NOTHING SPECIAL - TOO EXPENSIVE - BAD FOOD
I would not recommend this place. It is expensive, and you may end up with a large bill at the end. The management was unhelpful when our credit card was stolen, and they removed our benefits for not using an American Express. The hotel feels outdated and below average. If you do stay, consider a shorter visit and look for a nicer option. The food is disappointing, but the service is decent. If you're looking for a very average hotel, this is it. On the plus side, the pool area is spacious, with three pools available.

Wanted to give it more stars - also please read if you have dietary concerns.
Prefacing this by stating that I used to only stay at Hyatt resorts for vacations, then because of cost we switched to VRBO, and for this trip we cashed in points and returned to the Hyatt Maui (4th time since 1992). If you are the type that loves a big fancy resort and all the big fancy things, this review is not for you. I just can't stand behind the costs for these places anymore - I don't see the value. Our room, if we hadn't used points, would have been $950 per night. One tiny room, facing the ocean but at the level of the massive roof covering the common lobby areas. I think the furniture was probably there the first time we stayed there. bathrooms are updated, lighting is updated, beds are high quality, AC was quiet, rooms very clean, towels and toiletries are high quality. resort grounds are pretty, but there is no space outside besides the pool deck. NONE. the other properties down the beach have grassy lawns for playing bags, catch, kids chasing each other, or for lounge chairs facing the beach. at the hyatt, it's only the pool. the pool was 90 degrees, the ocean is refreshing. We did not use the spa at all, the gym is serviceable but feels like a gym at an airport hyatt. it's buried below the building, so not much view out to the OCEAN, that is about 20' from the door. maybe if you're using the full gamut of their services, this is for you, but I just don't care about the shops or concierge or spa or whatever. it's really a shame to not leave a good review, I really wanted to! my final complaint is the food - it's horrendously expensive like all resort food - but they offer NO DIETARY CONSIDERATIONS at all. the 'vegan menu' items I ordered, even a salad, came covered in fresh slivered parmesan cheese, the taro burger had cheddar cheese and a bun soaked in butter, the fries are not vegan, and the regency club would not accommodate any non-meat proteins. if you need to avoid anything from milk to gluten to egg, I would not trust anything served. Again, I'm really bummed to leave a so-so review, as lifetime Hyatt guests and longtime loyalty program members. I would not be this critical if it was a Hyatt Place or whatever, but I have felt those properties were worth the cost, this was not even close. Our family will be sticking to VRBO for vacations from now on. I could have stayed in a 2-bedroom condo with a kitchen, beach access, and maybe even a 3rd bedroom, on the same beach for the same cost.

Enjoy Paradise!
We had an exceptional experience at Hyatt Maui Resort. The staff was amazing, always smiling and helpful. We saw countless whales from our oceanfront lanai. The pool was open and packed every day. Loved the available beach chairs to check out, great swimming and snorkeling and turtles in front of the Lahaina tower. Highly recommend the breakfast buffet, poolside bar and Japengo

Wonderful Family Vacation
We had yet another fantastic Hyatt stay! The hotel is beautiful, the staff was AMAZING, and we enjoyed the three pools (and water slides!) every day we were there. The process for getting and returning towels was simple, and we had no issues finding poolside space, even during peak times. Our room was clean and fresh, and the in-room products smelled great. We were also upgraded to an ocean view (thank you!) - which had a fantastic view. There is nothing quite like a Hawaii sunset. The Regency Club was also wonderful - especially for traveling with young kids -- allowing us to enjoy early, casual, meals every morning and night. My kids loved the pancakes and crepes in the morning; I loved the fruit and croissants. And there was a variety of hardy appetizer-type fare in the evenings - dumplings, meatballs, veggies and dip, bread, cheese, salad, desserts, etc. The Kaanapali location was fantastic, with easy access to Lahaina, the beach right outside, a paved boardwalk for walks, shopping, and dining. The poolside beverages were tasty and easy to order. The only two "misses" were our in-room internet disconnected often, and it was a little annoying to have to sign-in repeatedly (especially since we had to repeatedly do it for each of our kids' tablets!). We also thought the luau was average. The food was excellent, and the performances were good, but there was a lot of downtime, and it was not as intimate as some other luaus we have attended (first world problems!). We can't wait to come back to Maui!

A Gorgeous Resort at a Gorgeous Oceanfront Spot
The pros are all of the most important things: the ocean views (we saw whales from our room!), customer service, hotel amenities, room design and cleanliness. The employees are extra accommodating - the valets are very helpful if you have a car, and the front desk staff provides a ton of little hacks for your total enjoyment. I loved that my room had a fridge, a coffeemaker AND a tea kettle! The bathroom is gorgeous and now I’m wishing I’d purchased one of the bathrobes. As a vegan, it’s always a challenge to get a good meal, but my compliments to the chef at the steakhouse - when I asked, they delivered a vegan pasta dish that was fantastically delicious! Overall, the hotel room rate is well worth it! The cons are mostly things that can’t really be helped. The oceanfront rooms overlook the restaurants and the large main pool so you get all of the sounds and smells in your room. I was there during spring break and the hotel was full of families with kids which is less than ideal if you’re an adult who loves being in a pool. The upside was that the pool at Hyatt Vacation Club next door is accessible, delightful, and has more shady spots than the main pool. Two opportunities for improvement: 1. Offer yoga 7 days a week. We were there Thursday-Sunday and were disappointed that there were no yoga classes on the weekend. 2. Send all of the wild birds to a sanctuary (or host one!) It’s 2025 - we all know better than to exploit animals for the entertainment of screaming children. It puts the animals under enormous stress with nowhere to escape to if they get overwhelmed. Major thanks to all of the employees - to a person, helpful and professional.
