Great time at Bahia Principe Aquamarine!

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!! We had a super vacation at the Bahia Principe Grand Aquamarine!!!! Check in was very quick. The clerk placed us next to the other couple that we went with in building 82. We wish we would have had a pool view, but didn't think to ask for that before we were given our room assignments. We were on the second floor and the behind the scenes stuff was going on behind us and got kind of loud sometimes. I would recommend getting the pool view room like we had last time. (This is our second time at this resort). Our room was super clean, our refrigerator was restocked every day and was very cold. We were very comfortable. The pool was very clean at all times. Juan was always around delivering "Dominican water" with a smile and a happy "very good to see you!" He was awesome! The buffet was very good, a great variety, with themes changed daily. We ate on the outside patio a few times. There are a lot of cats out there and they can get a little aggressive with each other over food if people feed them. Whoever makes their desserts does a wonderful job! I loved all the fresh fruit too. We only booked one specialty restaurant...the Maiko Japanese Tepanyak Restaurant. When we got there, we discovered that there are really two of them and we were at the wrong one. We had to walk all around the building to get to the other one. The food was really good and the cook (Raul) was very entertaining and fun. Our resort was perfect, but we explored the other resorts too and found all of them to be very clean. We shopped at the village shops, went into the casino and played blackjack a little bit. The beach was very busy, but the beach was very good. We spent more time at our pool. A couple of times, our towels and belongings were removed from the chairs about 9am while we were at breakfast. There are not enough pool chairs. The spa is wonderful. I loved the hydro spa too. My husband and I did a couples massage and we both loved it!!! The entertainment was great! We saw a circus show, a fire show, a retro show, and lots of wonderful live music! I highly recommend this resort. If you are wanting to relax, you can do that, but if you are wanting activities, you can always find something to do.

    Excellent restaurants, and service

Most beautiful beaches. Excellent service and excellent restaurants. Must try the lobster, so delicious. Monday night is all you can eat Lobster….There is an up charge for lobster but it’s worth it. Rooms need to be updated, but we didn’t spend much time in the room so it didn’t matter.

Two weeks at Bahia Principe Grand Aquamarine

Our room was fantastic, once we actually convinced Reception to give us the pool side we had paid for. At first she wanted us in Room 80 and then Room 85, finally after asking to speak to someone else, we were given Room 82206 which was perfect. Friendliness of staff at the buffet was hit and miss. Lots of supervisors but they don't actually do anything. We had to get our own teapots, cups, saucers constantly. Juan our bartender at the pool was six stars! Can't say enough good things about his attitude and friendliness! Our biggest complaint was the removal of towels and personal belongings once a day from the pool loungers. We watched in disbelief as people who were in the pool, or the bathroom, or at the bar or playing ping pong or joining in one of the activities had their things removed and taken to the towel hut. Certainly they can come up with a way to remove things after people are absent for 45 minutes or more, not while they are physically in the pool! Complaints to three managers fell on deaf ears regarding people with purple bracelets using loungers at the Grand Aquamarine. This, in light of the fact that pool staff are physically removing patrons towels and personal belongings because there aren't enough chairs, was madness. Bahia Principe, don't pit guests against each other. Purchase more chairs and umbrellas.

Ignore the BAD reviews this place is GREAT!!!

This is the third time we have stayed here, and once again, our visit was outstanding. The food was delicious, the entertainment was top-notch, and our room was excellent. It's important to ignore the negative reviews posted here; those individuals seem to complain just for the sake of it and may be trying to get a free upgrade. The à la carte restaurants, Tequila, M.E.A.T, and Maiko Japanese Restaurant, were amazing—make sure to visit them and sign up for the app to book ahead of time. However, I do need to address an issue we experienced at the pool bar. The bartenders were not attentive enough, and I couldn't understand what they were arguing about since I don't speak Spanish. Thankfully, the waiters around the pool, especially Juan, were fantastic. Overall, the service provided by Juan at our lounge chairs was exceptional! He was super engaging and friendly, and I would rate him an 11 out of 10. Aldolfo also delivered great service.

    Mixed feelings

I will not be returning to Bahia Principe mostly because most of the staff weren't welcoming and didn't understand English, none of the bars served any bourbon (my liquor of choice), the wifi was VERY spotty and unavailable at many locations and my check-in process was glitched and I could not make restaurant reservations in advance and by the time it was corrected there were no time slots available at the times the rest of my party had booked. More details below. Many of the employees were wonderful but most were not. There weren't enough smiles. The employees didn't seem happy and many seemed annoyed when I asked questions. There was a significant lack of employees who understood English which meant a ridiculous round of charades every time I needed to communicate something. Except for the servers at Tequila and Capriccio (who were wonderful), the staff at the other restaurants were not good at all. To improve, reinforce the need that employees be welcoming, friendly and smile and ensure that there is at least a few English understanding employees available at each establishment. I stayed at Aquamarine and could not get any bourbon at all. I'm not talking any premium bourbon, I'm talking any borbon. It was displayed prominently at EVERY bar but not available to Aquamarine guests. I tried to purchase a drink and was told I had to buy the entire bottle. I was NOT looking for premium alcohol but I was expecting there would be a bourbon available to me. To improve, they must offer at least 1 option of the most popular types of liquor at EVERY establishment. The lack of available wifi in many areas of the resort was unacceptable. I was not able to reliably communicate with my friends and family at the resort when I needed to coordinate. I was also not able to reliably communicate with my family back home as well. This was a very big problem for me. To improve, they need to ensure that wifi is available in ALL areas of the resort. I was not able to check in through the website or app until 2 or 3 days before my trip. There was a glitch. As such, my friends could not add me to their dinner reservations. By the time I could check in (only a few days before), all the available time slots near their dinner reservations were taken. While the restaurants accommodated us when I showed up with them, it wasn't without grumpy faces from most. I was already frustrated that I couldn't check in and now I felt even worse. Unless there is significant improvement, for these reasons I will not be returning to Bahia Principe again. (Of good note, the entertainment staff at the pool and events were wonderful!)
