Take a a pass, Tired and need of update and repairs.

This was our 6th visit to this resort in the past 14 years. Our last trip was just prior to the COVID shut down. We really love this resort for several reasons. A) the Loaction and size of the resort, B) the fact it is more remote but with easy access to the hustle and bustle of PV, C) the freindliness of the staff in the past as many had severed there for many years, D) the fact that the resort occupies most of Mismaloya Bay, E) the size of the rooms and the pools. Sadly our experience this trip was not what we had come to expect from the resort. Currently there appears to be a viral outbreak at the resort and just perhaps the management has not taken this as seriously as maybe they should have. 3/5 of our party were sick. I lost about 7 days of my 11 day vacation not feeling well enough to do anything but sleep in the room, or lay in the shade for a couple of hours out of the day. Most nights I was back in bed by 7:30ish. Sadly these things happen but someone needs to take a closer look at how to get it under control. My sympathies are for the resort workers who had to clean the rooms and all the servers who quite obviously were having their tips impacted. The cleaning staff do not seem to have PPE and are using bare hands to clean ‘messy’ bathrooms; then they move about their duties in each room. I was saddened to learn the glasses in the rooms are not taken and sanitized after use. The maid cleans them in the bathroom sink. YIKES< ( red flag for me. I don't feel this is acceptable practice and or sanitary. I went and found paper coffee cups to use in our room when I discovered this. The pools were empty on most days. You never had to worry about getting a lounger. Drs are a the resort 24/7. First time I have ever seen that at any resort we have been to. My most major disappointments are however in the state of the rooms themselves. About 14 years ago, the Barcelo chain renovated the resort and updated all the rooms. They were lovely and comfortable but after 14 years of heavy use, they are in a sad state of affairs. The furniture is old and dated and breaking down. The couches are not comfy and some of the cushions to support your back seem to no longer be available. Prior to COVID they were looking tired and in need of replacing. This is even now more so the case. The rooms were not very clean. If you looked in the corners there was dirt, the fans were dust laden, and the exhaust system vents were filthy and black. The lamps were broken and the metal was rusting on the shades. Some lamps did not work at all. The windows needed cleaning and the screens were difficult to maneuvers. Our patio door barely locked. The resort obviously used the money earned from the filming of the Acapulco series to renovate the exterior areas, which are looking very nice, but the rooms have been neglected. At least our three rooms had not been updated. It is quite obviously high time to replace the equipment in their buffet and dining room as well. The heat lamps have been repainted so many times the paint is peeling and you can see the layers of paint. How having a heat lamp (which is not hot when you hold your hands under it) peeling and hanging over prepped food as acceptable practice under any OHS standards is beyond me. We heard that a lot of old staff left the resort when they were offered higher wages at a Hilton location just up the road. Maybe it is time for the Barcelo corporation to get their heads out of the sand, deal with the current viral outbreak appropriately and start to get the resort cleaned up and updated. At least they finally saw the light and wifi is now free. Sadly we will likely not return to the Barcelo PV until we read better reviews and hear that improvements have been made. We are sad to say adios to our friends at the Barcelo, the few who are still there and did not jump ship.

    Great resort!

We've stayed at many all inclusive resorts over the years. This is one of the best. The staff are so friendly, the food is pretty good! Before we arrived we read some negative reviews...I can honestly say our experience has been very different. This place is so clean, everyone is smiling, lots of precautions to avoid spread of illness. And let's be honest...we're all at the mercy of any guest that doesn't wash their hands. That is why people get sick from buffets! Anyways, I wish I hadn't read the negatives, we're a group of 13 and everything's been great. Steak house last night was fantastic!! Premium upgrade is worth it for room location alone. Pic attached is from our balcony :)

    Barcelo Puerto Vallarta first timers

Great facility with some of the staff exceptional. Some were not great and this could be our fault as we did not know the language as much as we would have liked. Food is ok but we found more local variety of the cuisine by exploring beyond the property. Must do excursion is the las caletas adventure park, grab some snorkeling gear and find the small beach with a bartender and hammocks! Unforgettable snorkeling experience, color fish and we saw an octopus!!

    Just read before you book

Stayed at Barcelo mid to late December with a group of 12, 8 of our group got sick 5 of those 8 being kids, no question with Norovirus … the Doctor on site said to it is an Air born Virus. 4th night into our stay we lost water and toilets for 5 hours .. as you can imagine with a gastro sickness having no toilets for that amount of time was not good … Rooms are nice big and nice no question Beach is nice Food is sub par as you can see in most of the reviews on this site There is a problem here no question.. even the people on the beach trying to sell you stuff say the same thing Barcelo has a sickness and has been going on for about a month. We have stayed at Barcelo in Cancun, and this is not it, we booked with the exception this would be to that quality and it is not even close.. Barcelo needs to look into what is going here and deal with it! Just heads up this review will get the same response from Guest Service: We would like to take the opportunity to point out that our hotel, like all hotels of our chain, undergoes regular independent audits sent both by the company and the tour operators we collaborate with to ensure our strict food safety management procedures, imposed on a global level by the company, are being followed and thoroughly respected at all times as under no circumstances would we put our guests’ health at risk by serving food in bad conditions, your safety being of course our main concern. Rest assured that we are currently working to find out the cause of this mishap. This is not what you expect with a Barcelo property …
