A very very special place
This place has taken my heart. The vibe, the beach, the gardens, but most importantly the staff. It is a paradise place, so relaxing and beautiful. The entertainment team are the real gem in the crown, I feel like I've made friends for life. They work so hard and really make the holiday extra special. What a special special place. We will definitely be back next year! Thank you thank you thank you!

Wonderful small, quaint resort
Love this small, quaint resort! Really liked our hut, nothing fancy but very comfortable with AC working great; lots of room; very private. Food was wonderful, lots of meats, fish, salads and veggies...something for everyone for sure. Nightly entertainment was very good. Lots going on daily at the main pool although we stayed on beach. Beach is very nice, lots of wind and waves while we were there but still able to swim in the sheltered coves. Jetty bar with swings was fun. A La Cartes were delicious. Walked off resort to local vendors and grocery store with no issues , then walked up/down main road , traffic is crazy lol but no issues. Lots of people venture to Sharkies and Jerky place for suppers with no problem (although we did not). Lots of beach towels and chairs. End of our week was during Jamaican holiday ? Easter weekend, so resort filled dup quickly Thursday and Friday with locals partaking in their holiday weekend...so then there were lineups for food, etc. But rest of week there were no lineups at all. All staff, entertainment, bar tenders, reception, housecleaning, waiter/waitresses, beach staff...everyone was very friendly and accommodating! We are already planning to return next year!

Beautiful stay at Royal Decameron
Honestly, I have to say this is one of the best holidays I’ve been on. The Royal Decameron Runaway Bay is a gem, please don’t take any notice of the negative reviews! The location is incredible with 3 beautiful beaches where it’s a pleasure to watch the sun rise and sunset. An experience I won’t forget, it’s just magical. The staff are very friendly and work very hard to make the holiday special. The entertainment team are really fantastic, they work very hard and long hours. The do lots of games during the day for the kids at the pool by the food hall, and they do a great evening show too, with lots of different acts such as steel band, reggae band, singers, circus show and many more. There’s a stunning quiet pool if you want to relax in peace. The food is lovely with lots of choice. It’s traditional Jamaican food and it’s extremely tasty and well presented. They have delicious fruit and salads. I can’t thank the staff at royal Decameron runaway bay enough for this truly magical and special holiday that we’ve had. Thank you!! We can’t wait to come back

A lovely relaxing holiday in unique surroundings
We have been to the Decameron several times before but this time we were accompanied by our daughter and her family. It is a perfect place for a lazy sunny holiday and the accommodation in the garden and seafront cottages is unique. The food is like home cooking with plenty of local Jamaican dishes. The new rules on not reserving sun beds on the beach worked well and we never had a problem finding one. Signs of investment around the place were obvious with the refurbished jetty bar opening during our stay and proving to be a pleasant spot for a quiet evening drink. All staff were friendly and helpful from the cleaners and gardeners through the restaurant and bar staff to the reception staff.

We LOVED it
Overall: I was anxious about this holiday after reading some bad reviews pop up in the time after booking, however I shouldn’t have worried. This was my first time to Jamaica and my partner’s second. We loved the holiday and hotel was amazing, we couldn’t fault it. I think the bad comments are very unfair for a 3 star hotel which was really very good. Location: Location was lovely, about 70 mins from the airport but the journey went fast. The actual resort is lovely with ‘coves’ which have been man-made. The views were lovely. It was a perfect location for trips as it’s right in the middle of the north coast. Rooms: We had cottage 129 in the gardens. It was lovely and always spotless when the cleaner had been round. Fantastic air conditioning and we had no issues at all. The cottage was very spacious and we enjoyed having our own little space. Gardens: The gardens were immaculate. Everyday there was someone doing some work on the gardens, cutting the grass or pruning hedges etc. We were amazed by how stunning the gardens were. The gardens are massive so there was a fair bit of walking from our room to the main hotel area, so that’s a consideration if you have mobility problems. Beach: The beach was great, although the only slight negative was the amount of seaweed on the beach. There are lots of sea plants in the shallow areas which get churned up. There was always someone cleaning up the weeds, but it was a bit of a thankless task, as every day there would be more and it must be a very laborious and monotonous task. The sea was very changeable and some days was calm and others very choppy. I did get paddle board one of the days which was great. It seems as though this stretch is a bit rougher in general. Pools: Pools were great. We mainly stayed at the quiet pool because the main pool had lots going on and lots of noise. The quiet pool is adults only which we liked so we could relax and I could read. They were cleaned everyday and I saw life guards checking the chemical levels regularly to insure water was safe. Food: This was my main worry before coming because of so many bad reviews. I needn’t have worried because we thought the food was amazing! It was a little repetitive by the end of week 2, but the food was all well cooked and tasty. We especially loved that the food was all local and Authentically Jamaican, and not things we would have at home. The A La Cartes were okay, and the table service was nice to have, but we personally preferred the buffet. Drinks: Drinks were very nice, the best ones were at the Quiet pool, where staff member Pat, was very attentive and kind, and her drinks were fab. I believe I heard her affectionately known as ‘Auntie Patty’. Drinks at the Souk Bar were mostly good although some bar tenders were a little over-generous with the rum. The frozen drinks were from a machine at the main bar. We didn’t go to the booze liner bar. The jetty bar was still under construction whilst we were there, so we didn’t experience this but looks like it will be great once it is complete. Entertainment: We don’t tend to go on holiday for the entertainment as we prefer a more quiet and relaxed atmosphere, however the evening entertainment was generally very good and people seemed to enjoy it who took part. Staff: In general, the staff were all very good and friendly. Most would say hello to you each morning and the lifeguards round the quiet pool recognised us and would chat to us daily. Staff to shout out as being amazing: Auntie Pat Philip Smith David Whyte Akeem Henry Lifeguards at quiet pool There were others too but we didn’t catch their names. Tipping: We did tip on occasions however not every time we got a drink; we didn’t feel there was a difference in service between those who did this and those who didn’t. There was no pressure for tipping, such as tip boxes, except for the omelette stand at breakfast due to staff there (obviously) not handling money whilst cooking. Even then, you were treated no differently if you tipped or not. Cats There were a fair few cats around but I wouldn’t say the place is ‘overrun’ with them as some comments said. We are animal lovers but the cats weren’t aggressive and would simply walk about the restaurant to see what food they could get. Some would feed them and others wouldn’t, for people who didn’t the cats would simply move off after a short while. Most of them liked a little head scratch from anyone willing to provide.
