Paradise
Everything about this place was outstanding. It was very beautiful. We felt very safe. The staff was second to none. Everywhere we went was clean. The buffet had several varieties to choose from. Best resort I have ever been to! I can't wait to return to see the remodeled areas

tulum more luxury than akumal was like going to butlins
This is the third time at bahía príncipe twice at akumal and once at tulum and i can honestly say i don’t think i would go back yes i wish id just gone to tulum than pay more for akumal i understand there doing building works but as it was a family of 9 guests tui couldn’t give us an different hotel when we got to the rooms we had one room on each floor in block 64 the room was infested with bugs was fumegated 3 times there was huge gaps under door and skirting boards missing lights on balcony not working banister on steps to second floor was hanging off when it rained for the 1 day it did water was pouring through the bathroom light the rooms shouldn’t have been used staff are great but the rooms in the akumal have a lot to be desired the full hotel is started to show its age i’m no snob but not a luxury hotel no more used to be many years ago but for the money i would prefer the tulum

Excellent return trip to Bahia Principe Akumal
My husband and I stayed at Akumal for 10 days in December 2024. We had not been to Bahia Principe since 2016, so we were excited to return. I want to start by saying that the reservation process directly through Bahia Principe is excellent!! Due to health issues, I had to reschedule 4 times – each time the BP rep was helpful and courteous, and I had no problems making the changes. On arrival, we were assisted by Francisco Cubo in reception- he was exceptional!!! I cannot say enough good things about how he treated us. From the start of our vacation, during, and when we departed, he checked in on us to insure everything was perfect. Thank you Francisco!! Zuriel in reception was also very helpful with information about the resort and amenities. Ricardo in guest services was super nice and helpful – he helped with scheduling our romantic dinner. The alacarte dinners were superb! We loved that each one had a specialty drink and “chef appetizer”. All were very good, but our favorites were Katok, Doce Vita, Portofino, Frutos del Mar, and Mikado. Special shout out to Johvanni at Dolce Vida and Joseline at Frutos del Mar for their excellent service!! I highly recommend booking directly with BP so you can make your dinner reservations before you arrive. The buffet in Akumal section is excellent, with a large variety of food options. During our stay, we had BP staff check regularly on our experience while at the restaurants, pool and beach area. It was evident that they are actively checking on their customer service practices throughout the resort. As in most resorts, we did wake up early to secure a spot at the beach or pool area. It was the busy season, so spots did fill up quickly. We enjoyed swimming in the ocean- it’s very calm due to the breakers, but nice to enjoy a calm swim and see the fish. The pools are very nice but not heated, so very chilly in December. The bar service at the beach and pool was great – thanks to Luna at the pool and Adriana at the beach for always keeping the drinks flowing!! The bartenders always helped with choosing drinks, Jesus and Gabriel at the pool and beach bar and Raul in the lobby bar were all wonderful!! The entertainment staff were all great and lots of fun with the leadership of Cesar. The pool activities were always entertaining and I especially enjoyed the Zumba on the beach with Hannia. The evening entertainment was very good- something for everyone to enjoy. We paid extra for one of the night shows which was very nice in Tulum. The Hacienda is nice to visit, and on this trip we did not go to the Casino. In general, getting around the resort is easy with the transport carts coming around frequently – during peak times, patience is the key!

No luxury just Akumal
Came here two years ago and really rated it but it has gone down hill so badly. We have come as a family of 6 and was aware we needed to pre book the gourmet restaurants. But even doing this we could only all eat together on a few occasions. On our visit to the resort there is no flexibility to add another couple to our table even though there seems to be plenty of spaces. The infinity pool bar shuts at 5pm, which seems early, but they start shutting at 4.30, will only serve beer. There was a thunder storm which has set off alarms, I tried ringing the desk but they couldn't understand and just hung up. No sleep that night. The advantage of using akumal is that you are allowed to use the other resorts. All the other resorts seem to have better evening entertainment and the other Luxury resort, Sian Ka'an, lives upto the name. There is a seaweed issue here meaning you cannot use the beach to swim. On our last visit they cleared the seaweed early morning ready for customers to use. Now there is a truck and a digger running along the beach area from around 11 to 1pm. Not exactly relaxing. I would suggest if you are coming here use Tulum or Coba as its not worth paying extra for Akumal.
