  Overall good week with a few comments

  Travelled with my friend for 9 days to the El Portillo. We had requested a ground floor/close to main area room, due to mobility/physical requirements........Also 2 beds are we are not a couple. Upon arrival, our room was located in a building just in from the main road, so getting to the beach/lobby & main areas was a challenge to say the least. I had also emailed the hotel 3X before departure - no response.........I understand they cannot guarantee, and we did find out later, that the rooms in the closer buildings were standard/1 bed rooms - so that would not have worked. We did however get a ground floor which we appreciated. Beach is not as wide as Punta Cana but more beautiful - the views in either direction are lovely and you can walk in either direction for quite a bit. The washrooms/towel are all close to the beach.............water is crystal clear and all sandy bottom. I also loved the fact that we may have been the only hotel on the strip of beach, there were other buildings, maybe private homes etc, but it was nice to not walk passing hotel, after hotel............... Room - needed a bit of lipstick - little old but fine. Shower in bathroom - wicked slippery floor. I don't know why most resorts have tile or marble floors that are deadly slippery when wet - all around the main pool you took your life in your hands - honestly why?? Food - buffet by far the best one I've every experienced. The ala carte's on the other hand, with the exception of the Italian were sub-standard. The Greek - don't waste your time.......terrible. We couldn't get to visit the Fish restaurant. The very hard working staff - We had terrific support from Rosa and Victor Jose at the Front desk - very kind and helpful. Also - the bar tenders Rosanny and Ana (quite pool) very sweet and attentive. Our housekeeping lady Ramona did a great job!!! It rained almost every day mostly morning, but all in all great weather and good week.

  Deceiving experience !!!

  There was a situation on the beach on February 2 where a spanish woman went to see 2 employees from the hotel, Kiara is the name of the employee who spoke to me. The Spanish tourist was complaining that I had taken a vacant place on the beach and that this was her space !! I explained to all that the space was vacant for a while and in the shade and I moved my chair there. The husband of this lady even saw this and he didn't mention anything. The Spanish lady was lying in the sun in front of us. I was sleeping in my chair for at least one hour and there comes Kiara telling me lady ? lady ? lady ? I couldn't believe she was talking to me regarding I had taken the space of this lady !!! As a result I am very dissatisfied of the way I was treated and had to move and Kiara did not take my explanation into consideration. I will never again stay at Bahia Principe Hotels. I stayed many times in your hotels. I will also never refer your hotels to my Canadian family and friends. This is very unfortunate for you. I asked to meet with a manager after this incident via my email and did not receive a message !! Too bad for your reputation and for you lacking consideration of Canadian customers!!

  Won’t be coming back

  The resort is clean and well kept. The beach is beautiful the water is warm and clear and no seaweed. That was the good stuff. The rooms were out dated. The most uncomfortable beds ever. Bathroom in need of gutting and complete makeover of the rest of the room. The breakfast in the morning was just ok. I have never in my life been served koolaid or maybe it was tang they called orange juice for breakfast. Yuk. The al a carts were nothing special. The wine they serve was on the borderline of being balsamic vinegar. Especially the red wine straight from the refrigerator. How disgusting. Ask for champagne. It’s at least drinkable.

  Lovely resort in Samana DR

  This is a lovely resort. Very clean. Food good and plentiful. Drinks yummy. Specialty restaurants were great. The entertainment staff were fantastic. Always having fun games around the pool. The beach is very private and you can walk for miles along the beautiful sand. We stayed in building 26 which is nicely renovated. I did have a problem with the shower. Very low pressure and one time it stopped all together while I had shampoo in my hair. Came back within a minute but had to constantly adjust the temperature every day. I would highly recommend this resort to friends and family.

  Return visit to the Bahia Principe El Portillo, and they maintained the great quality.

  The El Portillo by Bahia Principe is an excellent resort for several reasons: - great staff especially the entertainment team. - a good variety of places to eat and get a drink - the jr. suite was large and very clean - I observed regular professional cleanliness checks at the pool bar, done it seems at random times. -the main pool was very clean. -the Portillo is the only resort on the beach so you can walk for kilometers along the sandy beach.
