    A bit disappointing

I stayed here January 26 to February 2 with friends. The rooms are tired. The wait staff are clearly unhappy with their jobs. Happiest fellows were the gardening staff. We upgraded our stay. Fridge was empty except for a half empty bottle of water. Two days we had to call for towels as the maid took old ones and didn’t replace. Seems like first world problems but it was a lot of small things that added up through the week. Buffet was not great except for breakfast omelette. Coffee always cold. Restaurants were good. The two pools were three and a half feet deep. Adult pool was ok. Nothing spectacular here. Won’t be returning. And yes we paid enough to go here- compared to other places we have been in the same price range that were much better.

    Clean resort, beautiful beach

Resort very clean. Old, but clean. Most staff friendly. Buffett was good, always found enough to eat, never hungry. A la cart was good. Jerk hut and snack hut ran out of plates a few times, so you had to wait, Bar by pool ran out of ice often, and bartender had to stop to was glasses. Bring your own reusable cup/yeti/. Beach is beautiful and shallow . Close to rooms/buildings Check in is slow. 3rd time at this resort, it is not as good as 8yrs ago when we were last there. I would not pay a lot to go here, but it is ok if you are getting it around $1500-1600 a person

    Samantha is a gem!

The resort was nice but there's a lot of mold present everywhere. However, on a good note, BLoved is an excellent dining venue/choice for anytime of the day, especially if you're lucky enough to have Samantha as your server. She will exceed your expectations! She definitely exceeded mine and was one of the main reasons why this quickly became a favorite/ frequent dining option during our 2 week stay ♥️!

    Another Fabulous Jamaica Vacation

Just returned from a weeks vacation. I have been to this resort many times as the HI but first time since Catalonia and I still love it!! For the price you pay you will not find anything better in Jamaica. For the people saying they can stay at the Riu for the same price and it’s way nicer I’d like to see that cause I have never seen any of the Riu’s in Jamaica listed in this price range and yes I travel ALOT too. The grounds are immaculate they are constantly working on the gardens or painting and all the common areas are super clean. Yes there are a few cats but not once did they bother us. Yes they would once in awhile walk through the buffet sitting area but again they didn’t jump on tables or bother the people they just sauntered through or laid in the corner. Can there be some trash around the premises? Yes but only because the guests don’t clean up after themselves! Take your glass back to the bar when you get another drink. Or there are plastic cabinets everywhere for your dishes to be placed in when done but people are to lazy and feel to entitled to walk it over to one of these bins so leave their dishes laying on the beach or by the pool. If the guests would just take some initiative to clean up after themselves the place would be spotless. Yes some of the rooms are a bit dated but again I’m not paying a 5* price so my room is exactly what I expected and what I paid for. My shower was perfect never had a problem with the water no matter time of day. The bed and pillows were more comfortable than being at home! I am a very picky eater and never went hungry, there was always something for me to eat at the buffet. The pool grill is awesome as well as the ice cream hut for an afternoon ice cream everyday. We never tried any of the other restaurants as we honestly love the buffet. If you are looking for a party resort this isn’t the place for you it gets pretty quiet after the entertainment is done. Never had a problem with towels or beach chairs. Lifeguards had umbrellas up at the pool everyday by 9. Beach is nice but very shallow so not good if you like to swim but great if you like to just sit in the water. I never used the adult pool area so I can’t comment on that but I know in previous years my fellow travellers loved it. If you come here and respect the employees they will respect you in return. People need to go with an open mind and positive attitude and you will have a wonderful vacation I can almost guarantee to you that. Will I be back absolutely. I’m just praying with the new Ownership they don’t make to many changes and it becomes out of my price range!

    Catalonia January 2025 visit

This was our 6th visit to the resort since November 2017. My wife and I love the resort and will return. The change in ownership has many returning feeling in a place of limbo. The resort itself still has the look of the old Holiday Inn. There have been name changes and some other terminology changes. The adults only pool, building and beach are now for those who booked Privileged. To me that term promotes division. Adults only was clear enough. The water sports business that was there is no longer there. And there is currently no replacement. So you need to leave to resort if you want to do anything besides sailing, kayaking or paddle boat. The longe that was in the adults only building is closed now and from what I gather is used for the room service. But at the time of booking it was listed as an amenity of booking privileged and it was not available during our stay. I did notice less fruit options on the Buffett but I did hear that the amount of rain in Jamaica affected the harvest of some fruits. In all I had. No complaints about the food. I always come home heavier than when I left. The number one reason we return to the resort is by far the staff. Catalonia made the absolute right decision to stay open while they made their changes to the resort. Doing so kept the staff employed. And many staff over the years we have become friends with and stay in contact with and always look forward to seeing again.
