Wonderful Stay! Plenty To Do, Great Beach But Food A Bit Hit And Miss
This was our first time in the Dominican Republic. Being sick of the cold and dull British weather, we wanted to go somewhere nice and warm. We have never done resort holidays as we are people who like to have a walk around and sight see a little! The resort overall was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday there! I’m going to do this review in sections to break it down a little. ROOM The room was great! The bed was massive and the fan kept the room nice and cool. Bottled water was restocked everyday and overall the room was clean! We had a lovely garden terrace that looked out towards the pool which was relaxing to sit out on. The only let down in the room for me was the bath seemed a bit unclean or stained. I wasn’t quite sure what it was on the bath but it wasn’t great. Also the plug was missing from the bath so we couldn’t fill it to have a bath. FOOD For breakfast the buffet was nice. It had a great range of food and you could even have a omelette cooked fresh for you with your choice of ingredients! The buffet at night wasn’t great. We only visited it once because the food was very ‘school canteen’ food and really didn’t taste great! The snack bar was great for a little bite in the afternoon or evening. For the rest of the holiday we booked the A La Carte Restaurants which I will rate below separately. Ikebana 10/10 (Japanese/Teppanyaki) - The food was great in here, staff were super fun and friendly and put on a great show! Cineccita 10/10 (Italian) - Food tasted great, service was fast and staff were friendly Gira Rodizio 8/10 (Meat Serving Restaurant) - Staff were friendly and service was great but for me there wasn’t enough chicken that went around and the sausages were cold and I can’t stand cold meat but the buffet part of it had a great selection of food and desserts! Route 66 2/10 (American Style Diner) - The staff were really friendly and service was fast but I was put off my food when a cockroach crawled out from the dropped old food under another table. This is basic hygiene practice and should have been cleaned as soon as that table left. Tex Mex 5/10 (Tex Mex Food) - The food was great! Very tasty and we also enjoyed the dessert. What I didn’t like is having to ask the staff twice if we could order out food after being sat for 45 minutes without even being seen. When we were served, the male waiter who came over seemed to have a real chip on his shoulder with us because we had complained. I genuinely don’t think we would have been served if we didn’t ask. BEACH All I can say about the beach is that it is stunning and beautiful! I love the BBQ and beach bar that is located very close. There is also plenty of sun-beds for you to relax on! ENTERTAINMENT The entertainment team was great! The dancers were awesome. And we absolutely loved the magic show! One thing I didn’t like was on the Retro night one of the dancers were miming (pretending to sing). Now I know this was probably just for fun and part of the show but some members of the audience actually believed that it was her who was singing and as a singer myself who does it as a career I found it very insulting. I didn’t see a point in pretending to sing if you’re not singing. Just hire a singer? ACTIVITIES We actually chose to do archery which was really fun! But there were lots of sports and activities to choose from and they are super easy to book! Just don’t forget your sports shoes like I did! SPA The spa was very relaxing and nice! It was a bit pricey but I do love a good massage. Sadly I didn’t really feel any different after having my massage done. It was nice at the time but I usually feel some improvement after having one done and this time I did not. I feel like for a deep tissue massage that it really didn’t get to the deep tissue. POOL There was plenty of pool space! Very clean and relaxing! I personally preferred the pool next to the leisure club as it was a bit quieter than the main one. The music was bit annoying that was coming from the larger pool. I found that it did go on for quite a while and when you just want to relax or read it can be a bit distracting. DISCO/NIGHTCLUB We went in once and enjoyed it. One thing I will say is that I think you need to play world wide music and cater to every guest. It’s hard to enjoy music if every song is something you don’t know or can’t understand. I get that I’m in a different country but a resort is full of people from around the world and one genre of music isn’t for everyone. STAFF The staff were very hit and miss. Don’t get me wrong a lot of the staff were really lovely and smiley but there were a handful I found were extremely rude. I had rolling eyes from one staff member to another scowling because I asked if we could order our food. I think that the staff need to remember that we are the guests who pay their wages and to simply ask to for a drink or to order shouldn’t be a big ask. ULTIMATE LEISURE CLUB What a pain! I was sick of hearing about the ultimate leisure club after multiple times of saying ‘I’m not interested’. Constantly having to move out of the way on the paths for these ridiculous buggy’s transporting VIP guests around. It’s actually quite unsafe, especially on a resort that has so many little kids running about and what shocked me even more is how many of them are looking at their phone while driving them just expecting people will move. Don’t get rope into the ‘free vip breakfast’. Luckily before we went in they told us there was a presentation we would have to watch and it’s all about signing up for the Ultimate Leisure Club. I found it quite insulting when we were questioned if we live together or not and when we said we didn’t they basically said that only really do it for people who live together. So I felt really judged on that. Anyone from the UK knows that there is a cost of living crisis and house prices are through the roof so I really didn’t like this. And i kinda walked away feeling like a peasant. Overall I really did enjoy my stay. Every place has its pros and cons. For me the pros outweighed the cons on this resort I would definitely come back but I hope to see some improvements on the points I have made

Great relaxing vacation!
Front line staff are amazing. Had a incredible relaxing massage from Francia at the spa. Pool butlers Friel and Frankelly were always eager to help. Anna and her crew at the buffet let us want for nothing. Very pleasant and always smiling. Hugs were part of our daily routine.Christina and Edison and the VIP crew never disappoint, with a welcoming Hola! Bar tenders Jimmy and Juan always serves up the best drinks. Darianny at the Plaza was always making conversation and gave us great service. The grounds people work very hard to keep the resort looking great. We had some laughs with our concierge, Jose, he likes to talk, good guy. The entertainment crew work very hard to ensure that there is something for everyone.

Very Disappointing
Disappointing! This is not a very nice resort. The concierges are like sharks waiting on every corner to try and sell you stuff. Very uncomfortable how everyone seems to want something from you. Ours called us at 8am 2 mornings in a row - I unplugged our phone after that. After we turned down the 'special breakfast' (which we knew was them trying to get us to sign up for their Ultimate Leisure Club) he pretty much ignored us and hardly said 'hello'. The buffets and the food in general is horrendous and mostly inedible. We were dreading breakfast every day. I stuck to bananas and packaged yogurt. You have to make reservations for the themed restaurants for dinner, but can't just make them yourself - you have to see the concierge, and you can't make reservations for your whole stay all at once. Really annoying. Due to this inconvenience we had to eat at the dinner buffet 3 out of our 7 nights there. It's outrageous - every single time without exception when we went to the buffets (breakfast, lunch or dinner) there were no plates, no bowls etc. When the plates finally came out, most of them were dirty. Self serve ice cream was either basically melted, or machine not working. The buffets are like a very unorganized, dirty and loud cafeteria. Bad service. Hygiene is very questionable and food safety is definitely unheard of throughout the hotel. Definitely bring Imodium! Drinks: Not consistent - every bar / bartender prepared the drinks differently, never the same. Who knew a Gin Tonic comes with a cinnamon stick in it?! N/A Pina Coladas etc.don't taste very good, cheap product, mostly not frozen enough. Pool: closes at 6pm :-( Entertainment: Good, there's always something going on, they do a nice job. If they'd spend a fraction of the time, money and effort that they do for the animation into the food, it would make a difference. Rooms: Very outdated, broken things. Not impressed. Walkability: There really isn't anything within walking distance you can do. Themed Restaurants: Hibachi Restaurant - 3/5 This was fun, but food was underwhelming Brazilian Restaurant - 1/5 Not good food. Italian Restaurant - 2/5 My husband, who is not picky, literally couldn't eat his mushroom risotto, it was so bad. Dessert was advertised to come with Vanilla ice cream, but they must have been out, so they gave us rum raisin - which tastes like straight alcohol - not a great choice for our kids! (same thing happened at the French restaurant) French Restaurant - 3/5 Service was better here, and you actually got to order each course vs. mostly buffet like the others. My salmon was good after I removed the weird crust. Everything and everyone from arrival to departure seems like a scam, trying to sell you overpriced stuff. I would definitely never stay here again.

Jose the bartender is super cool.
Jose the bartender at La Piramide lobby bar was so cool. He was very attentive to our company, very patient, and very polite. Please come say hi when you go to this bar. He could support any conversation and was very friendly. We totally want to come see him again.
