If it was not our favorite resort complex we would not stay there. The beach area has always been a great draw plus all the service persons we have known and many are still with the resort.

Best resort in Riviera Maya
We’ve been to several different resorts in Barcelo Maya and loved every one of them. I traveled with my children (9,8,5) this time and we stayed at Caribe. The resort was clean and the staff is friendly and helpful as always. The food is excellent and the drinks are good. The snorkeling is top notch. The Caribe beach has a lot of sea life including sting rays and the resort next door has sea turtles my kids enjoyed swimming with. My kids enjoyed the shows every evening after dinner and were never bored. 83 degrees everyday and the ocean was 82. Lookin forward to returning for a 6th time.

Overall, totally fine. There is a mix of things to do and I can see why this is a great resort for families. The lack of chairs at the beach and pool is a complete issue. We had to wake up before 7 am to secure seating and often had to drag our chair from the beach to the pool. There needs to be a major increase in chairs. The service was below average. Although pleasant and hardworking, we were often not addressed at the buffet or offered anything. Service at the pool bars was fine. By far the most disturbing aspect is the onsite dolphin enclosure. The animals were literally in a tiny pool and it’s really disgusting they torture these poor animals. Absolutely shameful.

Very enjoyable stay. Pay for the Premium service and use the Spa at Caribe. Take advantage of all of the resorts for food (Palace has great food) and try all of the pools! Beach by the Beach resort and the Adults only resort is ideal.

Mar 07, 2025Disappointing, to say the least.
This resort was a disappointment. The food was horrible. The items on the buffet that were supposed to be hot weren’t heated at all. The pans they were in were cold and the heating elements on the buffet tables were not turned on. One of our people got terribly sick with a stomach bug. I literally ate chia seed/granola for breakfast. Grilled Hamburger for lunch, and Grilled chicken for for dinner every day. That was it for the week. The buffets were THAT bad. We were assigned dates for the restaurants when we arrived. Every meal was late, every hotel had a salad bar for appetizers, every salad bar was picked over and disgusting by the time of our reservation. They were not maintaining the salad bar. I was traveling with a friend and they put us in a room with a king bed and refused to accommodate us with a room with two doubles until we complained to the general manager. Room service got every request wrong. And they never cleaned the patio area. Spilled milk and crumbs from breakfast were there the entire week. It is a large resort. Probably a mile from one end to the other. The entertainment was not well communicated and made finding the activities around the pool and at the theaters cumbersome. They didn’t clearly communicate even amongst themselves. We got different answers at different resorts for the same basic questions. The best thing was the spa. The water area is very nice and the massage therapists were excellent. We will plan to go somewhere else next year
