pool. No one was dancing, there are also private guests playing different music on the beach & that competes so TURN. IT. DOWN. PLEASE!!! Or play a quieter selection. Angel, our pool server is amazing, so sweet & kind to us, so welcoming. Sadly there is no bar server on the beach...perhaps because it's low season. Paula (sp?) at the concierge desk & the gentleman (Francis??) at reception, who has been here for three years, are very helpful. We needed the battery in the safe changed, a foam pad for one of the beds & the patio door lock fixed & Paula got that all fixed very quickly. The gentlemen who do the maintenance on the safe & door are very kind. The wifi is pretty good throughout the resort. The entire pool area could use a refresh. The pool & beach lounge chairs & small tables need a good cleaning or replacement. We sure wish the music could be turned down by the pool, it was waaaaay too loud. Later on the entertainment staff would start yelling Bingo numbers over the sound system, again waaaay too loud. Families in the pool could not hear their kids. We couldn't wait for 5pm to come, that's when the music ended. We always felt it just needed to be turned down so people could have conversations in & around the pool.. We repeatedly asked for that but never got any response from the entertainment staff. They were understanding but didn't or couldn't do anything. They were the only staff who weren't super helpful, everyone including the bartenders & waitstaff & Sr. staff in the buffet & specialty dining rooms went out of their way to be kind & helpful. Best beach view.
Occidental has the best beach view. Relatively quiet pool. Plenty of loungers. Great towel service. Most rooms have a beautiful view. Get a deluxe ocean view with balcony.. No need to go Royale. Super restaurants - reserve at 9.00 am up to 3 days ahead (included). Beautiful sunsets.

Occidental Puerto Vallarta Review
Fernanda and Lourdes did an excellent job with my massage and facial in the spa. The beach and pool areas are breathtaking. The rooms are dated and could use some renovations, but they are clean. Upgrading to the Royal level was worth it. Otherwise, we wouldn't have enjoyed the resort as much. Antonio was very welcoming and friendly, but some of the other desk staff weren't as friendly.
