    Just okay.

After having an absolutely amazing experience at Royalton Negril (Diamond Club) a few years ago, we decided to give Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana a try for our 25th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, we weren't impressed with this resort. We were Diamond Club here, as well, but the hospitality was lacking. I will say that Yovanni at the Hideaway Beach Bar and Jose and Uzona (sp?) at the Hideaway Pool bar were fantastic, and Maria at the Diamond Club beach cabanas was absolutely phenomenal. We were mostly disappointed with our butler and the overall service. My first BIG gripe is the staff stationed in the hallway that tries to get you to attend a "breakfast meeting" about their membership program. They refuse to give you the resort credits you were guaranteed when you booked if you don't first agree to schedule the breakfast meeting where they pressure you to buy into the membership program. My husband was ill at the time of our scheduled breakfast meeting, so we had to cancel. Once we cancelled our meeting, the staff was far less friendly towards us, and we heard from some fellow visitors that the lowest membership fee offered was $36,000 and the promised "short" breakfast meeting took over an hour and a half. You cannot avoid these staff members. They are stationed at desks at the foot of the steps in the hallway where you are forced to pass by them any time you leave your room. If you tell them you aren't interested in the meeting, they react with animosity. Recommendation- go for the swim up room. We chose not to select a swim up room at this resort, as it seemed less private, however our room was on the 3rd floor (we wanted ocean view) so we walked up and down 3 flights of stairs, several times a day, and it was HOT. The Hideaway portion of the beach is VERY small and there are very few lounge chairs in the shaded area. Not only that, but the chairs are usually already all claimed by people leaving towels on them first thing in the morning. Same for the lounges at the Hideaway pool. In Negril, our butler would secure lounge chairs for us every day and would even come to the beach periodically each day to check on us or bring us drinks from the bar. Our butler at the Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana was rarely seen and only communicated w/ us on a limited basis, and only about dinner reservation times. You'll be left to fend for yourself in making excursion appointments or reserving a cabana. I recommend you call before your arrival date and book your cabanas in advance, especially if you want a cabana on the Hideaway side of the resort. There are only two cabanas on that side, and they were already booked by other visitors for the entire week. The best food experience was at Hunter's Steakhouse. The steak was prepared perfectly! We also enjoyed Zen, the Japanese teppanyaki restaurant, and the Asian fusion restaurant. Dorado is great for breakfast, but dinner was a disappointment. Beware of lots of bones in any fish filet your order at any restaurant in the resort, with the exception of the grouper at the buffet. The sports bar had regular bar food offerings, but they were out of several things on the menu, and they were severely short staffed while we were there. If you get a chance to visit the buffet on Dominican night, take advantage! The Dominican dishes were delicious. We took advantage of small excursions like snorkeling and parasailing. Those were pleasant. Not phenomenal, but not terrible, either. Fortunately, we made some new friends and that's probably the best part of our trip. Make sure you take 50+ SPF. The sun's rays are brutal in Punta Cana, even if you're already tan and rarely burn. Also, FYI- if you need to limit your sugar consumption, water and Pepsi are your best options. Pepsi is Diet Pepsi in Punta Cana, and Coca Cola is regular Coca Cola. Just know that the Pepsi in your mini-fridge with the regular Pepsi label is actually Diet Pepsi. All in all, it was an okay trip, but we won't be back to Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana. The service and hospitality in Negril was FAR superior to what we experienced in Punta Cana. As a matter of fact, the service that we received at Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana was probably the lowest rated service we've received anywhere, including Cancun, Riviera Maya, Jamaica, etc. Go in with low expectations, though, and you'll probably enjoy your stay. I wouldn't say this is the perfect getaway for older couples.

Adults only and Luxury is not True.

This place is NOT ADULTS ONLY!! They are adjacent to other places that is family friendly and they have access to Hideaway. Food areas, beach, and bars. They had a Majic Show at the Hideaway!! During my stay Food ok.. bland Room service.. expect cold stale food Stained bedding Had no wash cloths in my room .. had to request. No elevators stayed on third floor Be prepared to drag your luggage up steps Not welcoming place..especially if you don’t speak Spanish I absolutely wouldn’t stay there again. Reached out to management to express my concerns they email all these apologies but do nothing! They have Marriott name associated with the property but apparently they are a franchise who could care less about your experience and or stay.

    Wonderful Couples Experience

We were with another couple, and we stayed in the Diamond Club Adults Only section of the resort. Personally, I thought the upgrade to Diamond Club was well worth it. We had our own butler service, private beach and pool plus Diamond Club had access to certain restaurants and grills. A special thank you to both our butlers, Kurtney and Raymond. They were both extremely helpful ever day providing us with the daily activities and even delivering food to us poolside. Most all-inclusive resorts have average to below average food. Royalton had some of the best food I've ever had. In particular was Dorado Grill, which was fantastic for lunch and even better for dinner. The chef even came out to greet us as he wanted our personal feedback. The rooms were above average, but not the best I've stayed in. Will probably need some updating soon, however, nothing that diminished our stay. The resort is a good 90 plus minute drive from the airport through windy narrow roads. Definitely the lowlight of the trip, but that's not a hit on Royalton as it was just the location. Four of us decided to take a helicopter on the return to trip, and that did not disappoint in the least. Not only did it cut our time drastically, but it was also more of an added excursion as the pilot acted as a tour guide as he flew over the island. It was gorgeous! If I were to come back, I would use the helicopter service as my private transfer every time. All in all, the staff was excellent, it's wonderful resort and was a wonderful experience. Thank you!

    Beautiful resort

The hotel was very nice, clean, staff was very friendly. Our concierge Frankley Castillo was great! The only issue was the college kids on spring break were noisy in the middle of the night going into their rooms. Would have been nice if they kept them all on the same floor or building away from regular guests.

    Falls way short of expectations

I’m a Marriott Platinum Elite member (Lifetime Gold, two years away from Lifetime Platinum), and I’ve stayed at many properties across the region. This particular hotel in Punta Cana falls short of Marriott’s premium standards. On the positive side, the property grounds and buildings are attractive and well-kept, especially in common areas. The main buffet offers a good variety of food, and there are multiple pools and convenient access to the beach. I also appreciated that the hotel approved our early check-in request and allows guests to stay on property until 5 PM on checkout day with full access. However, there are several downsides worth noting. First, the entrance to the hotel is through a rundown area—which isn’t the hotel’s fault, but worth mentioning for context. We paid for the Hideaway adults-only experience, but the separation from the main hotel is minimal (basically a wooden door and a few steps). All common areas and restaurants are shared, so if you’re looking for a true adults-only escape, this is not it. Restaurant reservations were disappointing—long waits, underwhelming service, and clear signs of understaffing. Oddly, the buffet was a better overall experience. Entertainment was also a letdown. For a resort in the Caribbean, in a country with such rich musical culture, we were surprised to find only English-language music lacking any tropical vibe. It felt more like being in a midwestern U.S. hotel than in the Dominican Republic. We had to change rooms upon arrival because the first one wasn’t cleaned properly (dirty bathroom, hair from previous guests). The new room was on the third floor of a building without elevators. While rooms appear stylish, both bathrooms we used showed signs of water damage, mold, and poor finishing. Overall, if your main goal is to drink all day in the Dominican Republic and have a casual group vacation, this hotel may work for you. But if you’re used to a premium Marriott experience—especially as a couple or adult traveler—this isn’t the right fit.
