Lovely stay in Cancun
Thank you for having us! We had a lovely time here at the golden parnassus, I must mention the staff, who is brilliant and really makes you feel like home! Special mentiones for Jose, Firmin, Susana (hk ) Oscar, Samuel, Daniel, ( and the young boy who does the tacos at the lounge) but to all of them really! They are all working so hard and are brilliant! Hotel facilities are great, lovely pool close to the beach, plenty sunlounges, lovely bars and restaurants! Food amazing! However the only downside was the room, they really need a bit more attention ( wind coming through the window frame, every morning food smell in the room from the kitchen )

False Advertising
Pros: Staff was super friendly, as were the people staying there. We loved the staff. Room was generally clean, aside from a few stains on sheets/pillows. The view from our room was great. Cons: False advertising on the website. The activities were slim to none, and there were definitely no nightly shows. There is no true hot tub on the premises, just a warm tub. As a plant based person, the food was good, except they were very limited on plant-based proteins. Very few legumes and whole grains. The veggies and fruit, however, were excellent! Advice: With so much to do in Cancun outside of the resort, save money by booking at a non-all inclusive, and do more excursions.

Fix those leaks!! It's dangerous
I am one of those people who take negative reviews with a pinch of salt normally so when I saw the reviews saying - it needs updating and it's in disrepair etc. I thought it couldn't be that bad. Unfortunately it was! Leaky ceilings in rooms- we ended up just putting towels on the floor and letting them soak it up. Both lifts were broken at same time on one occasion so thank God we were only on 2nd floor- only because I 'paid' to upgrade to 6th floor with Jacuzzi but asked to go to a lower floor as it stunk and had cockroaches on the bathroom but that's ok....we got sorted with a lovely but leaky slight ocean view room and the bed was extremely comfortable! We tried to order room service but the phone didn't work in the room 🙄 The maids were great and cleaned out room and topped up water and supplies every day. The waiters and waitresses deserve a medal! They work so hard! Oscar was the star of the show and the hotel are so lucky to have such hard working staff. Entertainment was good in the day but poor of an evening. The Mexican fiesta was great and overall the food was absolutely delicious. The place needs seriously updating and we won't return until it does. The leaks need fixing! We witnessed a woman slip on some water on her last day and hurt her back really bad. The leaks need addressing and I hope she's ok as she was flying home the same day!😞

A lovely spot (just ignore the evening meals)
The staff truly are excellent. Everyone is friendly and helpful from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, I was extremely impressed with them all! The location is also faultless, amazing views and directly on the beach. There is also no fighting for sun loungers since there are so many by the pool and on the beach there is always room for you. The rooms are nice enough, spacious and the beds are extremely comfortable. I slept very well here. The hotel itself really is not in a great condition, some leaks, and everything looks to have been done as cheap as possible. The cleaning staff clearly do their best to keep everything as clean as possible, but major renovations are needed to get it up to basic standards. This however didn't really bother me personally, I wanted to be on the beach or asleep here, the quality of the building is not a priority for me. What was an issue was food. On the one hand if you are in the Paradise restaurant you would have a nice meal. Lovely breakfast buffet, and at lunch fresh tacos that were truly delicious (the fact this restaurant closed in the evening I found to be ludicrous). Also the breeze bar did some nice burgers, hot dogs, wings, and nachos. The issues came in the evening. The first restaurant we tried was The Old Barn, a steakhouse that only had flank steak included in the all inclusive, or a skewer. Whilst the food here tasted fine the portion sizes were laughable. You would need I would guess 6 skewers to equate a full meal. The Pier 12 restaurant served really rather bad food, again small portions, but it didn't even taste good this time. Shangri La has a very strange rule of men having to wear shoes, no sandals as if they are a fine dining restaurant in Mayfair, but you then go into a tacky room, and eat overcooked food. The items on the menu were strange, it was as if they wanted to create a French restaurant, but had never actually eaten french cuisine. The chocolate cake dessert was particularly disgusting with some strange gelatinous layer on top. Sumo is not even worth discussing. If the Paradise buffet was open in the evenings (maybe with a few different options available at night to keep it interesting) there would be no issues, but unless you order room service (which is better than the restaurants by far I discovered too late into my stay) you are forced into one of these laughable restaurants and you will have a lackluster evening. On the positive side again the bars are all lovely, serving any cocktails you ask for and they are all delicious. Essentially here I had wonderful days and disappointing evenings. At this hotel you will be in a prime spot and will be looked after by some truly wonderful people. I cannot gush about the staff enough really, especially the ladies taking drinks orders by the pool and on the beach, they worked so hard always with a smile; just fill up at lunchtime and you will be happy. There are some reviews on this site that act as if this hotel is terrible, I find these all to be vastly over exaggerated, the air conditioning works fine, the pool is lovely too. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

A pity
The 'Golden' aspect of the Parnassus has definitely lost its gilt ! The place is great for food and its a nice location But it's severely lacking in terms of overall maintenance and its basically in much need of a 'make-over' Shabby in general, especially compared to its immediate neighbours ... It needs help !!
