    Never staying here again

False advertising on the premium level perks. Staff even acknowledges that the website is wrong, but they don't honor what your own reservation states that you have. Premium lounge is a joke. Lied to me about unauthorized charges, blocked my room key twice just to get me to the lobby to speak to them about a situation I told them that all of us were waiting for the manager to come on Monday to resolve (She did resolve it). the reviews on service, clean, value, ect are all based on a premium level room. If you are still going t stay here, DONT WASTE your money on the premium level. They will tell you when you get there that basically you just have the lounge for perk and its a 40% increase in the total cost of your stay. Not worth it for what you get in there. BTW, the room is bigger than the lounge.

    Hotel Barcelo San Jose

Very nice hotel. We enjoyed our stay there. Would stay there again if we go back to San Jose. The hotel is beautiful and the gardens and pool area are very nice. There is a restaurant by the pool area and although we didn't eat there, we did ear at one to the other two restaurants at the hotel and food was very good.

Barceló San José: A Hotel that Lost its Exclusivity"

The Barceló San Jose hotel dropped the stars. I made the bad decision to come spend 2 days of Easter with family away from the tumult and average penthouse that usually crowds the hotels. Then I chose a more “exclusive” hotel to meet the typical chats that arrive with their giant icebox and vulgar music that never lacks. Since visiting the hotel I have known that you can not bring food or drinks from outside to the pool, the staff came to make theater because they did absolutely nothing and allowed them to consume what they carried, but the others had to pay there. It is also not allowed to take food from the Premium level. The uneducated men took food and drinks out in front of the waitresses' eyes and told them nothing. The Premium level wasn’t enough; if you were lucky there was ham and cheese, breads and vegetables, water and quinada water. On several occasions people would go to eat and it was all empty and returned — people who paid for an “exclusive” level. Why do they make more reservations than they can handle? Why are we charged for an exclusive level with food if they cannot even be consumed? I think if the hotel has rules and expects customers to follow them, they should start by following them themselves. Lesson learned for me and my family: never come back on Easter or holidays. Less recommend it again. Lesson to learn from the hotel: take care of the quality (in every sense) so that it does not soon become a 2-star hotel.

    Dismal service and product standards

Check in by Lucia was great as she is nice and efficient. The bellman and all the lobby security guards were not happy or nice. Our room was spacious and the bed and linen were comfortable. The coffee maker was very dirty. The bathroom had mildew and mold, caulking was bad, towels were old and tattered, toiletries were dismal. When you take a shower, the floor gets flooded as shower door is defective. Room WiFi is very weak. The lush gardens were beautiful but the pool was very cold. We had lunch at Anfora and the food was dismal especially the fried plantains that were as hard as a rock. Server Javier rudely lectured us that it is Caribbean style. We ate at several Sodas or local restaurants and the food and service were great. Our transfer in was poorly managed by Charlie and he rudely told us to wait 2 hours at the airport. I also engaged Juan, Erick and Kevin and they all said to wait 2 hours. A very nice taxi driver Pablo helped us get to the hotel. I asked for the General Manager and they said he went home already and cannot be contacted. Our transfer out was at 4am and the sleepy driver was reckless and rude. The night clerk and bellman were also rude. The hotel is nice but the service is dismal. Employees look very unhappy, disengaged and not guest focused. This reflects poorly on the hotel leadership especially the General Manager.

    Excellent as always

In the years that I have been a customer Barceló, this chain never disappoints me, there are things to improve like wi-fi that is bad in speed I do not recommend if you will work with it, but otherwise no complaints. I've been given very beautiful surprises.
