This was my first trip to an all-inclusive. The grounds were lovely and well maintained. The resort was built in the 1990's and the rooms could be a bit nicer. The beds and pillows were comfortable but the room could have been cleaner. The white sheer curtains were very dirty and phone cradle was caked with debris. The white comforter was worn with holes in it. The service over-all was dismal. We ate at the buffet where there was no one filling water glasses or taking away dishes in a timely manner. The food at the buffett was very average. The fresh fruit was great, but do not get the beef. The wine came from a keg and was terrible. It is freqented by mainly Costa Ricans with their children. The entertainment is in Spanish. The beach is a dark brown muddy sand but very uncrowded. The water was very warm and calm.

This is a poor excuse for a hotel. They let day visitors in who take up all the pool space. Dirty eating areas and did not get our rooms cleaned at al. Could not get washcloths and unable to get any service from the front desk staff. Hardly any understood English and very poor food service. Meals were the same food every day and sometimes looked disgusting. No seasoning and tough beef and pork that were uneatable. The liquor was watered down and the wine was terrible. I would not recommend this resort to a dog. The pool was dirty and you could not get water at the table, had to get your own napkins and silverware because no one was setting tables. Barceló should change its name to the Worst Hotel in the World.

This was a good property for families, not so much for adults who want to get away from small kids. The best part about this property is the access to the beach and the excursions.

This Barcelo is definitely not up to Barcelo standards. I give this property a true rating of 3 at best. I stay half the year in hotels and motels for work, I can honestly say that I have stayed at 2 star motels that were better kept and cleaner than this Barcelo Tambor.

Theft
The resort itself was fabulous. Nice pools and beautiful beach. Good food. The problem is security. My nephews had their electronics stolen out of their backpacks from their locked room while we were at dinner. My suitcase had also been opened in my locked room, as I had made sure to close it, and it was opened upon returning. It seemed like a scam they run. It happened on a Friday night, knowing the police do not work weekends and wouldn’t come until Monday. We’d be gone by then. The hotel also said the video cameras showed nothing suspicious. We all know someone entered the rooms. Put everything of value in the safe and don’t let the staff clean your rooms while you are there.
