Brisbane Marriott
My husband and I were first-timers staying over in Brisbane. We enjoyed the hospitality in the hotel’s Executive Lounge. Despite the coffee machine was out of order, staff made sure all orders were met speedily. Special mention must be made to Elizabeth and Bianca in that Lounge as they were very helpful and informative. Kudos to them!

Lovely location with friendly staff and comfortable, clean rooms.
Located near the River, some rooms have beautiful views of the water and bridge. I had a partial view of the water on one stay. An added bonus to enjoy however most of us aren’t in our rooms too much. I’ve stayed here twice this month. Both times, I have found that all of the pleasant staff I have encountered are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The hotel is clean and has an overall air of comfortable, casual elegance. So I’m trying to convey that the feel is not at all uptight, stuffy elegant, not starkly contemporary, not overly casual and still, perfectly traditional comfort. Signature Marriott scent wafts delicate to the nose in the lobby. The two different rooms I stayed in were larger than most in cities like London or Tokyo (notably not difficult to accomplish this) and yet not overly so as to feel odd. Spacious enough to “feel at home” and relax while not glaring awareness of being in a hotel room. I absolutely love the bathroom separate shower stall and full stand alone bathtub! I am able to draw a soothing bath and soak after a long day and also shower separately to start my day fresh. For those of us who apply makeup, the vanity lighting could stand to be increased. Ugh this is my only dislike about the rooms. The bathroom lighting is less than ideal for appropriate makeup application. I counter this challenge by bringing my own lighted compact to help compensate for the lack of additional light at the bathroom mirror. There was a standard size, mounted, pull out magnification mirror in both of my bathrooms, which is helpful to a small degree. Note: also not lighted. Everything appeared clean and I felt comfortable using the room and bathroom. The beds were soft, yet firm. I had abundant pillows on the King size beds in order to nest and sleep soundly. It was extremely hot outside (98° F) during both of my stays and I am thrilled to inform you that my rooms were perfectly comfortable and sufficiently cool. Some hotels, in certain locations, (ie. Renaissance Hong Kong Harbourview) lock the room thermostat at a particular temp and guests are not able to cool the room below that set number. Thankfully this is not how Brisbane Marriott Hotel treats their guests. After being in the oppressive heat outside, it is a saving reprieve to return to a comfortably cool room here. Both of my one night stays were brief and work related so I can not attest to other facilities on the property at this time. Think gym, pool, restaurants etc. A quick note about the telephone in the room: the handset is cordless and charges when correctly aligned on the cradle. On my first stay unbeknownst to me, the handset was not properly charged and thus died suddenly in mid conversation with a colleague. I highly recommend checking to ensure the handset in your room is adequately charged in order to avoid a potential phone mishap, such as mine. My stays were perfectly fine and as previously mentioned above, all employees I interacted with were the epitome of gracious, kind, friendly and welcoming. I indeed look forward to a return stay at the Brisbane Marriott Hotel.

Fat Pillows.
Nice hotel. The pillows are too fat! Although a trivial rant, they are too big and make it difficult to sleep. Of the four pillows on the bed, perhaps a couple could be thinner? Even with only one, you feel Iike you’re propped up in a hospital bed, about to be wheeled off for gender reassignment surgery, as is all the rage.

Shoes stolen from the room
Left my pair of walking shoes with socks on the floor in a plastic bag near the table. Found them missing when I returned to the room. Called the housekeeping. Response was we have checked our security footage and no one has taken your shoes. Not sure how that is even possible. No cameras inside the room . I lodged a complaint to the manager. Response I got was we will give you Marriott points. Not satisfied and feeling unsafe and insecure next time I check into a hotel.

Dated hotel, uncomfortable beds and pillows. Lethargic service levels
Hotel is well located- close to river. Rooms are decent size and bathroom has a separate shower and bath. Found the bed way too soft. We both felt each other move as the mattress sags. Clearly old equipment. The hotel does not have any boards to place under mattress to try to create some firmness or stability. On a 3 day stay, had to follow up 3 separate times on this issue. When they cannot do anything they go silent and do not reply or leave any note. You need to follow up to be told that all mattresses are that soft. This is a problem with Marriott, there seems to be little consistency between their hotels both with service standards (Brisbane Marriott fails here) and with the quality of beds. Reception also usually only has 2 people supporting with a wait to speak to anyone. The hotel has a decent gym and pool area. The lounge for Bonvoy members is fine, very basic breakfast and coffee that is mediocre. Having spent 94 nights this year in Marriott hotels - this is the first where the service and bed are bad enough to warrant such a negative review. I wish I had known in advance to try somewhere else.
