Not the best
Review of Occidental Costa Cancun I recently stayed at the Occidental Costa Cancun for four days and three nights in November 2024, and while the experience had its positives, there were definitely some drawbacks that stood out. First, the hotel grounds were truly beautiful. The landscaping was lush and well-maintained, and it was clear that the staff worked hard to keep everything clean and inviting. Throughout my stay, I noticed employees constantly tidying the common areas, which added to the overall pleasant atmosphere. The beach, however, was a disappointment. It’s small and doesn’t have the stunning turquoise waters you might expect when visiting Cancun. If a picture-perfect beach is a top priority for your trip, this resort might not meet your expectations. Unfortunately, the food was a major letdown. Most meals were below average, and it didn’t help that the hotel had limited availability for dinner reservations. Despite checking in early and trying to secure a spot, we weren’t able to dine at one of their specialty restaurants until our final night. To make matters worse, it seems the hotel alternates which restaurants are open, further restricting options. The drinks were another disappointment. While I appreciated the effort to offer a variety of cocktails, the alcohol seemed watered down. I sipped on dirty martinis for most of the trip, but I never felt even slightly buzzed—a surprising and frustrating experience. If you’re looking for an inexpensive, no-frills hotel with beautiful grounds, this could be an option for you. However, if you’re hoping for quality food, better beach access, and a more authentic Cancun experience, I’d recommend choosing another resort.

Okay location
The hotel was very well maintained and the staff were very friendly. The location was not the best, and I would say it’s due the beach is being washed away and not the blue and green water you imagine coming to Mexico. The only thing I didn’t like was that the hotel made us wait until 3 for check-in. I’ve been to Cancun multiple times and the flights usually get in around 10/11am and we are at the hotel no later than noon, and we are always given our room assignments within the hour. Also, I specifically requested a high room location for the ocean view but got the second floor with an obstructed view from the palm trees. Other than that the stay and my trip was amazing.

Great experience
Smaller resort but very affordable. Can’t beat the price and the value is amazing. Staff is helpful. Breakfast buffet is plentiful, waiters especially Vanilly Cabrera, went above and beyond to make sure you had a wonderful experience. Had my drinks ready to go upon my arrival. Thank you!
