Great stay
When researching my trip to Mexico I’ve read a lot of reviews, so I will write a detailed one to hopefully help other travellers find the right fit for their needs. Overall, we had a great stay at the resort, and I would go back. The grounds of the resort are very beautiful and extremely well maintained. The cleanliness really stands out, and I loved that they have a lot of green space, which attracts lots of birds and wild animals (lots of cotties, deer, augotis etc.) You will find lots of comments about the cotties being annoying, but honestly we had no issues with them at all by following a simple rule: don’t feed them or eat outside (including on your balcony!). Yes if you leave your food or drinks on the ground/chair/table they will get into it, but just don’t and that way you can enjoy observing the wild life without any unwanted interaction. They are really beautiful animals. We’ve tried a lot of the restaurants and overall I wasn’t impressed with the food, it just wasn’t traditionally cooked (except for the Mexican restaurant La Hacienda). The French restaurant (La Fleur had a great atmosphere and loved the piano player, and the food we ordered was decent. However, we did enjoyed the buffet as it had a lot of food variety, and we were very happy with the fruit (which was always fresh and tasted amazing) and fresh veggies, so we mostly had that. I would say that overall, because of our preference to eat mostly fresh food and veggies, the food at the buffet was very much to our satisfaction. The local cooked food was also very tasty, and they had good variety. If you are looking for gourmet cooked food at both the restaurants and/or buffet this resort will probably not meet your expectations, but if you want simple fresh food, there are plenty of great options. Activities were many and we enjoyed them all. I particularly enjoyed the outdoor gym space, a covered terrace surrounded by vegetation and fountains, and absolutely loved exercising there. The instructors were fun and loved the HIIT, Pilates, TRX and Spin classes, thank you Norma, Ricardo and Marten. Also joined in the Zumba type classes by the pool which were always fun. The night entertainment in the theatre and outside in the main plaza were also of very good quality and lots of fun. Really enjoyed all of them! The beach is nice and clean with plenty of comfortable chairs and lots of umbrellas for shade. I would say if you’ve been to other parts of the Caribbean Sea, here you will not find the crystal clear turquoise water and flour like sand, but it is one of the nicer beaches in the area, I would probably give it a 3.5/5. To my surprise one day the waves were also pretty good for surfing and they have free surf boards. We stayed in a junior suite and found the room to be very clean, spacious and comfortable, with a nice balcony. We were on the top floor and really enjoyed that. We understood the resort was at capacity, however it was really quiet at night and the people very well dispersed during the day, we never found it to be too busy. I should also mention that we felt extremely safe. We also forgot a couple items in the theatre and at the buffet, which we promptly found at lost and found and buffet reception, and the personnel was overall very nice and friendly. Overall we had a great time and really enjoyed our stay!

Great food in a la cartes, room was clean and comfortable. Wait staff was hard-working and pleasant.
We really had a chance to relax at the Grand Riviera Princess. We chose the Platinum upgrade and enjoyed a larger room. The Jacuzzis were never used. I recommend getting a room on the upper floors because the coati were invasive and everywhere.

Villas are the best! Will return!
This is our second stay at the Princess resorts (GSP/GRP) in the Laguna Villas. Love these rooms and wouldn't hesitate to book the Villas again (actually booked while I was still there this last trip). WIFI - I'll start here - our visit in May 2024 the wifi was stellar and no issues at all. This visit, not great at all, as a matter of fact, horrible wifi - kept dropping or couldn't connect or it was so slow it was worthless and there were several days I couldn't get up and have my coffee and check my work emails but I have to add that even my mobile data was horrible this trip which is odd because I have been nearly 30 times to this area and never had mobile data issues so I have to wonder if there is an issue outside the resort's control but I couldn't get any verification on what the issue was. I did even try to purchase the premium wifi, hoping that might help ($18 for 7 days) but it had the same result. Just bad. If it wasn't for the wifi issues this would be 5 star rating. Chill Out - we reserve this ahead of time for the first night we arrive and it does not disappoint. Excellent service and atmosphere and food! Then Chill Out for breakfast, staying in the Villas the cost of this restaurant for Breakfast is included and we rarely miss the chance to go here. Outstanding service and friendliness was provided daily by all the staff, especially Absolon. Beach Club - The 2 servers that kept us hydrated at the Beach Club daily were hard working and friendly. Hugo and Raquel. Raquel was quite possibly one of the hardest servers I have ever seen! Top notch! Other food - This trip we had a chance to enjoy more of the restaurants and the only one that we wouldn't bother with again is the Steak House (La Vaqueria). Quite possibly the worst steak I've ever had - and service was sub par compared to what we had at other a la carte restaurants there. Our favorites were LaHacienda, MamaMia and Miso Thai (we did the grill before and it was great also). Buffet - if you can't find something on the buffet for nourishment then you have issues, not the resort. If nothing else the bread is amazina and desserts - we ran in for just dessert after 1 meal. We love the buffet for a quick easy bite and we've not ever failed to find something but like any buffet, it is hit or miss on temperature but still so much better than 1) starving and 2) cooking and cleaning at home! We will definitely return to GRP. We hope to see some of the staff we met this time (and last, Hugo) in May when we return!

Ehhhhhhhh, I wouldn't return
Staff was generally very friendly and the beach was nice. Platinum section probably worth it. Quick to get drinks. Grounds were pretty well kept too. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't return. The food was pretty close to terrible. We stuck to custom omelettes each day in the morning and pool side tacos as nothing else seemed fresh enough to eat. The food at the buffets always looked picked over or over cooked from sitting steam trays. Getting a dinner reservation seemed difficult each night too. Our room smelled of mold and though we did ultimately got moved to a room with less of an odor, it was still a lot of work and hassle. You'd imagine at 5 star hotel, it would be a quick fix. We never got a good explanation of the property so I am sure we missed a bunch of amenities and the layout of the hotel is confusing with minimal signage to a point that we spent the first lost.

Wedding at Grand Riviera Princess
I am writing to share my disappointment regarding my recent stay at this resort in December 2024 for my wedding. This was my third visit, and my husband and I were genuinely looking forward to the same exceptional service and experiences we had enjoyed in the past. Unfortunately, this time, it fell far short of our expectations. Given that we brought a large group of guests to celebrate such a special occasion, we expected a higher level of care and attention. This is not what happened at all ... One particularly disappointing experience occurred at Chill Out Beach, a private area for which we paid extra to access. At 4:30 PM, we went to the bar and were told it was closed, even though the posted closing time was 5 PM (a time I had specifically confirmed with staff). However, after providing a generous tip, the bar suddenly “reopened.” This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially in a space that requires an additional fee to enjoy. It left us feeling taken advantage of and frustrated, completely tarnishing what should have been a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Additionally, the food quality at the à la carte restaurants has declined significantly. During previous visits, we loved dining at Mama Mia and the Mexican restaurant, and the food was always one of the highlights of our stay. This time, however, it was a major letdown. Our meals were served cold, and the pasta seemed like it had been made the day before. While we were not sick, the quality of the food was nowhere near what it used to be. To make matters worse, organizing group reservations was unnecessarily complicated and disappointing. Since we were celebrating our wedding, we assumed the resort would assist us with group bookings for our guests. Instead, we were told that reservations for groups larger than 10 people would incur additional charges, which is absolutely ridiculous. For smaller groups, we were informed we couldn’t make a reservation unless we paid $150 USD for a bottle of wine to secure a table. These policies made it extremely difficult to enjoy meals with our loved ones and added unnecessary stress to what should have been a joyful occasion. The resort’s overall decline in service and quality, combined with the focus on extra payments for basic hospitality, undermines the experience and damages the trust of your loyal customers. That said, I want to acknowledge Raquel Martinez, who has consistently provided exceptional service and went above and beyond to make our stay more enjoyable. Her professionalism and kindness stood out in an otherwise disappointing experience. Sadly, this visit has solidified our decision not to return to this resort. It’s disheartening to see the decline in service and quality, especially as loyal guests who once considered this our favorite destination.
