Just don't come or go with low expectations
This trip was beyond disappointing. This is my 4th time to the DR, I have travelled here last June and stated at the Sunscape cove same class of resort and I also previously stayed at 5* Dreams Maco beach the year before so I will base my review on this.... I have been to Mexico and Jamaica multiple times as well. This is my honest review: This is not a 4* resort it's at 3* at best. Upon check in we were given an undesirable room in a building that has no water under construction it's even zoned off you can barely access it (building 25). Our tv didn't work our mini fridge didn't work we had a flood in our room and we got 1 bed even after requesting 2, we are mother 60yrs and daughter 39 yrs old travelling. We begged to be moved even offered to pay to upgrade or go to royal side and we were promised this and that but nothing was done till 4pm the next day. We were promised a privilege room and did not get one, instead we got a room with 2 beds in the same construction zone building with the same issues, dispite being promised something else by staff.... This one the tv worked but nothing else. The room itself was out dated bad, sheets were dirty shower was a hole in the wall can't even shave your legs. Also was my broken mini fridge re stocked all week Plain awful... The service was sub par no one cares to service you not even when tipping no one barely smiles.... makes for an awful week. We tipped over 120$ USD for the week in the hopes to get better service and that didn't not help. The food here is awful, the buffet never has plates you have to wait hours to sit, birds are in the food eating and on ppls plates. I ate stir fry for lunch and dinner all week. There was no bacon all week, pancakes were awful lacked variety and again couldn't get a glass of water when I sat to eat as no staff bothered. The glassware was always dirty as well. The a la carte restaurants 2 we walked out of..... The rodeo was somewhat ok and the hibachi... the tapas was awful I ordered a chicken and not sure what I got was mushy and grosse and looked like a hash brown??? The beach was very weedy didn't make for a pleasant swim. The pool was nice but again a lot of inappropriate butt grabbing from the male staff to male guests during the pool party making it comfortable in general. I'm open and non judgemental but this is a family friendly pool so kinda inappropriate in my opinion. THERES NEVER ANY BEACH TOWELS AVAILABLE!!!! Every single day!!! The guy at the beach towel huts hates ppl and is miserable... TIP: Take your beach towel to your room at night and dry it or you will regret it... The entertainment is brutal at night as well. They don't even take the speaker covers off at the stage so you can barely hear the show. If I had to come back I'd go to sunscape cove a few resorts down same class better rooms food and entertainment..... and same price point. Every Canadian we met all said the same : dissatisfied and not worth what we paid, would not return. I want to point out we expected a lower class resort and did our research excessively before booking here, but lower class doesn't mean dirty no service and un friendly staff.

Let down
I was really disappointed with my stay at this hotel. There was constant construction going on throughout my trip, which made it hard to relax with all the noise and disruption. I wish the hotel had mentioned this beforehand. The beach was another letdown – the sea was full of seaweed, making swimming and enjoying the water unpleasant. On top of that, the food was very disappointing with limited variety and poor quality. Overall, this trip didn’t meet my expectations, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel until improvements are made.

Stay away
Do not come to this resort. Front desk doesn’t acknowledge you . Waited 10 minutes at the desk the employees talked amongst themselves and didn’t even to say hello. Waited a few more minutes asked to speak with the manager. Finally got a response and was told to another line. Beach is nice however lots of sea grass and coral in the water. Restaurant are not worth booking. Slow service in the restaurants. Not enough staff working the bars. Waited hours for help with issues in our room. Stay away from Catalonia resorts not worth the money.

Our experience
We found this resort to be of a very good standard. Our room which was in a privileged block was spacious, clean and contained all the advertised extras, ie towels, slippers, robes etc. No complaints there save for it being a twin room. We were offered a room change but decided against the hassle of changing and squeezed into a double bed, so no issue. The food was good enough...plenty of variety in the buffet - omelette lady deserves a mention for her happy service. Restaurants were good although we found the Japanese one confusing and gave up waiting to get seated and went to buffet instead. We saw another couple there who likewise had given up on that seating and went to buffet so maybe it was that particular evening. The beach is lovely and we spent most days there. We didn't get hassled by locals selling goods, they offered and if we weren't interested they didn't exert pressure. The pool looked very nice but the collected scum at the side put us off going in. A good clean is needed. We had a few issues on arriving with the hotel being overbooked. A manager Kelly "managed" these in a pleasant courteous way leaving us feeling very positive. My advice to people who may experience problems is to raise them via email while on site and hopefully you will have them dealt with as swiftly as us. I would highly recommend this resort.

Poor service and less than adequate food and drinks
I would not recommend this resort to anyone who expects 4 star service and quality food. We recently stayed for a week in a junior suite room. The resort and pool area were nice, rooms were fairly clean, and bed was comfortable but no hot water in our room for showers and our towels and water bottles were not replaced. Although some of the staff were happy and friendly, most were not and did not seem happy. Many did not understand basic English. Food in buffet was not good, often cold and not replaced. Recommend eating in the restaurants as much as possible.
