Somewhat disappointing
The hotel has its positive aspects, which I’d like to highlight. The beach and the sea are truly stunning and provide a dreamlike setting. The rooms are spacious and come with well-equipped balconies that invite you to relax. The housekeeping is particularly praiseworthy – everything is kept spotless and leaves no room for complaints. Unfortunately, there are also numerous points that, in my opinion, do not live up to a 5-star experience: • Beverage selection: For six days now, it has been a constant guessing game as to which drinks will be available at the bars. Whether it’s rosé wine, sparkling wine, or sparkling water – something is always unavailable. This is frustrating and far below the standard you’d expect at this price point. • Room features: The rooms are partially worn down, with broken light switches that are installed in a completely illogical arrangement. Additionally, there are no power outlets by the bed, only USB-A ports, which are outdated. Anyone with USB-C devices has to charge them at the other end of the room – highly inconvenient. • Luxury toiletries: Despite the advertised “luxury toiletries,” there is no conditioner. Shower gel and soap are also only replenished sporadically, which is slowly becoming problematic. • Service: Service is often a gamble. Whether at the lobby bar or the beach, you have to be lucky to get served. This falls far short of the expectations one has for a 5-star resort. • Food: The food is mediocre at best. The buffet restaurant offers the best selection, but overall, the quality and variety are lacking. • Royal hotel upgrade: The extra cost for the Royal area is not worth it at all since half of the offerings take place in the other part of the resort, where you’ll have to deal with children and noise. • Beach towels: Getting beach towels is extremely difficult. Although the towel service is officially open until 6:00 PM, for five days in a row, no staff member was present, or we were told to “try again tomorrow.” In summary: The hotel is “good,” but no more than 3.5 to 4 stars. The price-performance ratio is absolutely off. I can only recommend booking the Hilton La Romana for a similar or even lower price – that was a genuine 5-star resort last year with absolutely no issues. We still have another 10 days here and will enjoy the beautiful beach. However, I doubt my opinion of the hotel will change. Unfortunately, the Catalonia Group failed to convince us – especially given the high price. What a shame! But we’ll make the best of our stay. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Great holiday
We were looking for a relaxing two week break in a nice hotel with a great beach, and that's exactly what we got. Room - we had a large room on the second floor with a balcony that overlooked the quiet pool. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there was a mini bar that was stocked daily with soft drinks and beer. The room was kept spotlessly clean by the maids. Food and drink - There is a nice selection of restaurants that are booked via an app that you can access via QR code in reception. You can book two or three days in advance. We really enjoyed the choice of restaurants and found the food to be pretty good for this class of holiday hotel, our favourite was the Peruvian. You can also use the restaurants in the family side of the hotel, you can book these at reception. There are bars dotted around the resort and on the beach, the drinks are fine with some interesting cocktails. Beach and pools - The beach is a very nice strip of white sand leading to the crystal clear sea with a sandy bottom, it is fairly shallow and there is an artificial reef running parallel so you can snorkel and see some colourful fish and coral .There is an adult only section, and just like everywhere else, you need to be up early to get the best beds. To the left of the beach, you can walk for miles along the national park beach, you'll need to wear rock shoes as it gets a bit rocky, there are places where you can take a cooling dip. To the right you can walk past the other hotels for about half a mile. The pools are also very nice, there's the main pool with a swim up bar, and also a quiet pool. Trips - We did the Saona Island on speedboat and catamaran for a second time which is well worth doing because the boat leaves from Bayahibe so there isn't the two hour transfer either end that there is from Punta Cana. Service - we found all members of staff to be really friendly and helpful which really made for a very pleasant stay. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the cleaning staff do a great job. In summary, we really enjoyed our holiday at this hotel. We usually stay on the Punta Cana side of the island, so it was nice to see the differences. The hotel is located very close to the national park, the sea and beaches are stunning. We recommend this hotel for an adults only relaxing holiday. We will return.

Spectacular!
My stay at the Catalonia Royal La Romana adults-only hotel was spectacular and exceeded all expectations. The private pool in my room was luxurious, and the drinks were consistently great. As a vegetarian, I was especially impressed with the excellent food, particularly the large variety of breakfast options. The beach and hotel grounds were stunning—clean, beautiful, and well-maintained. The staff were warm and friendly and made my experience unforgettable. However, I encountered frequent language barriers with staff and room service, and there were often delays with room service. Despite these minor issues, I would return and highly recommend a visit!
