El Dorado disappointing so save your money
Look at our lovely room on arrival yesterday. We are members but members or not nobody should be giving a room like this!! We are here for 15 nights and half of the wardrobe is a wall not useable!! Customer service is no longer existent at this resort. Since the running of this hotel has been taking back to original owners (the Lomas family) this hotel has gone down hill!! Please save your money and go somewhere else !! No longer a true 5 star hotel maybe a 3 at a push.

Antonio Uc Super Waiter
I am an Exotic Member & have been to El Dorado Royale over 50 times since I became a Member in 2011. I would like to single out one particular waiter in this review. Antonio Uc is one of the best waiters I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing & having as my waiter! I always ask for him & go where he is serving every day I’m at the resort! He anticipates my needs & remembers what I like regardless of how much time has passed from my last visit. He always has a smile on his face & helps the other waiters whenever they need it. Antonio is more than one of my favorite waiters….he is one of my favorite friends!!

Individual staff members such as Antonio Uc, Oscar, Angel and Johnny all bent over backwards to make it a 5 star service. Shuttle service/maid service need better training. Antonio Uc recognized us from previous visits with a warm welcome and continued what I would term as excellent service. Oscar also remembered us from previous visit and immediately stopped to give us a warm greeting. Angel although new this year remembered us name and room number and made a very personal parting gesture. Johnny showed professionalism. We miss Alex at breakfast.

Awesome place
The staff was friendly and took care of us. All meals were excellent and the grounds beautiful. Some things need maintenance and that they are in process of doing so and nothing affected our stay. There are many pools with one the main party pool and three others that can be laid back or party, depending upon who is there. Looking to go back later this year.

Would I go back? If the rates are lower than other similar places yes. If not I would try some other place.
I just stayed for the weekend at this hotel which is very big so it doesn’t feel crowded, the f&b is quite impressive for an all inclusive. The wine list is perfect, the kampai restaurant is great (shout out to Raul for being the best waiter in all the resort), the pizza at la cabaña is delicious (shout out to Yesi the hostess she is so kind) and La isla our favorite restaurant with the best service and Francisco (I hope I remember the name correctly but he is the guy in charge) being a great example for his team, the service there is spotless. The alcohol brands included are really good except they ran out of them easily. However all this effort in the food and beverage department gets overshadowed by the TERRIBLE service at reception and transportation areas. At check in we got zero indications on How the resort works, nobody explained about the app, nothing! We had to figure out that on our own. The guy suddenly disappeared through a door and came 10 minutes later just to say your room isn’t ready come back later. Same thing at check out, it takes them AGES to check you out and when I requested my invoice they told me if I had asked it at check in, which I did and the guy told me you have to ask at check out… so they have no processes on how to do that. The worst part are the internal transportation golf carts… as I mentioned the property is big and you have to walk across other properties for certain restaurants… well the carts are always busy moving people from weddings or check ins so they are not available for regular guests and a couple times that we were waiting at the stations and an empty car passed we would have to yell at them to stop and they will just yell back saying we are not going that way… they didn’t even know which way we were going. On other occasion we were on the property next tot he hotel (generation) which is a 20 minutes walk at least and no carts whatsoever we finally were able to stop one (because we walked to the back path which is only for employees) and he asked very aboyed where we going , we said reception and he is like no im not going there… we asked were was he going and he said to el dorado which is exactly were we were going, and he started Telling us quite anoyed that we have to explain ourselves better because there were other lobbys… I replied to him sorry for not lnowing that we do not work them… at the end he took us back to el dorado but as you can imagine it was not a comfortable ride. I don’t know if people that drive the carts are are not well fed or rested but you can tell they are not happy. Would I go back? Yes if the rate is lower than other similar hotels… for the same price I would stay somewhere else
