Family Trip to El Cid Marina Dec 2024 - January 2025
A Group of Five at El Cid Marina Beach Resort Stay Dates: December 27, 2024 - January 3, 2025 Meal Plans Offered: 1. European Plan – No food or drinks included 2. Regular All-Inclusive 3. Elite All-Inclusive We opted for the Regular All-Inclusive plan. Check-In Check-in was smooth and efficient. We were approached by timeshare salespeople but, once we declined, they respected our decision and left us alone. Although we were approached a few more times during our stay, a firm “no” was sufficient to avoid any further pestering. Adjusting to the bracelet scanning system took a bit of time, but within a day or two, we had it figured out. While the menus listed prices, most items were included in our meal plan. Rooms We booked three junior suites. It’s unclear if we were upgraded, but each suite came with a well-stocked kitchen and a separate bedroom. The rooms, while not modern, were well-maintained. However, cleanliness could be improved. • Cupboard doors had visible stains that could have been easily wiped off. • Dust buildup was noticeable on the tops of cupboards. • Headboards and the areas around the beds needed a more thorough cleaning. Grounds The resort grounds were immaculate and well-maintained. The staff worked tirelessly to keep everything clean and beautiful, rivaling or exceeding the standards of fancier resorts we’ve stayed at. The public bathrooms, especially by the main pool, were spotless and consistently cleaned throughout the day. A dedicated staff member ensured the bathrooms were always tidy. Features like motion-sensor faucets and touch-free towel dispensers were a nice touch. By comparison, the other El Cid properties we visited via the complimentary shuttle didn’t maintain their public areas as well, and their manual towel dispensers were often broken or out of towels. Pools & Beach The food menus at both the pools and the beach were similar but notably better than those at other resorts we’ve visited. • Waitstaff: The main pool and beach staff were more attentive than those at the secondary pool. • Beach: The beach was beautiful, and we had no trouble finding lounge chairs under the palapas later in the afternoon. The ocean, while picturesque, wasn’t ideal for swimming, although some guests enjoyed playing in the waves. Buffet The buffet was smaller compared to other resorts but offered above-average quality (about 3.5 out of 5). A nice perk was the option to order from a menu instead of sticking to the buffet. Wednesdays: Be aware that cruise ship passengers from Carnival Panorama visit the resort, making the area chaotic. Entertainment Entertainment at El Cid Marina was minimal, limited to daytime activities like bingo and some poolside games. We were told we could access entertainment at other El Cid resorts, but when we visited, we found their offerings similarly lacking. Compared to resorts in the Yucatán, the entertainment was underwhelming. Check-Out Check-out time was 12 noon, but our shuttle wasn’t scheduled until 1:30 PM. Unlike other resorts we’ve stayed at, we weren’t offered a voucher to eat or drink after check-out and would have had to pay out of pocket, which left a negative impression. Would We Return? If my wife and I were visiting for an extended stay, this could be a good choice, especially if we skipped the all-inclusive option and explored local restaurants. However, for a trip with our 20- and 22-year-old sons, the resort was far too quiet and lacked engaging activities. Final thoughts: El Cid Marina is well-suited for a relaxing getaway but may not appeal to younger guests or those seeking vibrant entertainment options.

Amazing activities
We had such a marvelous visit. The rooms and grounds are immaculate and beautiful. The activities were so fun. We participated in stretch class, Spanish lessons, water aerobics and blackjack. We loved the stretch classes that were also partially yoga by Oscar and Ramon. A big highlight of our trip was the Spanish lessons by Dante. He taught us so much in one class and made us feel confident. He made it fun so everyone participated. Overall we are so impressed by how many of the staff are able to flip back and forth from Spanish and English We would come back for certain!
