Bad value for money
Just checked in and we are already upset that we took 10 days in this only hotel. 😟 “Premium” room is extremely outdated. When we just entered, terrible chlorine smell stuck the nose. I’m asthmatic and I’m not sure if I can survive in this room. It’s a mix of mold and the chlorine and humidity. Safe box works 1 time out of 5. It’s working but you need to spend like 5-7 minutes to close it. The door and the window don’t look reliable so not closing the safe is not an option. Drawers are not closing because they are humid and wood became too thick. We asked at the reception to do something with it, they sent someone, who just sprayed perfume everywhere on the floor. Still I don’t get what’s premium in this room on the ground floor.. Toilet upon arrival has some hair on it.. Visited buffet for the first dinner , the choice is upsetting. Fruits are so unripe… even watermelons, they are not red, but almost white… Value for money is really bad. No way it can cost 400 USD/night or more.. I would say decent price for this outdated place is 200-250..

2nd time visiting and won't be returning
We had travelled to Melia in March 2023 and had a fantastic time....we decided to go for Christmas this year and it was a let down. Rooms overall were pretty good. We were in building 1-room 0112 which is super close to the buffet, pools and beach. AC worked well, TV was fuzzy ( not something we complained about but for the price of the place I expected better) Bathroom was clean but it's showing it's wear and tear. Housekeepers were AMAZING Food-way below par from the last time. Not sure if it was because we went at Christmas..maybe less staff? But the food was pretty questionable. I will preface...you will always find something to eat but I expected more. My husband also got sick-nausea etc and after travelling to multiple countries included DR, Mexico, Barbados, St. Lucia etc. this is the first time he has experienced that. He was not the only one...LOTS of people were buying Pepto at the store. TIP: bring your own as a precaution. It's $25USD for a bottle there. Fortunately it was over in less than 48 hrs. ( no he didn't drink the water and we brushed our teeth with bottled water) I suspect it was the food-flies were around a lot of the food at the beach level restaurant. Vietnamese restaurant however was excellent-well cooked, hot food with excellent service. Beach-a bit seaweedy but it's nature and no one can help that. Word of caution- we left our towels and books on the chairs and when we got back from breakfast they were gone-guest services said they would look for our bag and book but honestly there isn't much they can do and lesson learned-don't leave anything unattended. Staff-Guest services-super nice and helpful Front desk-friendly and quick The manager at Serependipity is annoying...he thinks he's being fun with his "Oh Canada!!" singing but he's trying to upsell the "special dinner' and if you lie and tell him you're leaving the next day he has zero time for you lol. As many say here...grounds are well kept and pretty. Overall I wouldn't recommend here unless you got an amazing deal -there are other places in DR that would be better IMO like TRS or Serenade.

Melia
Melia is a billion dollar company and can do way better. The staff work hard and are excellent. The food over Christmas was amazing however I suspect that would never be the standard most visits.

Beautiful beach resort
We loved our stay at the Melia in Punta Cana. The resort is beautiful — well-manicured and lush gardens, gorgeous stretch of beach, and a clean and calming spa with hydrotherapy features. Other highlights include the Quimera building with its Rooftop Bar and open-air view, and featuring a Wellness level that always kept a well-stocked supply of food and drinks on hand. The Barefoot restaurant, which was right by the water and also open air was also a delight. What really made our stay special was the friendly and helpful staff. Our concierge tag-team Maxwell and Jorge were extremely helpful in making sure we had everything we needed and more! Everyone we came into contact was cheerful and would go out of their way to help. Stand-outs include Daniel, who helped us with our luggage and would continue to drop by to say hello throughout our visit; Andy, our server at Muoi, the Vietnamese restaurant, Elena, another server on the Wellness level of the Quimera building, and Rayna, the bartender at the Rooftop Bar. A shout-out, too, to the bartender at the Calathea beachfront bar for his pina coladas and ice water!

Wonderful
My family and I took a vacation here over the Christmas period and had a fantastic time. We all opted to partake in "The Level" and my partner and I opted for the "Stay Well" option. The service was consistenly excellent, notably our consierge, Jenfry, made a substantial difference in the quality of our stay. He enabled us to book everything that we wanted to (meals, massages, etc.) from the comfort of the beach with a single message. The resort is clean and well-kept with a beautiful variety of flora and fauna. The location is a short 30 minute ride from the airport and the Punta Cana/Bavaro beach area is one of my most preferred in the Dominican Republic. I would highly recommend the resort!
