    Won’t go back!!!

Stayed at Iberostar Pariso Lindo January 19-27 2025 with friends. To say I was disappointed in an understatement. We had stayed at this resort several years ago and loved it. This visit we upgraded to a junior suite. The room we were given was at the very back of the resort overlooking a marshy bunch of tree roots. It was marshy, dark and ugly. The furniture was dated and minimal. There was a hot tub on the patio but there was no way we would go out there. We asked repeatedly to be moved due to the lack of air circulation and humidity but it fell on deaf ears. The worst part of the experience were the “coaties” and other rat like animals wandering around the resort. We were told they were harmless but they would jump up on beach chairs steal food and generally be a nuisance!! They were everywhere and very upsetting!!! The food at this resort was your average AI fare. Nothing special. Westjet vacations and the Iberostar resorts have dropped several notches for us!!! T

Avoid the Membership Sales Pitch and any "Freebies"

This is an honest and balanced review that reflects some great stuff about Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya Suites and some not so great stuff. If this review was based purely on the hotel itself (rooms, pool, amenities, and food/drinks) I would have given it 5 stars. However, we had a very unfortunate experience with the hotel/spa staff that really marred the overall experience and essentially ruined our last day and a half. So, I am giving them 3 stars, which seems fair. Iberostar has a membership sales program and, like other similar programs, if you are willing to have someone walk you through it, they will reward with some free swag - in our case, they offered us free massages (normally $440 USD for the two of us). I have no comment on the membership program. We were not interested but I am sure others probably love it. The shenanigans started when we tried to claim our massages. The concierge at the hotel booked the massages, gave us two massage vouchers, and we arrived at the spa at our allotted time. When we got there, a spa staff member told us that the massage had been booked "incorrectly" – after a discussion it became apparent that they seem to have one caliber of massage for paying clients and some lower caliber of massage for people with vouchers. This alone is bit icky but I got over that fairly quickly. The concierge had apparently mistakenly booked us as though we were paying clients. Anyways, the staff said that this wouldn't work and that if we wanted the massages, we would have to pay $440 USD. I told her thanks anyways and that we would pass. Then she tells me that there is a cancellation fee of $200 USD and it would have to be billed to our room. I clarified that the hotel had offered us free massages, that the concierge booked the appointment, and that any administrative issues are between Iberostar's hotel and Iberostar's spa – KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS ALL PART OF THE SAME HOTEL!!! Oh, and at one point, they also suggested that we go ahead with the massages, have them charged to the room, and then they would issue us with "Iberostar Bucks" (more coupons), which we could use to pay the room charge. Not wanting to potentially dig ourselves in deeper, I declined their offer to charge $440 USD to our room. Anyways, after a whole bunch of back and forth between the spa staff, spa manager, and concierge, with a whole bunch waiting and phone calls, they eventually caved and told us not worry, it will not be charged to our room. I clarified this 3 times with the spa manager. So, we walked out without any massages and figured it was dealt with. The next morning (our last day), my wife had to do something at the front desk and, just to be safe, asked about any room charges. Guess what? Sure enough, the massage cancellation fees were charged to our room - $200 USD!! They literally LIED TO OUR FACES when they said they would not charge us. It took 2 hours to get them to finally remove that charge and only after more discussions, more talks with managers, getting Iberostar Bucks (and having to get new ones because the first ones had “mistakes”), applying those bucks to the account, etc. It was a bloody awful experience. The entire time I was going through it, it felt like a scam… It felt like they were running down the clock and making us jump through hoop after hoop in the hope that we would give up and just pay the charge. It is a real shame because until this point, we had had a great time. But the lack of accountability, lying and games really took the shine off our experience. Anyways, learn from my mistake... IF ANYONE AT THIS HOTEL APPROACHES YOU ABOUT MEMBERSHIP SALES PITCHES AND “FREEBIES”, DECLINE AND RUN BACK TO THE POOL AS QUICKLY AS YOUR LEGS WILL CARRY YOU.

    Always a great time!

We travel to Mexico 2-3 times every winter, and we have been staying at Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya for many, many years (20 or so times). We like Maya because it gives you access to the other 3 Iberostar resorts (Lindo, del Mar and Beach). We have been to numerous resorts throughout the Riveria Maya, but Iberostar Paraiso Maya has become our favorite over the years. We have gone with family, with grandkids, with friends….and just the two of us. There is something for everyone, and it is always a fun time. Even when we have stayed at Iberostar Grand (adults only) next door, we find ourselves venturing over to the Maya for dinner, and to see old friends. Rooms: The suites are nicely sized, comfortable beds, plenty of closet/drawer space. Lunch: You won’t go hungry. A couple of buffet options in Maya/Lindo, snack shack on the beach and burger/tacos at pool. Not to mention ice cream! Restaurants: are attractively decorated with their themes, and the food never disappoints. Our favorites are El Rancho Steakhouse, Olivetti (Italian), L’Etoile (French), and La Marina. And the long-term staff make it feel like home when we return. Karla Rodrigues has been a blessing over the years. Can’t say enough about all she has done to help make our stays pleasant….even when trying to organize a large group of our family members. She always makes it a point to greet us by name with her friendly smile. Iberostar must be a pleasant place to work as so many of the staff have been there for years. Jose and Ruddie in “the snake bar”, Pablo at the “bridge bar”…just to name a few of our favorites. We often see them greet others as they greet us…..so it is obvious Iberostar has a lot of repeat customers. We were just there in January, and we are returning with friends in February. Once again looking forward to all Iberostar has to offer…..the beach, pools, restaurants, great staff, lazy time. Need we say more….?

    Very disappointing

We were lied to. Our welcome concierge pressured us into a breakfast, told us that we could get 2 free massages because it was our first time at Iberostar and they wanted us to recommend it to others. I asked 3 times if we had to go to a sales presentation and was assured no. We were picked up the next morning and taken to a 2.5 hour sales presentation. After we said no to the club, we were ignored for the rest of our 6 day vacation. I am very open minded and love traveling and would never stay at Iberostar again. Pros: Beach is beautiful Housekeeping was fantastic Cons: Couch in the room was not a pullout as advertised. We paid more for a suite because we wanted an extra sleeping area and didn’t get it Room service menu is sooo limited App crashes nonstop Food is not labeled well (I had a severe allergic reaction to pasta that must have had a nut based sauce) You can never ever get chairs at the pool or beach because everyone puts their towels down at 7 am and reserves them all day!!!! Never saw employees kick people out. Super disappointed in our resort choice. Don’t pay attention to the management’s response—they only care about club members. Wish we could get a refund for our family’s one big vacation of the year that we worked super hard to pay for.

    Very nice resort

We just got back from a week at this resort. We were worried about getting a stomach bug as many had wrote a review about it but luckily none of us got sick, traveled with my husband and 2 small kids. We did pack a case of our own water as we didn’t want to drink the filtered water that is provided there. We also stayed away from salad and fruits although everything looked really good. Pack your own floats and bring steel straws if you don’t want to drink out of the cups. Grounds are very clean and taken care of, our room was spacious and clean. Housekeeping did a very good job. Staff very friendly. Food is good not great. My 1 year old did get a fever that turned into hand and foot disease while we were there but she could have caught that at the airport or plane, not necessarily from the resort but who knows. Just make sure to always wash your hands especially when traveling with small kids. Overall we were satisfied with this resort and had a great time. One of the highlights was the foam party on Saturday at the pool, it was exciting for both adults and the kids. Fire show was also nice on the beach. Hard working staff!
