Get the Diamond Club!
The hotel is beautiful and our room was amazing. The Diamond Club upgrade was definitely worth it!! Our butler team (Ulises and Alfredo) went above and beyond to make our experience one that we will never forget. Thank you to the Royalton hotel and staff for an amazing time!! The only downside I would say is that the customer service outside of the Diamond Club areas was not great. If you're going to go and want a nice experience, spend the the money for Diamond Club.

Nice family resort but needs an upgrade.
Nice family resort but it's time for an update! Overall this resort was great - the kids splash pad/slides were fantastic and a lot of fun for our toddlers. The kids club was OK - there aren't many toys to play with (there is a nice ball pit with a slide) but they did offer activities throughout the day which were fun. We stayed in the one room presidential corner suite and the room size was great and the swim up pool was nice. The room itself needed an upgrade - the furniture was old and stained, the walls were damaged, etc. The bathrooms need a refresh as well...most of them had broken toilet seats, constantly out of toilet paper and the one by Agave/Hunter restaurants was particularly gross, especially towards the end of the day. Now the food - the buffet is one of the best ones I've tried at an all inclusive. There are plenty of options and there's a kids corner with typical kid favorites. The restaurants were average but the the breakfast at Agave was very good! If you want to go to the steakhouse, Hunters, you need to make a reservation the second you get there as we tried to do so the day after we came and it was booked for the entire week (it was Christmas week so perhaps that's why). The gelateria was decent but it's so tiny and get's extremely crowded. The service was OK. We had a lot of confusion with our butler...the day shift one was perfectly fine but the PM one took forever to respond to messages and at times gave us a hard time about dinner reservations. We also had an incident were the safe got stuck the morning of our departure and we needed it opened ASAP and the butler wasn't helpful at all and not responsive.

Isolated luxury
Large hotel, spotlessly clean with lots of pools and restaurants. Swimming pools are large but shallow so you need to swim before 10am otherwise they are crowded with with people from the other side of the Gulf of Mexico standing with their drinks coolers. Restaurants are good but you need to book. Second thing to do in the morning after putting on the filter coffee maker was to book the following days restaurant of choice. The Coffee Bar had queues at times but it was worth the wait. Red wine in the bars and restaurants was perfectly acceptable 'screw top' Spanish, so we usually had Merlot with lunch and Cabernet Sauvignon in the evening. We paid a bargain price for the weeks holiday so did not object when we found out the 'laundry block' blotted our view of the sunsets. It was good to have a room facing the mangroves as it was very peaceful sitting on the balcony watching the wildlife. Another disappointment was there was nowhere to walk besides the beach. That was hard work because of a choice of Sargassum weed or very soft sand. The long feeder road to the hotel had no pavement, no shade, but vicious speed bumps. I would not recommend this hotel to the independent traveller, our tour company had a limit on the age of its snorkeling trip and I exceeded the limit by 18 years. Probably the best hotel I have ever been in if you just want a holiday.

An honest review!
We had a wonderful time at the Royalton Riviera Cancun staying for one week over spring break! Traveling was my husband, myself, and our 17 year old son. We were not Diamond Club. Our check-in was a breeze. Apon arriving at 4pm our bell man took our bags and gave us a numbered ticket to retrieve them after we were checked in. Next, a Royalton staff member offered us drinks and asked what we would like to try. She came back quickly with margaritas. Before we could finish our drinks, we were checked in, had claimed our luggage, and were taken by a bell man up to our room. We had reserved a Luxury Family Suite with an ocean view. We truly did not have even a partial ocean view, but we're so excited to be there that we didn't mind our pool view. If we were to come back, we would definitely choose a swim up room, rather than pay extra for a view that wasn't an ocean view. Our room had a very spacious bathroom with a huge jacuzzi tub. Our teen had a long bath every night ( probably to get away from his parents), and the jacuzzi worked perfectly. Our room was nice enough, the bed was comfortable, there were different pillow choices and the room was specious. There was some wear and tear on parts of our room. We have stayed all over Mexico, and this is fairly common. The humidity and sea air are never kind to mirrors, and wood, etc. I have read that The Royalton will be going through an upgrade soon. We'd love to come back to see it afterward. Our safe didn't work at first, but after placing a maintenance call, someone fixed it immediately. There was lots of drawer space and plenty of room for all of us. Our mini bar was restocked daily. Our room was cleaned very well daily. We did find that our towels wouldn't dry due to the humidity, so we were calling for extra towels before bedtime. Our towels always came promptly. Housekeeping staff were always lovely! We did book an alacarte at The Mexican restaurant one evening. Our waiter Jorge was absolutely wonderful! He was very attentive, very funny and we almost didn't want to leave him. He gave exceptional service! The food portions were immense and so delicious! Other than the one alacarte, we ate at the buffet daily, by choice...and mostly because we were having so much fun that we would forget to make reservations. There was something for all of us! Our food was always fresh with a great selection. There is a pasta bar, a fresh grill for meat, an omlette bar, and again, wonderfully attentive staff at every meal. Staff who stood out to our family were Jaro and Roberto! They would joke with us and were always checking on us. There was a line up in the mornings for breakfast, but we would go to the mimosa bar in front of the buffet and were happy to have either a strawberry, pineapple, mango, orange or fig mimosa while we waited. Every line at this resort from bars, swim up bars, snack shack, buffet lines, or the coffee bar line-up went extremely fast. I will say that we were there during spring break when the hotel was jam-packed. We longed for nothing. Staff were fluttering around friendly and smiling, and the hotel is very well managed! There are some salespeople milling around selling vacation packages, We finally filled out a paper with one of them simply because he wasn't taking no for an answer. Truly, we weren't there to do 2 hour presentations, but to simply enjoy the moment. The pools were clean, and the service staff at the pools and ocean were extremely attentive. Our waiter brought us 2 drinks at a time, which was very much appreciated considering how many people he was helping all day long. There was a bit of a towel/ pool longer game going on. But I find this is at most all-inclusive's. I would suggest having more loungers and umbrellas as some people were just sitting on towels at the main pool. Towels were also sometimes hard to find. At the ocean, the sargasm was always cleaned every morning. The water was warm, and the area was calm and swimmable. Because the resort is near the mangroves, there are crocodiles further down, but we never saw any. We did see some huge geckos , Coates, and one raccoon. As animal lovers, we were quite excited to see them all. Every morning and evening, I would go to the coffee bar. They have a long list of choices, and the coffee was delicious, and staff were always exceptional. The coffee bar was always lined up, but we never waited long. There is also an ice cream bar and dessert and sandwich options too. In the evenings we attending the White party, Silent party, St. Pat's party and a live band. We had a great time, as did everyone around us. We would always leave early, grab some drinks, and head to the ocean to enjoy the view as we aren't big partiers. We came simply to relax and to forget about life for a while, and this is exactly what The Royalton offered us! Waking up to the sunshine, the sound of the ocean and tropical birds iwas amazing! We gave this hotel. 5☆'s, but it was more of a 4.7 for us. But we wouldn't have felt right rating it only 4 ☆'s. The negatives were the persistent salespeople and that we didn't have any sort of ocean view, although it is what we reserved, and also for the lack of loungers and towels being hard to find. The hotel has experienced some wear and tear, but once it's updated, I am sure it will be a 5☆! Thank you to Royalton staff! You guys are incredible! P.S. after reserving this vacation, we read some awful reviews. Honestly, I think people just like to.complain. Some of the bad reviews were unwarranted and ridiculous. If you want a fantastic vacation, where you are surrounded by paradise and beautiful people who genuinely want to please you, then this is the place for you! We would go back tomorrow if we could!🫶🇨🇦
