Sunshine on repeat!
Just returned from a week at the Barcelo and had a fabulous time. Our check-in was speedy and all staff we encountered were friendly and exceptionally helpful when looking to try local cuisine or excursions. Our room was large, clean, and well stocked daily; same goes for the resort in general. The food was plentiful but repetitive; nothing special. My only complaint is the towel/chair wars - Not enough loungers at the beach and barely any palapas! People went down at 4 a.m. to secure a beach chair! The pool wasn't much better, we had to get up everyday at 6 a.m. to secure a spot and most wouldn't show up till 9ish. The resort should really monitor this! Overall the resort was a great time, the area is beautiful and visiting local restaurants and shops close to the resort or in town was safe. We definitely will be back.

Been to numerous All Inclusive resorts throughout Mexico. Buffet selection was a 3 outta 5 at best. Italian A-La Carte was great. A La Carte Mexican was trying to be too fancy would have loved just really fresh enchildas, etc. Room issue on Check In. Booked a King and was given 2 doubles. I am a big dude and would never book a double in my life. Hotel stated that it was a smaller family hotel and that they did not have that many. Prob something that Westjet vacations needs to work out with the Hotel for their advertising. The Hotel is Clean and Really good location. The area was on yellow flag most of the time for the beach and other times red due to the undertow but was swimable. Not great in this bay for Snorkeling. We were here for 9 Nights. Reccomend the 7 Bay Catamaran Tour and Going to the Waterfalls is a must just dont wear your Apple watch when jumping into the pools.

You get what you pay for.
Rooms were nice and clean. Food at La Fontana and Agave was really good, the rest of the restaurants were average food. The beach was nice, however, there are not enough chairs and no drinks are served at the beach. The pool was small and too close to the kids area. Not enough waiters to offer drinks around the pool area. We had the issues below, they were reported and nothing was done about it. 1. We were a group of 3 couples. None of us were able to get a king size room. 2. We had premium level and it was hard to do late check out. We had to insist. 3. A dead fly landed on our table at the Italian restaurant. The staff was nice and apologized. They asked for our room number a couple of times. We didn't receive any type of compensation or anything. 4. We made reservations for a group of 6 at the Japanese restaurant. They assigned two separate tables. We basically had to beg the waiter to put the tables together. He did it but was rude about it.

Generally very good, with some annoying exceptions
First the good points: The location is great - a lovely bay and close to the beach and, being not too large a hotel, easy access to everything Staff generally very friendly and helpful. The exception being, strangely, the reception staff! Nice rooms and amenities, excellent housekeeping by Irma, our maid Nearly always a good selection of food in the buffet restaurants with helpful and always friendly servers, and nice atmosphere and service in the speciality restaurants Excellent and varied shows, especially the dancers (a special shout out to Daniela whose moves are always captivating)! Some areas for improvement: It is almost impossible to get a lounger in the shade unless you cheat by going out well before 7 and putting towels to "reserve" them - explicitly not allowed, but never policed. And just try to get a lounger on the beach under a palapa ... SMOKING! It is against the law to smoke in public places in Mexico. However, there are ashtrays everywhere and people smoking even on loungers. The crazy thing is that the two main designated smoking spots are directly outside the main bar and reception area and the prevailing winds blow that smoke into the area. As a couple allergic to such smoke, it made using the bar and sitting area very unpleasant at times. Re smoking away from "ashtray" areas - if alerted, the security staff always followed up - but never on their own initiative! While the rooms were always cleaned, the corridors in our wing towards the beach were always dirty with sand and debris The poolside bar seemed unable to make good margaritas or mojitos - plenty to drink, but not at all well done. The main bar was much better There was a surprising lack of Oaxacan food in the buffets - only one night with mole and 2 with tyaludas And, perhaps inevitable with a general family resort - constant noise from games in the resort. Really nowhere quiet at all by the beach - the right hand side away from the pool is bombarded by game noise from the resort next door (not the responsibility of Barcelo I know)
