Hotel is run down but Staff was amazing!
Okay, so upon arrival I instantly regretting booking this hotel. I had reserved a room with two beds and we received a king with no chance of changing it. The resort is situated next to a marina with tons of boats coming and going in the early hours, and into the evening, and basically all day. The beach area is SUPER small. The hotel is very outdated, dingy and smells musty. I paid $80 USD for 2 bottles of Sunscreen! After the initial night I actually called Apple Vacations and tried to get moved to a different resort. Food choices were lacking as well - and with allergies that can be pretty discouraging. I ended up speaking with one of the restaurant Sous Chefs and she hooked us up with a Gluten Free menu which helped ALOT. The staff is amazing at this resort and really took care of us. They even had a Superbowl party and snacks and played the game on a huge projector near the pool. So yes, it wasn't up to standards in certain areas but the staff and their attentiveness made up for what was lacking for sure! If you are looking for a quite beach retreat, stay out of the Cancun hotel district for sure!

The staff makes it a great hôtel
When we arrives the lady at the desk was not really nice and did not feel welcome so I wasn’t sure about my choice of hotel… but all the other staffs were VERY nice and helpfull. I have to give a 5 stars for two of the buffet staff Alberto Gill was welcoming and so much fun to chat with 😁 and the pizza cook had always a huge smile! We got 2 connecting rooms, they are nice and spacious and clean. The Hamac on the balcony is a fun touch. Food at the buffet was good, i wish they had more tacos! We were there 8 nights and only had tacos twice. The beach is not great, but also not crowded wich is good. For me it was not a deal breaker, but the Gasoline smell from the hôtel jet ski did botter me alot. Next to the hôtel you can take the ferry to one magnificent beach but it’s overcrowded, a must see in my opinion. Animation is good, everything night something different, karaoke night was awfull to listen to even from the room, but this is not the hotel fault. The animation team at the pool and beach was fun. Overall it’s a good hôtel for the price mostly because the staff is very nice.

Chill, cheap vacation spot with options for fun
We loved staying at Occidental Costa Cancún! The staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, safe, and fun. The buffet food is great (vegetarian friendly), and we loved our servers Vanilly, Alfredo, and the hostess Maria Jose. There are many activities every day throughout the day and night, giving you endless entertainment. There was no need to ever leave the resort, but there are people on property that can help you with going wherever you want to go (promoters + activity people). The entertainment crew including Gio and Laura were so high energy and engaging. We loved our daily zumba dance classes! The drinks are great, and there are options for everyone. All of the bartenders were very quick and kind, especially Lucio at the beach bar. The barcelo drink was a group favorite! Each night the staff sets up a stage with a show (Michael Jackson, magician, dance party, etc.) which kept us busy and made the nights very enjoyable. As a group of young women, we felt safe at this resort. The resort is definitely kid friendly as well. There are plenty of chairs at both the beach and pool for whichever you prefer! Rooms themselves were standard, good for sleeping and showering, but otherwise we didn't spend much time in the room. Overall, we would recommend this resort to anyone looking to have a relaxing vacation with some fun resort activities for a good price.

Occidental Costa Cancun week stay in Feb 2025
Great one week stay with a great price. Very clean resort. Check in and check out was very efficient. Room was very nice with a comfortable bed and great air conditioning. Hot water with good pressure. The food was very good. Enjoyed all three a la carte restaurants. Pool, only one but large , clean with lots of chairs. Good music and poolside entertainment. Many families with children enjoying the pool. The beach was small, not very deep or wide, with plenty of chairs. Ferry boats and catamaran tours situated close to the beach. Walking 3-4 km north daily, this beach was very similar for the area going north. Would stay here again. Had a great time. The price was right.
