Decent for an overnight
Stayed for an overnight on our way to VNP. The service was terrific, the grounds are pretty, but the hotel itself is tired and in need of an update. I'm sure it's the weather in Hilo, but everything smelled musty and it's more of a travel sports team calibur hotel.

Excellent Value, Beautiful Grounds
My husband and I just spent 5 lovely days at the Grand Naniloa. I admit that I was a bit skeptical about choosing this property because of many of the reviews here. TLDR: Glad we chose this property and would choose it again if staying in Hilo. Service: Excellent. I emailed the property before arrival because I wanted to change the type of room I’d booked and could not make the change online. Randall got back with me promptly about the price difference and made the change. Scott, Jay, and Gavin behind the bars were all friendly, welcoming, and ready to share all kinds of local info. Ciara at check-in was efficient. Catherine in the spa gave a great lomi lomi massage. Food: We tried only the spring rolls and did enjoy them. Property: The grounds are beautiful and the views of Hilo Bay, turtles, and the ships coming and going were a delight. We even caught a few glances of the top of Mauna Kea when the clouds briefly broke. It is true, the building needs some TLC and the team is working on it. They were painting the exterior while and also installing the art work that others have mentioned. They are also getting ready to reopen the spa in the near future. I enjoyed a massage with Catherine in the room currently being used for treatments. Room: We were in a King with lanai and, as Hilton program members, were thrilled to be upgraded to the wraparound lanai suite. This was spectacularly special and made the stay for us. Since we previously read that the artwork had been removed, the bare walls were not a surprise. We found the room to be very comfortable. General Comments: We loved the live Hawaiian music Tuesday - Saturday. Although resort fees in general are a personal pet peeve, these actually because of the 2 daily drink tickets and the daily round of golf at their 9 hole course. It is not a par 3 either; so pack a sleeve of balls and take advantage.

Could have been Excellent with better staffing and an airport shuttle.
My experience is based on my stay from 3/24/2025 to 4/14/2025. The hotel grounds are and oceanfront views gorgeous. The staff is mostly friendly; however, I had a few negative experiences. They had staffing shortages a few nights so the kitchen closed early. One of the female bartenders was quite rude on the evening of 4/12 and seemed to be more interested in chatting with a friend than providing service. The woman who works the take out desk at the restaurant was always fantastic and went above and beyond in providing outstanding service. My biggest gripes are that they do not have an airport shuttle (taxis were not available at my time of departure and it took 30 minutes to get an Uber). Additionally, the front counter was unable to provide me with a receipt for my $6k+ stay because they were “doing an audit”.

Avoid by all means
Avoid by all means. An outdated hotel with rooms that are embarrassing to call a Hilton. I am gold Honors member for years, and never in my life stayed at a dump like this. Our room had a moldy AC, rusty rails in the balcony, dirty floors. Take an AirBnB before ever considering this place.

Won’t be staying here again
Parking is an issue if u don’t want to valet-only street parking. My room had a soggy wet carpet from AC unit leaking. Dead roach in my fridge and several babies living in the bathroom. I was a bit surprised being this is a Hilton. In the end -I won’t staying here again.
