If Tulum is on your list of places to go, but the thought of making the 2-hour drive from Cancun's airport sounds like a nightmare, you're in luck! You'll now have the option to fly into Felipe Carillo Puerto International Airport, located about 20 miles away from downtown Tulum.

Travelers will now be able to fly directly into Tulum through American Airlines, Delta, United Airlines, and eventually, Spirit and JetBlue.

The Advantages

With one single terminal, Tulum's airport is much smaller in size compared to the four terminals at Cancun International Airport. And if convenience isn't enough to sell you on this airport, then we guarantee its modern look with a Mayan twist and advanced technology will impress you!

The Disadvantages

But, as we all know, with any fresh start, there are bound to be a few bumps in the road. Parts of the airport are still under construction, including restaurants. The Wi-Fi and air conditioning in the terminal were not working the day the airport welcomed its first international flights.

Although these are minor struggles that can be fixed swiftly, they're enough of an issue to leave travelers questioning the quality of their experience. Additionally, the airport is about 40 minutes away from many of the top resorts in the area. So, although it's a shorter drive than Cancun, you'll still have a bit of a car ride to your resort, especially if you're staying in certain areas of the Riviera Maya region.

The Bottom Line

All in all, this airport has the potential to become an excellent choice for travelers who are visiting this region. So, if you're ready to escape to the Yucatan Peninsula, weigh out your travel options and then book your getaway with Apple Vacations!
