Used to be better.
We have been to Bahía Luxury Akumal 5 previous times. We really like this resort as it is the only one we have repeated in 15 trips to Mexico. However we have found the “rules” to be very “flexible”. We went to two of the more formal restaurants, adults only and no shorts. At one there were kids in strollers and toddlers (4) and at least 4 men in shorts. At another, although there were 4 men in shorts, they refused a 17 year old in our group. This was after we told them we had a 17 year old and they still scheduled us in these restaurants. We sent an email to confirm that it was okay to have a 17 year old and received no response for a week and a follow-up. Still no follow-up. Would like to point out that I got the “watch tap” from the hostess at Maiko. We arrived 3 minutes after our reservation (shuttle took forever) and after 5 minutes of them saying we didn’t have a reservation, they found it and said we were now late. We have 11 people in 5 rooms and spent close to $17k. We have had issues with getting restaurant reservations and once we did get them and we tried to clarify, without success, they gave us a hard time. Might have to look for a new resort.

Good times.
It’s our last day here, and I wish we had a couple more—it’s tough to leave! We’ve stayed at several places in Mexico, and I can confidently say that Akumal is a great resort. While it might not fully reach a 5-star level, it’s a solid 4+. The food is good, and the staff are friendly, attentive, and eager to meet your needs. The beach is decent, though small, unless you’re okay venturing into the rocky and rougher areas. We never had trouble finding a chair by the pool (there are multiple) before 9-10 a.m., but keep in mind that guests from the sister resorts also use the beach. So, if you want a good spot, don’t wait too long! To ensure a memorable dining experience, it’s advisable to reserve your à la carte restaurant choices in advance. Two exceptional options are Tortuga, a Brazilian steakhouse, and Tequila, specializing in Mexican cuisine. During my visit, the head chef at Tequila personally informed me that he was preparing my meal with special attention to avoid cross-contamination due to my food allergies—a gesture that speaks volumes about their commitment to guest satisfaction.

Kids club review dec 2024
Bahia principe akumal kids club was amazing! My kids loved it. They said they wanted to do it everyday. The staff was so professional and attentive. My daughter unfortunately hurt her head (no fault of the kids club staff) and they were so attentive and kind to her needs and let us know ow what happe ed right away. They also constantly checked in to make sure nothing went wrong or got worse for her as the days went on. Josseline, Cuauhutemoc,Eduardo, Ingrid,Zyanya and Viridiana will always be close to our hearts. As they made the children feel like family!. Amazing experience. Would recommend 100%

Pros, Cons and Tips
Pros - The resort was clean and well maintained - Staff were friendly and professional - The buffet had a wide selection of foods. We also really enjoyed the al la carte restaurants we visited. - We enjoyed that we could explore the other resorts on the complex but everything we needed was at our resort - The coffee shop was a nice treat and had both hot and cold beverages. Cons - Our room (Junior Suite Superior) was smaller than others we have stayed it, but it was cleaned and met our needs - The main pool was often very busy but the Adults Only section of the resort was much more relaxing. Tips - Pre-book al la carte restaurants online 10 days before your vacation to ensure you get reservations - We did a private snorkelling tour with Marine Life Akumal MX which was a once in a lifetime experience. We saw turtles, rays, and countless varieties of fish. Darwin provided a professional and customized experience. My husband and I would happily visit this resort again.

Easily 4 Stars!
From the service to the cleanliness to the room, to the entertainment, all 4 stars in my opinion. Can't say enough about the staff, especially Olga in the main buffet! We would seek her out every time we ate there. They were constantly cleaning the grounds, and the adults only pool was full with partiers but never overcrowded or annoying.
