Great holiday, but definitely not a 5 star
Whilst I have really enjoyed our holiday there have been a few downsides. Initial check in was chaos. We arrived, and were immediately hearded to a seating area where we had to complete forms and a credit card to secure the $200 security deposit. We were then left sat there waiting for someone to show us our room for over an hour. We were taken to our room (2122) by the bellhop (Delroy- he was fantastic), the room was a family room on the 2nd floor, the view was amazing and overall it was comfortable, however we soon came to realise that if we left the shower door open, the room smelt of drains. The smoke alarm went off regularly too, the only explanation was it either didn’t like the kettle or my hairdryer. The lifts are very temperamental, so had to use the stairs most of the time, but the handrails had been knocked off daily, which wasn’t great given I was travelling with my 72 yr old mum. The pool area needs a good scrub and the paint around it need redoing, the showers were working so guests had no choice but to wash sand off them by dipping in the pool. The toilets in the pool area are few and far between. 1 by the food hut and the other at the back of the children’s pool. The beach is beautiful, we walked down there every day 🫶🏻 The communal areas of this hotel are really well looked after and the staff work tirelessly to make sure everyone is happy. The martini bar was the he highlight of each evening. Romain, Michael, Andrew, Horace & Yanika are amazing and real asset to this hotel. The lobby bar is stunning and vast, but there is zero atmosphere. The entertainment was disappointing at best. The food in the buffet was great with a wide variety of dishes, however the speciality dining didn’t do it for me. The food arrived cold and wasn’t any better than in the buffet. Overall I would say this hotel is a 3* and the accommodation blocks are in desperate need of updating. Would I come here again, No I wouldn’t, but the staff really did make us feel special

Jamaica not the Caribbean experience we had hoped for.
Came here in October with high expectations as reviews and photos looks unreal. Was sadly very disappointed 😞 We were here when the strike took place which we understand the reasoning behind this and fully appreciate that the workers need better working conditions. But this aside we were still left feeling this was nowhere near a 5star hotel! Although the staff then returned to work there attitude’s where very dismissive not welcoming this unfortunately stayed this way for the duration of our holiday. Rooms were nice and spacious and cleaned most days. A la carte restaurants where shocking.the Italian had no pesto no Parmesan no spaghetti the list goes on The only good one was the Asian. Chefs in the Buffett where rude and very dismissive often saying they had run out of things by 8.00pm? Bar staff were not much better unless you had dollars in your hand. I would liked to say that there where 3 staff that stood out one be ing Clyde and Horrace from the Martini Bar and Jarvis who worked on the hide away. I myself and the friends I travelled with would not return to this hotel

Loved it, but flawed
If I'd written a review an hour after arrival here, it would probably be one star. Really confusing check-in process with all sorts of staff telling you to do different things. One of the receptionists was trying to deal with 4 different groups at the same time. Hmm! Once we managed to overcome that hurdle, the room we were given was spacious and clean; even had its own jacuzzi! Good air con too. Everything worked as it should. We weren't in the Diamond or Hideaway sections (upgrades) and were ok with that as they did seem a bit gimmicky. We found the food to be generally good, but we were puzzled how the main buffet restaurant was meant to work. There are loads of staff, but they all appear to run around from one table to another. This sometimes means they forget to get you your coffee or spoons even. Not good when you have an ice cream desert in 30 degrees! This, of course, is a management issue. Most of the staff are helpful and engaging, but you do get a sense that not all is well with some of the workers. The pick of the other restaurants was the Zen with both the food and service a notch above. Entertainment on an evening was hit and miss, ranging from very good (Bob Marley tribute) to quite dire (Beauty and the Beast, sorry). The beach area is nice but it does have a problem with the sea grass when the wind picks up. This is not the fault of the hotel but as a result of climate change and the staff do clear it, or try to on a daily basis. Do walk along the beach to the 'Walmart', an area of shacks covered with blue tarpaulin where local traders ply their wares. It's not at all threatening and you don't hassled that much :) We enjoyed our first visit to Jamaica and the points we've picked out are some of the foibles you probably should expect from the resorts here. It's rated as 5 star, but it was qualified nicely by a passenger on the inbound flight who was a seasoned visitor here as a 'Jamaican 5 Star'.

Poor management and upkeep of resort
Check in Not great after a 2 hour bus ride. Get told to sit down and fill out a form. No one had a clue what was going on. No welcome to Jamaica here's a welcome drink ! Room We paid for a swim up room. Got block 4 room which was supposed to be a sea view. Our view was the kids pool. Asked to change room numerous times and get what we paid for. Just kept getting told to come back in the morning or after 12. Then to be told nothing they can do. Wasn't a pleasant experience requesting a room change either. So we have put up with it. Maid service Very good hardly had to ask for anything. Vibe team entertainment Terrible. Just winging it. Will do a quiz round pool which is repeated and goes on for ever. Then they just do stupid individual dances (like there in a night club) to terrible music Aqua fit was always good Swim up pool bar service This was the worst of the resort. There was no excuse. Staff were tripping over themselves and not one of them serving customers in front of them. Just making a shed load of drinks to give out to guest paying tips. Don't get me wrong I was one of them at times paying tips for drinks and I understand they want they want their tips but there needs to be some management. Which was none existent. The only one that actually did some work was a guy called Peter. The rest hid in a room by the bar and ate food etc. We questioned this too management who clearly had no control over the staff. At some points we would try and the swim up bar = no joy after 10 minutes. Literally no one there. Then we would get out the pool and try there = no joy even though five staff there doing other drinks. We then had to go to beach bar where the service was good and they actually served you. Pool bar ran out of beer, told they hardly had any cocktails available due to no ingredients and then ran out of plastic glasses so got served in coffee paper cups. 5 star money for two star service if that. The beach bar The service was always good and staff there made an effort. Food This was a definite positive. The food in the main Buffett was really good. Service again was hit and miss The alacarte restaurants the food and service was good. The beach Unfortunately how Royalton is situated it got a lot of seaweed that they did a half hearted attempt to clear but further along the beach in front of other hotels it was amazing and the water was crystal clear. Which is where we went most of the time. There is a local bar at the end where you can pick a lobster from the sea and the cook it for you. Night entertainment One decent night was bob marley but other than that it was not great. The up keep of the resort Just really tired. Toilets don't work. Toilet doors don't lock. Everywhere tired and needs and updating. It really doesn't make a great start that they take you to your room from check in the back way and see all the rubbish and dirt and driver tells you don't worry on the other side is luxury 😆 Would I come back no for the price. You really don't get what you paid for !
